This video made me confident enough to undertake replacing the clutch in my Ford 1710. I've never done it before, so I sweated all the details you take for granted. However, the one thing not covered by the service manual is the adjustment of the clutch fingers and THAT was where you lost the footage! To you that's just another detail - to me it's critical. I think I've got it right so I'll put it together and see. Thanks for posting.

WOW! Thanks for the memories. Having worked for a Ford farm equipment dealership from 1980 to 1990. I assembled, PDI'd and did repairs on those thousand and thousand ten series tractors. I loved those little Japanese diesels, the tractor units never broke down, it was all the added American crap that kept me working on them. OOPS actually had to fix a 1910 once, some bright American engineer thought that a backhoe and loader attachment was a good idea without a connecting frame, split the transmission case . I liked the comment about hydraulic actuated clutches,never had one on those tractors, either a normal manual trans or a hydrostat, ya gotta watch those off the cuff comments. The next Gen had the shuttle shift, wait till you get into one of those. Keep up the vids man
@I-Dragonwrath
@I-Dragonwrath 4 жыл бұрын
Your description of the situation you had with the 1910 sounds similar to what I'm dealing with. I inherited a 1900 with a bucket and hoe. Completely empty of hydro fluid when I got it home. Filled it and found the leak. The mating between the clutch housing and trans has a gap starting from the top that tapers to nothing at the bottom. Can actually see light through... Hydro oil flows freely from the gap about halfway up the trans. Hoping I can split the machine and close the gap. Any advice you may have on the situation would be hugely appreciated.

In my life there will be precisely zero opportunities to put this knowledge into practice. Whilst I am an HGV driver I rarely bother any of the mechanical aspects of the vehicles I use (other than daily checks and the like) and yet here I am hooked on Deboss videos. Love the subject matter and your commentary and description is superb. Long may it continue!

I had a 2110 4x4 once. The clutch went away very suddenly. Wasn't the clutch, the thrust bearing on the crank went. That is when I found out about the quality of the Shibraura engine. I traded it off. The whole tractor was a turd.

BTW, I always are swearing, and bleeding, when repairing Euro Fords, but this tractor is a rebadged Shibaura, from Japan. Much easier to understand, and work on.

Ave did a neat trick to drive out a blind bearing driving greasy paper towel into the hole with a punch. Same idea as the grease but it didn't rely on the seals holding the grease back. Might work for the pilot bearing.

Very cool video. Wish I had seen this sooner. Just rebuilt the shibura diesel in a Ford 1910 this summer. Not the easiest motor to work on and expensive. Hardest part was getting it back together at the end with a new clutch. Ended up re-splitting it to adjust clutch fingers. Ended with about $2k US in parts and machining. Lift cilender seal is the next project for it.

Those old Ford tractors had a timer that would shut off the glow plugs after so many seconds. The timers were known to fail, so you might not have had operating glow plugs after they were replaced. I’ll bet the valve lash is way off too, they are all manual.

The next time you have pilot bearing this difficult to remove and grease doesn't get it. Mix the grease with a disposable shop rag in 1/2" strips. This will still allow you to pack it in the hole and it's fluid enough to spread out behind the bearing and push the bearing out without coming back through the bearing cage. Sometimes you have to bump it up and actually use a cotton rag but that's on a really persistent bearing
