Deer and Deer Hunting

7 жыл бұрын

www.deeranddeerhunting.com With good reason, big buck hunting tactics often focus on the whitetail behavior of the male half of the species. There’s nothing wrong with that, but whitetail biology demands that it takes two to tango. That’s why in addition to food and security, the best big buck hunting strategies must also factor in whitetail does. If you can keep the does around, chances are you can also hold the bucks.
That means keeping an eye on the buck-to-doe ratio of your plot’s herd. Many hunters mistakenly think that as a rule there will always be more does than bucks. However, does and bucks are born at almost equal rates. The difference is that bucks are more wary.
Your job is to create a deer management plan that keeps this ratio in check. The best way to know whether it’s time to kill bucks or does is through scouting. Deer habitat can tell you almost everything you need to know.
To continue learning, watch this full episode of Land of Whitetail.

Most of these guys are in deer farms so it's easy for them to say stuff like that, we got over 390 acres on a mountain an we try to fix it up an everything but it doesn't matter how hard you try if ur in the right spot at the right time it will happen unlike all the fakes out here hunting over food plots an shit if u can't hunt fr then u dint need to be hunting at all.

Jared Boyd I know this comment is 8 months old but I want to address it. My family and a few friends (10 people total) have hunted the same 1200 acres for 15 years. We plant about 12-15 food plots every year. Only 2 mature bucks have EVER been killed on food plots. They don’t come out in the open in the daytime here.

Dalton v Oh yes I definitely believe that. I was addressing the guy that was bashing those that hunt over food plots. We plant food plots and we know if we want to harvest a mature buck that it won’t happen in a food plot. You might catch him on the way to the food plot a few minutes before dark but to see a mature buck in a food plot during daylight is a rare sight.

The American Chauvinist My father in law and I saw the biggest white tail in Beaver county Pennsylvania. He had to weight at least 375. The only reason we saw him is because he was being chased by a pack of dogs. Yes there are some nice deer in Pa but I never thought I’d see one that big. This was in 1991.

You guys are exactly right. I strive to keep and maintain 20 acres of what I call "The Nursery." Using the does to lure the bucks works. Beware the Matriarch! She is smart and if she spots you... she will remember and teach the younger ones.

Love your guy's channel, I learn a lot and in hunting knowledge is power. Thanks for all the videos. Just a little insight here for new or inexperienced hunters to know about small pieces of property. I have a small piece of property (about 4 actual hunt-able acres). I have one doe family that frequents my property daily. So I shoot the doe fawn each year. Then every fourth year, I shoot the mature doe, and the pattern repeats. I also have public land deer show up (usually a group of 4 or 5 doe) around the 1st of November, and show up atleast 3 times a week for the next 3 weeks. So on 4 acres of hunting land I can take 2 does and maintain a stable deer population. Not a good property for bucks though, For the past 10 years, 1 or 2 bucks show up between November 12 -15. Usually only a 4 or 6 pointer so I let them go by. Just wanted to post this to let people know you can hunt very small pieces of property and not wipe your deer herd out. I always hear people say they don't have enough property too hunt. 4 acres, and I can harvest 2 deer each year (usually I harvest one and let a new hunter or young hunter kill the other). One last thing, every year try to introduce 1 new person too hunting. A lot of people tell me they don't want to show others because that just means more hunters to compete with (especially on state land), but with more hunters we have more chance of the hunting tradition to continue.

35 deer per 640 acres that's over 18 acres per deer that means you might not see a deer at all if you hunt the wrong time or spot. Rule of thumb for cattle in my area is 5 acres per head God knows cattle eat more than deer.

I have too many does and it's not because that's all I see but because they don't give doe tags for my area. Only buck tags. The only does that get killed here are by other animals or cars and that's still not enough

How can you know where the does is bedding and travel routes. Do you use trail cams?
@mit0009
@mit0009 4 жыл бұрын
Scouting is how u know where the bedding area is. A bed is an area about 2ft x 3ft spot and usually there's more than one in an area. Doe trails are bigger than buck trails and more worn down.

You have way too many does on your property...more does should be taken imo. On my properties, I DO SHOOT the matriarch does. Those are the ones who will steer the doe herd away from your property when they detect the slightest hunting pressure. Where I hunt, I cull the older does and then I notice the bucks tend to follow the smaller (yearling) does because the young deer aren't aware of the "abuse" they are in for. Also, love how you covered up the gut shot on your doe by placing the crossbow over it. I have to laugh when hunters, especially archers, gut shoot deer when they use a peep sight or a scope on their bow. I can totally understand hitting them high when they drop to run away, but peep sights are there to mostly correct left/right accuracy, and scopes, well, they are installed for pinpoint accuracy. Then you preach shot placement at the end of the video, smh...But to each their own, and good luck this hunting season.
