Lets be careful with asking for the SD-10 to be nerfed, at the end of the day this is a simulator not a battlefield game. If you want my 2 cents I think the SD-10 is preforming how a modern missile should behave. Its the AMRAAMs that are nerfed and not behaving correctly. The range and speed of the AMRAAMs in DCS have always been a topic of hot debate. Me personally? I'd like to see the AMRAAM get a buff, not the SD-10 get a nerf. Big thank you to Sunde for helping out in this video, the JF-17 is probably the most modern aircraft in DCS right now so I have some high expectations for it in the long run, its had a great launch, obvs a few bugs but its no big deal they will get ironed out soon, for the most part I'm very impressed with this aircraft and I highly recommend it for anyone who is on the fence about it, especially if you like the idea of being competitive in an air to air combat environment. Recently , JF 17 was seen with PL-15 missile

Deka recently said SD-10 was able to perform well, because they tweaked the coefficient of proportional navigation law with respect to range. They set 3 parameters at the range of 30km, 15km and 5km. The further away, the less it will response to sudden target manuver. So the missile would save a lot of energy, comparing to lead-persuiting a cranking target and hard-turning all the time. In fact ED has already implemented this to the 120C before, just not tweaking the parameters detailed enough.

The SD-10 is based on the PL-12 missile which should have similar ranges to the R-77-1 (upgraded R-77) and AIM-120C-7 (upgrade to extend the range of the C model). So I expected it to be longer range but didn't expect it would be that dominant, at least in energy retention with a turn. As far as chaff resistance goes, its a generation newer than the AIM-120C so it's to be expected. Not sure if this missile is in a completed state development wise but even if it isn't remember it's a generation newer than the AIM-120C so expect it to be VERY deadly.

I work in the final assembly line of this aircraft with the Pakistani Air Force. Not overly impressive but a decent bang for your buck. Good flying in DCS! Looking forward to more uploads with this aerial machine

The guidance and the drag coefficients on the SD-10 are insane. Really shows what the AAMRAM should be capable of if slightly less capable than the SD-10. There needs to be some real work done on the DCS missiles by Eagle Dynamics.

Not droning on and on before getting to the point scores big points, there are so many videos that I cant even get one minute into because the knucklehead is talking about everything BUT the topic of the video. So I salute you, and please keep these coming! I especially enjoy the cinematic aspects, some of these dogfights are movie quality. And how on earth do you keep TrackIR so still? JF-17 Thunder prove Its Self against Indian MiG 21 & SU-30 on 27 Feb 2018..

The PL-12 is about 20% larger and 10 years newer so it should outrange the 120C ? I guess the Pak airforce would know best since they operate both. Atleast they havent added the PL-15 :)

It adopts a normal aerodynamic shape layout with large slenderness ratio, small wingspan, and rudder control. Its overload of up to 38G can also ensure that the missile can track and intercept air targets that implement 9G overload maneuvers. In addition, SD-10 has a strong anti-interference ability, which can effectively combat several forms of electronic interference, basically covering the current common electronic interference methods. Use case SD-10 is very versatile and can be mounted on various advanced fighter aircrafts. In order to improve the combat effectiveness and use of SD-10, China is still actively improving it. The first is to increase the effective range, which is expected to exceed 100. Kilometers; followed by better electronic components and improved guidance accuracy. In the future, it is also possible to develop the SD-10 into ground-to-air and ship-to-air types, equipped on high-mobility off-road vehicles and warships, and become short-range or regional air defense weapons.

Mount the TGP. You can slave it to your locked on RADAR target and it will give you some awareness as to what he is doing. Great to look for missile launches too.

With those speeds, I'm curious how well it would perform climbing to a high altitude target from low altitude.

Two days ago Pakistan has conducted first flight of JF 17 thunder , In China . It is actually block-lll with no major changes , but it's has advanced radars , and major cockpit changes .

Curious to see if the SD-10 and Phoenix performances are sufficiently matched so that dominance as a long-range missile could essentially come down to the difference in their chaff appetites!

Thanks for the video and taking the time to do the test. Looks quite awesome to me. Funny thing is I am trying to learn the BVR stuff and especially online, always been more for the Warbirds. I was at your server yesterday for the second time ever but left shortly after as the chat was filled with whining about the Jf-17 and the SD-10. If it's one thing that is static through the flight sim community, no matter what game or sim, is whining about the things that challenge someones favorite plane or thing. In this case the 120C stopped being the best missile in the came and somehow that challenges people view in the world. How could a western made missile not be better than an eastern made goes the argument. Well, the SD-10 is at least 10 years newer than the Aim 120C so a better comparison between the two would probably be the 120D in the future. Like you said though, be careful with wanting a nerf for whatever, this is a sim not an FPS that needs balancing every week. By the way, is there a way to beat the SD-10 at the moment? Diving, notching and chaffing didn't do anything apparently :-O /Wilbus

Apparently KZfaq ate my last comment. On ED forum, the dev made several statements on missile performance. 1. They spent a lot of effort fine tuning their proportional navigation guidance logic. The flight path is efficient within the limits of DCS. 2. They have their own computational fluid dynamics data for the missile and used that to build on the DCS standard missile model. They hope to build a more advanced missile flight model later because the standard model has limitations.

Geez... the SD-10 (PL-12) got crazy homing system From wikipedia, it is said that the homing system are from Agat R-77 Vympel, while we know that R-77 didn't as smart as that SD-10 do, yes the SD-10 has more kinetic energy due to have different booster that the R-77 did, but considered the AIM-120C had better kinetic energy than R-77 did, the SD-10 are lethal combination of seeker and energy! DCS should added Typhoon and Meteor to counteract this... (SD-10 are glitching right now?)

@Growlingsidewinder could it be that when fighting against the AI JF-17 the SD-10 performs differently? I ve easily dodged 2 of them. AI in front of me at 45nm and 33000’. First SD-10 launched at 35nm, second one at 24nm (chaffs were effective in both cases). Finally I got killed by a 3rd SD-10 but it wasn’t that hard to avoid the first two.. BTW my missile evading skills are barely avarage, if not lower..

With the gentle and uniform curve of that missile I am tempted to think that the F15 pilot unwittingly botched his attempt to defeat the missile. If he were being properly evasive the missile would have need to correct more aggressively

Looks like the USAF needs to seriously upgrade the AIM-120. Supposedly, a Pakistani JF-17 shot down an Indian MiG-21bis last Spring though the incident is still under a lot of dispute.
