In this video I demonstrate ways in which I have bound keys to the test build of the AH-64D module in hopes it gives you an idea of what to expect. Note this is "A" way to do it and may not work for everyone, but is intended to provide a potential for folks who are trying to process the multitude of buttons and switches in this aircraft.

I actually use a gamepad for the CP/G and George! Two analogue axes and so far enough buttons. But good to have things explained ;-)

This was quite useful, thanks. Today I spent some time trying to map stuff to my Virpil collective and (as overflow, e.g. the "mini stick" of the) TMW throttle, and your guide gave me a big head start (since I didn't know what is and isn't important to map).

Replace it with a Deltasim mini stick upgrade, you can pretty much fit the same mini stick of the Virpil throttle to the Warthog one.

@@mhe0815 Yeah, it's a great mod and even Wags uses it. Was good enough for me so far to just press and hold a key and use the hat of my stick, never really needed control with different slew speeds, at least I felt so. But I'd need to put my Hornet antenna elevation and Tomcat DLC somewhere else without having appropriate hardware for those then, unless I won't use that thing for the TDC in the Hornet (not an issue in the Cat).

@@flex5002 it's the VPC TCS base model, without the throttle grip for now. I have it already and tried it out With the helicopters in DCS and it's nice. One thing I didn't notice was that the chair mount is separate so I'm waiting on that now hah

@@taidean ok, I see, because I'm was wondering which type of collective actually fits best by the buttons layout and visually/immersing for AH-64D the VPC Hawk-60 Collective Grip Or VPC SharKa-50 Collective Grip On the VPC Rotor TCS Plus Base, I'm asked to Virpil if they have any plans to release the AH-64D Replica Collective Grip, because it is unike like from other choppers but they don't want let me know about future plans, so I'm ordered only VPC MongoosT-50CM3 Throttle And VPC Constellation Alpha Flightstick.

@@flex5002 Ah, I went with the Alpha left grip to go with the collective since it has the most buttons on it. The shark and blackhawk grips looked like not enough buttons for "just in case" I need more buttons hah. i have all 3 Virpil control panels also for "just in case"

Thanks Camo! I’m hoping that you will weigh in on flying the aircraft as it seems all the emphasis is on the weapon systems. I understand the importance of the weapons but we have to fly the Apache before we can fight with the Apache!

7:56 I hope that George, as opposed to Petrovich who has to be a keyboard only geroi, actually has been given a "HOTAS" with actual axes that allow for granular inputs. I really hope. Having Petrovich in the back seat probably is the most motion sickness inducing thing ever, and I literally have no problems with that in any VR game, but sitting in the front pit of a Hind is a hell ride for sure. I might actually have a use for my TMWH stick now, as a host for a lot of TEDAC functions...

@@LazzySeal Is it that line from early November? "Petrovich AI ATGM guidance process improved. (Petrovich will react to airframe oscillations and turns more precisely)" TBH totally missed that because I literally just read "improved ATGM guidance" when that was released (those patch logs are so massive I don't always read them completely) and never would have thought that this was an improvement of his flying behaviour. Great to know that this has been addressed already. BTW I also didn't fly from around early October till end of January at all 'cos the vaccination put me into yet another medical condition, so I couldn't notice that by simply trying anyways.

Great vid, gonna save me some time and effort. Normally I try to mimick the actual aircraft controls on my Hotas (same as your setup) but it takes a good bit of trial and error to get things logical. This will stream line it a lot thanks. Took a long break from flight sims but I’ll be back the day the Apache drops

I recommend modifier buttons. They can be combined with each other and increase the functionality of other buttons.

I think I should be pretty well set with my Logitech Saitek X-56 Rhino HOTAS. I got it for a pretty good price from Amazon, has a lot of spring loaded momentary switches for mapping, plus a mode selector knob to change them all to something else if I need too, though I have never really needed to do that thus far. I use an Xbox controller when I sit in the front of the Hind but like a lot of others, I have found being in the front seat with Petrovich flying...less than ideal.

So effectively with your setup you don’t need to set up a group of controls for front seat and a group for back seat? That’s pretty good. My plan was to segregate seats. I think it’ll work better for the warthog stick.

How viable do you think the Apache will be for solo play? Asking as someone whose timezone and life makes it difficult to do any multiplayer. I found the Hind to be rather simple to operate solo, but the Apache is obviously way more complex for both pilot and gunner.

@@aaronwhite1786 Petro has been quite simple to use since everything except the ATGMs and chaff/flares can be controlled from the pilot seat. It seems like the Apache has more systems tasks distributed between pilot and gunner.

Hi, thanks for the vid! One thing that sticks with me, you said in one of your video's, you feel the gun's accuracy is too high, that it would not group as tightly irl? Do you still feel that way, or has it been changed? (From Wags last vid, still seems like it has a relatively tight grouping? Not sure if he was just shooting at less range than would typically be the case?)

