So here’s the run down, in the previous song (“Words Fail”) Evan finally came clean to the Murphy’s that he and Connor weren’t really friends. Before this song Evan comes home to see his mom, who knew that the letter (that Alana had posted online) was one of his therapy assignments. She apologizes to Evan, for not seeing that he was hurting and has a heart to heart with him in this song. If that didn’t make sense, I’m willing to clarify further.

This song hit me so hard .I’m crying so much.My parents were separated and soon divorcing.That happen when I was in Highschool.My senior year.My mom left and I lived with my dad.My mom didn’t help me at all or hear me out when i was telling her how I was feeling.My dad was there for me through it all.We were struggling a lot ,but we did what we could.I love my mom still as shes my mom,but it hurt me when she said things like you knew this was just gonna happen or something along those lines.

I watched the whole musical a while ago and Words Fail almost got me, the conversation between that song and this one almost got me, this song had me weeping like some sort of tear factory

The last animatic was Evan talking to Conner’s parents and Zoey, admitting he lied. This is when he comes home, Evan’s Mum found ‘conner’s suicide note’ on line and realised it was Evan’s therapy letter. This is her consoling her son as she finally understands how Evan felt and she knew she couldn’t always be there for him but she’s promising him she’ll always be by his side and support him.

God, he must have feelt like she was lying to him when he was a child. She told him she would be there, but she wasn't becouse she always was bussy with work. Children are so fragile.

Can you imagine what it must feel like to have told this lie, have it snowball out of your control, realize you've hurt other people. You come clean and everyone hates you now, including you. At your most vulnerable, your most alone, when you feel like your world is falling apart and you know it's your fault, your mom tells you that it'll get better, that she forgives you, and that, most importantly, she will never leave you. Song makes me cry every time.

My mom (single mom) is having surgery today for cancer. And I went to this song. Growing up with ADHD and anxiety wasn't easy. But I don't think my mom came up short at all. I think she did a magnificent job. and I really pray I'll have my mom still at the end of today.

As someone who lost 90% of his already small family within a year and a half in 2015 and whose mom now is dealing cancer, the "your mom isnt going anywhere" really broke me.
