Scout Moor has been walked by us before, but this time we returned to the other side of the Moor. We stated from Bleakholt (close to the Animal Sanctuary) then ascended up through Dearden Clough before reaching Scout Moor.
My main curiosity in returning, was to See Waugh's Well, a Lancashire dialect writer born in Rochdale. A long slog up to the Well part of Scout Moor, but with views down the valley were breathtaking. Returning via the Rossendale Way, we completed the circular route back to Bleakholt.

Nice video I’m Rossendale born & bred my granddad used walk over these moors to work and I’ve followed in his footsteps and have been walking this area since I was 12, i am now 62 and ’ve seen it change over the years, the windmills the biggest. The paths are so worn and boggy due to the idiots on scrambler motorbikes ripping up dearden clough up to the windmills it’s sad to see how the areas paths have been destroyed by these morons who cannot abide by the numerous signs telling them it’s illegal ( sorry rant over) but I love the area of Rossendale and its hills

I think when you're born and bred in a local area it becomes special. It's interesting to read your experiences walking over these moors and agree changes do make a difference. The churned up paths resulting from motorbikes really are annoying!! As you say Rossendale has much to offer. We even visited( on another day out,) The Plunge Waterfalls just below Dearden Clough. Appreciate your comments Andy

Michael Wife Road did make me laugh. With all that mud, your new boots certainly got a workout. Dogs should be on lead at all times. They were lucky the farmer wasn't there. Michael's knowledge is amazing with landscape, farming, and history. It's a wonderful hike, Shanita, and beautiful music too. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Chris. That's so nice to read about you liking the music, and the humour re boots and Michael's wife street name. Such a coincidence. I nearly said what could happen to those dogs if the farmer had been around. But I notice when returning they had both dogs on leads after saying something to them. It really is a problem.😯

Hello Shanita & Michael, Nice to see you out and about on your walk. My husband & i was up near the animal sanctuary ( Bleakholt) in March this year for a wander. Been on some little walks since, enjoyed the mild exercise. Love your new boots i recently got some Sketchers( very comfortable) for walking but certainly not for rugged terrain! Local poet was interesting & the reason why you need a map, thanks for that! I always think you must be fit as a fiddle 😊 thanks very much for sharing your walk, and for not showing us you both cleaning your muddy boots lol😅😅!

Hello Anna. Thanks so much for watching our walk around this area. We came back to visit Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary for a social day out, and I also did a film of animal sanctaries on instrumental music channel. (Link above.) Boots are now well and truly worn in, so didn't remain new for long. I think Michael is right about mobile signals/batteries not always reliable whilst on a hike.🙂

Michael Wife Lane - now there's a name 😁Hope you like your new boots. Michael was determined to get you walking through the mud to christen them! 😅Good to see the Peel Tower in the distance in some of your shots. Dearden Clough looks a very beautiful valley, lovely footage from your camera there. Loved the look of Waugh's Well too, interesting looking memorial. Nice stringy chords in your music Shanita along with the piano 👍

Thanks Patrick as always for watching and commentating. The music 'Echoes From the Past' was actually a variation of 'Once Upon a Dream' - so I followed your tip on variations of previous tracks. Never seen a street name so identifiable and appropriate to us before !!😏😉Some of the scenes, once on Scout Moor top, were breathtaking and worth the climb up. I do hope you are now fully recovered again. All best for the weekend😊

A familiar area and we have walked some of this many years ago starting at Plunge Road via Edenfield Waterfall. I started a project on Edwin Waugh but never did finish it. Visited a monument in Rochdale and the Edwin Waugh pub. Love the water flowing over the ladder stile. Your walks are covering a good distance these days, sitting in my nice comfy chair, I'm exhausted. Enjoyed the music as always Shanita.

Talk about being exhausted, I usually am at the end of Michael's routes and like cafe/cake treats afterwards. We too visited a waterfall from Plunge Road too, again trying another camera. (now have about 4 on the go !!!). Your project on Edwin Waugh sounds interesting. Was it a film? Didn't know there was an Edwin Waugh Pub either. Surprising what new discoveries come up through walking. Thanks Steve for feedback on music too.

@@CountrysideWalkingYes Shanita, the Edwin Waugh project was intended as a film, but I gave up on it. The camera conundrum has been plaguing me for years, all these new ones they keep bringing out.

Not been to Waugh's Well for years. I used to go from the Lane Head side. EW was an interesting man. I keep saying I will visit his grave at Kersal sometime.

I didn't know Edwin Waugh was buried at Kersal until reading the info on that board. I tend to take photos of info whilst out walking, then study them when I get back home. There's always something new or interesting to find out on most walks.

Hi Ken. For a change I took Michael's comments about the mud as a joke. But inevitable boots don't remain new for long if out hiking. Thanks as always Ken for support and comments.🙂