Ahhh, SimpleRadio Standalone. That explains it, s'okay I don't need that for now. Was just trying to work out which bindings I really needed as I don't have as many hat switches as Casmo does. (and searching for "Apache SRS" hadn't given me any results, so I wondered what it was). Thanks :)

Thanks for the video as per usual and I await more tutorials on the AH-64, but I need a suggestion, I have the thrustmaster warthog thruster, do you have any keybind suggestions for it (in the same manner of the one you did to your thrust) and I also have the VKB stick you have, you haven't used some of the keys, so if you are able to suggest how I should layout the keys I would appreciate it, again thanks for the video as always and have a good day.

"Chucks guides" always use a Warthog and usually follow preety quickly on release.

I was actually able to map _all_ TEDAC functions to an xbox one gamepad. I needed FreePIE for some stuff but I basically set it up so that face buttons, sticks and dpad have 3 functions each with bumpers as shift. The idea is that without shift sticks are cursor and slew, dpad is for highest priority hat on left grip, face buttons correspond to free buttons on right grip (like slave). Pressing a bumper on the same grip as the corresponding control shifts to "medium" priority with sticks working as digital hats (with use of FreePIE and mapping shifted axis movements to unused view control axes), then pressing bumper on opposite grip shifts to "lowest" priority. It will obviously take some time to figure out which hat to assign to which priority, but I think this will work better than mapping it to hotas, particularly since I don't have that many hats on mine.

question, When I use TADS, I can use the MAN TRK to control the gun camera, I'm using an Xbox controller (all I got) and I use the right analog stick, But when I switch to any other sight I cannot use my right stick anymore, do you know why I can't move the camera?

Super useful video for a very complicated module. Gonna need every button, and more. Based on this I also ordered the Virgil hotas. Just curious if anyone has had any issues with ordering from Virgil with the current sanctions. My credit card was charged yesterday. I realize they’re based out of Belarus and Lithuania. I’m all for the Russian sanctions it don’t know if this is subject or not.

@@CasmoTV Oh, INS navigation fixes. I see, thanks! That might be interesting, depending on how far ED goes in terms of INS modeling. It's also an item that is still WIP for the Viper and the Hornet, but is necessary for missions where GPS is not available (usually if the mission date is pre-1994).

You have to use TrackIR to look at the button you want to operate in game then double jump with the button on the controller.

@@arguy3297 you can set a mode, so that in mode 1 takeoff/nav buttons do x, when near combat area use the shift modifier and its in mode 2 and the keys do something completely different. It can help if you are having that issue. Just a thought

Does the SRS work, I assume in a similar way to the trimmer in Russian helicopters, or is the Apache trim system completely different?

SRS is a communication mod. Force trim is force trim so yes they work the same.

Not sure if you’ll have the time to answer this. BUT if one had a Apache pilot collective on the way, Looking at it it seems a large amount of the Front seat are mirrored on there. Would you possible be able to answer what are the essential switches NOT mirrored that I need to map, to something else. At mo I have a TM warthog stick and the honeycomb bravo base that will also be attached to pc.

You must, if you have VR like me. With Saitek mapping software, you can assign same hats and buttons for different roles. I mapped mode 1 to PLT, CP/G, mode 2 to TEDAC handgrips, mode 3 to George UI show/hide and functions. Of course, you have to familiarize yourself with the module first. I am planning to create another profile that will put me in different seats as soon as I flick mode switch.

I just assume that I can bind all buttons as a pilot, but when I switch to CPG, I get to bind all (soime) buttons again, to other functions, right ? Did I make any sense ?

Oh wait, you already answered that in other comments... thanks. Your setup doesn't work for me by the way. In VR you have to use a button for zoom, not a slider. Even 2 buttons, for 2 zoom-levels. That's is my left pinky switch. On the cyclic, the pinky-switch is a modifier. But do'nt worrie, I'll figure it out :)

Well...the good news is, my beloved girlfriend bought Apache for me as a Valentine´s day gift. The bad news is, my hardware lacks A LOT of hats, switches and buttons to be even remotely able to apply Your layout. Great video tho.

What a girlfriend. Make sure you'll keep her forever :) I also have to come up with an idea, but so far my FFB2 + TMWH throttle combo was good enough even for the Tomcat with LANTIRN controls. I basically just have one hat on the stick as well and have to use a ton of modifier keys (the keyboard has enough of them by default). But in the Apache, it might make sense to put the TMWH stick in front of my actual stick right next to the keyboard to use it as the right TEDAC grip basically. Stuff on the left one is mostly redundant to controls on the mission grip of the collective so that goes on the throttle anyway.

@@linussandell831 Oh...now I feel bad for posting such comment. I have X52 HOTAS. I think I'm spoiled brat. T_T Yeah, modifiers will do the trick. I would like to have someone as a co-pilot, so I will stick to pilot seat. For now. Thank You.

Probably cos they're obsolete and not in use anymore. AH64E is what's classified now. This Longbow is from Iphone 1 era.

This is so confusing, following this guide I'm completely out of hat switches and I have 7 across my stick and throttle and I'm only halfway through. Completely baffled on how to set this up. 1) Which Image Auto Tracker do you bind? There are two in the keybinds and you only mention one. 2) What FLIR/DTV? I haven't found any keybinds matching this. 3) What FCR FOV? There is no control with this name.
