Dean talks about the first kiss he had with Melissa Gilbert and the chaos happening around them at the time on set. I loved to hear actors who are proud of the work they have done instead of complaining. I think I might read the Little House books. Another wonderful interview. He should write a book.

I still watch Little House over & over. Modern day shows are crude in that the characters speak crudely to each other & lack morals. Dean, your smile just radiated all over the screen! You were perfectly cast for the part of Almonzo! Michael Landon gave us all a great gift with this show. My one concern about the show was that I hoped & prayed the animals were treated kindly.

Little House definitely holds up even today. I hope the animals were treated well also. i love this interview. I both love the Wilder siblings- Almanzo and Eliza Jane and the way they were portrayed on screen by Dean and Lucy. And am glad that the actors were good friends to this day. They had good chemistry on screen. They are my two favorite characters outside the Ingalls family.

i love Dean's portrayal of Almanzo. It was innocent but romantic. He was older but he played it sweetly without offending anybody. He was a bit dorky but romantic. It was important that both characters showed innocence and provincial not only because that was the setting but also becoz that was the only approach that is accptable in the show as wholesome as LHOP

Since the real Almanzo and Laura were 10 years apart, living in the Victorian Era, their performances were true to life.

After all these years, I watch Little House on the Prairie nearly every day. It is on some different channels. A wonderful interview. It is always gratifying to know that Dean Butler is involved in the preservation of the Almanzo wilder home in New York State. I believe he also appears along with other cast members at different places associated with Laura Ingalls wilder. And her family. I wish there were a modern version of Little House on the Prairie. That type of family programming is sadly lacking today. Thank you so much for the interview.

Mr Butler may have been caught between a rock n a hard place, so young to some n too old for others, however, he was certainly a Gentleman in both. Having never seen or heard an interview with Dean before I can definitely see he is as charming n delightful off screen as he was on. I’ve been binging on little House now for aboriginal two weeks now ,I’ve probably watched the kissing scene 20 or 30 times ,it’s just so sweet and innocent ,I recently watched an interview with her and Dean Butler about that scene ,she said she was terrified ,because it was her first ever kiss ,I’ve also been watching Little House on Amazon Prime as well ,it’s such a classic.

I just finished watching the episode that Dean Butler said was his hus favorite other than the first iiss scene ,its the one where was paralyzed and had given up on life ,but he finally realized that he wanted to re-build their home and Charles helped him to surprise Laura ,oh it made me cry ,those two had such great chemistry.

Love Dean/Lmanzo! I love him talking about that kiss as he often does. Such a pivotal moment in so many ways because Laura grows up at that point. I remember watching that scene when it first aired because it seems a lot of people held their breath. The fans were protective of Laura too. It was done perfectly and all young girls felt they were getting their first kiss too.

Thank you for the interview. I only clicked this video out of curiosity but I was happily surprised how well Dean expresses feelings, memories, and the situations of the TV show at that time from his point of view in clear & honest heartfelt words. The interviewer’s skills in listening and posting well-thought questions also contributed to this lovely interview. As a Japanese girl growing up in a real rural countryside of Japan in late 80s to early 90s, watching LHOTP faithfully every week on telly, fell in love with Almanzo, I really enjoyed this video. Dean Butler was the best thing about the later seasons. Macho, feisty, strong willed, a bit chauvinistic but in a humorous way. I liked that they gave Almanzo and Laura a full season before getting married for Laura to try to get his attention and Almanzo to gain her parents’ approval and even though you know it’s eventually going to happen it develops so slowly and gradually that it feels real. I would have liked to have seen a scene in Sylvia where he teaches her how to be fast on the draw because Laura would have been traumatized after coming home from the doctor’s appointment with Sylvia.

I have grow up with Little House before to go to school (i have 32 years old) and i prayed my husband to buy me the DVDs and the books. It's difficult in France to find all books but I have it, yes! And to see Dean Butler in these video was amazing for me because i have to confess i was in love of Almanzo Wilder when i was younger like a lot of girls i suppose 😂 So I go to see the other videos of your channel. I was a junior in college in 1981 and I remember my student advisor telling me I had to take a certain class for my major. When he told me that the show was on Monday nights, I told him I couldn't take the class. He thought I was joking when I told him that I couldn't take the class because Little House on the Prairie was on at the same time as the class. He soon found out I wasn't joking! :-)

I really enjoyed this interview. Lots of information. I was sad when Dean said he is "not a religious person" because he did not explain what he meant. At the end of his life he will have to face a much bigger reality than Little House.

Great interview! I do have something to say about Dean saying Michael Landon never disappointed the audience…I still don’t understand why he had to write that Mary and Adam’s baby died in the fire. So much had already happened to her…now you take her baby in a horrific way, too?! 😢

There was no chemistry which was displayed and Dean handled very well.. Melissa even in her book stated she was guilty of not supporting him.. glad they get along now

William Schallert was on Dobie Gillis as a teacher; one episode I saw many years ago, some money disappeared from his desk. Then Maynard tells Dobie a squirrel gave him some money, the same amount as the teacher lost. Anyway they find the tree were the squirrel is hiding stuff and give it to the teacher. One item is an anniversary card he had bought for his wife then forgot about. He then says, this is why my wife is mad at me. No wonder she's been feeding me beans. LOL It was very funny at the time anyway. 😜

I was a kid back then and it was hard to see Laura kissing a grown man. We all still viewed Laura as a little girl. I will quote a line from Laura right now. Laura said: "I'm not a little girl. I'm a woman. A woman!" That was after pa found out from Nellie that she saw Laura and Almanzo kissing, when all he did was kissed her forehead. LOL But it was hard to see Laura's character go from a child to a young adult just like that.

This story was never properly finished. When will the talented cast of "Little House" get back together and finish the story of Laura and Almanzo Wilder? I'm waiting for the mini series. The story of the Wilder's later years, their daughter Rose and how Laura came to write the Little House books is fascinating! It needs to happen. There are so many actors from the original cast that can be brought back.

I watched an interview with Dean butler where him and the interviewer were talking about almanzo and Laura first kiss a lot of people think their first kiss was in the sweet sixteen episode but the interviewer pointed out that techniquelly their first kiss was in the episode Annabelle where Laura dressed as a clown dumped water on almanzo date Laura kisses him there that was the first kiss dean said he forgot about that great episode

The real Almanzo and Laura, I believe there was a 10 year age difference so Dean and Melissa's ages were perfect and it was Melissa's first kiss too in real life\

And to think the real Laura and Almanzo didn't kiss until they were engaged after he gave her a ring. Also for the longest time Laura thought they were just friends, and it was Ma Incalls who had concerns about the age difference not Pa Incalls.

How awkward for Melissa to have her mother there watching them kiss. Yeah, that age difference with her being a young teen definitely wouldn’t fly today. Also I don’t see how he could have focused on finals waiting for that call.

On the show itself, literally nobody calls him Al-MAN-zo (even though it is *written* in that way, but it is *not pronounced* in that way). Before writing this comment, I watched several clips from the show itself of other actors and actresses saying his character name, and all of them always say it as Al-MON-zo. But don't take my word for it; rather, watch any of the footage and hear it for yourselves, and you'll see that what I said is true. So it seems Alison and Dean are performing some revisionist history there by trying to retconn a new pronunciation onto him.

The reason for this, is that later a recording of Laura emerged with the pronunciation as AlMANzo. The said it on the show wrong the whole time

That is a great book and I am sure based on the book and the way Dean describes the bizarre environment with Melissa's Mom made things really hard for Melissa.
