Allow me to explain how and what to foreshadow in Death House for your #CurseofStrahd #Ravenloft campaign! Durst Manor is an infamous dungeon for first-level characters to acclimate to #Barovia. Deemed 'Death House' for its haunted, murderous nature, this sentient domicile is packed with details that DMs have enjoyed customizing and homebrewing. But there is more to Death House than meets the eye; it's the perfect place to foreshadow narratives, themes, and events expected to occur during the campaign. It's as if Death House is a Castle Ravenloft Jr.

A complaint I've seen is how out-of-place or out-of-nowhere things are like the Roc are. Introducing that gigantic feather works perfectly for setting up that encounter in advance! Great ideas!

I'm going to run CoS and been debating on whether to run Death House or not. While we can get together frequently, it's usually only for a couple hours and have been thinking I'll need to streamline a lot of stuff, otherwise it'll take us like 2 years to run through it. Death House has always felt like an odd out of place addition to the campaign to me and have been thinking of cutting it. While I've come across some pretty good guides for it, I think this video has been one of the biggest selling points for why to do it, and just how subtly important it is. Your video makes it almost essential. Thank you for a view I haven't seen on it, and thank you for talking me into ways on how to run it.

I actually found a modified death house on drive thru rpg. It condenses everything into a 2-3 hour session. I’m kind of in same boat with my group. We play mainly once a month in person for 3-4 hours at most so I’ve been trying to find things within CoS that’ll help streamline but also ways of expanding the lore so it feels more alive wait… unalive lol and lived in.

Destruction and Return at 06:46 is my favorite element of foreshadowing in Death House. My second favorite is One Must Die.

i wonder if it would be possible to break the strahd cycle by leaving one of the party members in his place as the lord of Barovia? kind of ties into One Must Die

@@FlutesLoot I tend to like long running campaigns so I may start off with CoS and end up with some crazy shadowfell domains of dread mumbo jumbo. I don't know yet hahah As far as streaming is concerned it totally depends on my players, I havent spoken with them yet so no idea lol

My personal favorite foreshadowing is the dollhouse, foreshadowing the replica of the castle, found in the Amber Temple 🤯

I just ran the first part of Death house last week. I gave one of my players a Hat of Vermin.... they don't know about rat spies yet.. but they will... oh yes they will.
