The 2003 mystery novel and 2006 thriller of the same name have popularized the idea that Mary Magdalene was actually Jesus' wife and is pictured sitting next to Jesus in Leonardo da Vinci's famous painting of the Last Supper. John Hamer of Centre Place looks at what history can tell us about the historical Mary Magdalene, Jesus, and John the Beloved (the male apostle in da Vinci's painting). He also identifies the real "codes" or symbols embedded in Christian iconography and how the Da Vinci Code gets the theology of Gnostic and Orthodox Christianity backwards.

Another DNA wrinkle: we don't actually inherit DNA from every single on of our ancestors. We inherit 1/2 of our DNA from each of our parents, but the fraction DNA we inherit from each of their parents is never exactly 1/4 because of recombination. In fact, it's entirely possible that a grandparent's contribution to their grandchildrens' genomes can differ by a factor of 2. This random variation eventually results in some children receiving 0 DNA from a proportion of their ancestors, with that proportion growing the further back you go in time. After 8 generations, a child inherits DNA from less than half of their 256 great-great-great-great-great-great grandparents. After the number of generations between Jesus and Sophie, it's a near certainty that she would have inherited no DNA from Jesus.

True for the chromosomes in the nucleus, but not for the mitochondrial DNA (or more specific: the part that is still in the mitochondria themselves and has not migrated to the nucleus yet). That part is transferred from mother to child only, and only mutates slowly. So it can be used to both trace the maternal line and to get a rough idea how many generations apart two samples are. On the other hand it would be of no use to prove that Sophie was indeed a direct descendant of Mary Magdalen, she could as well be a descendant of Mary's sister, or another female common predecessor even further up the line.

The hymn ‘Jerusalem’ has nothing to do with British Isrealism. It is based on William Blake’s poem ‘And did those feet in ancient time’, in which Blake speculates on whether Jesus ever came to England. It has been suggested that Blake is expanding on the myth that Joseph of Arimathea traveled to Britain. This legend was promoted by the monks of Glastonbury abbey who used Arthurian fiction to attract pilgrims (they also claimed Arthur’s grave), Joseph bringing the Holy Grail with him and also planting his staff into the ground at Glastonbury from which a bush miraculously grew. Jerusalem is a metaphor for Christ’s kingdom of god, or a New Jerusalem that is brought about by the second coming. Neither Blake’s poem nor the medieval myth suggest that British people are descended from the ten lost tribes.

The actual history of Mary Magdalene in France is quite an interesting one. According to legend Jesus's three friends from Bethany, Mary (identified with The Magdalene), Martha and Lazarus came to Gaul after his death. They died and were buried in different places there. Originally Vezelay in Burgundy was regarded as Mary's burial place but owing to political disputes the city became unattractive to pilgrims and in 1279 The Pope officially accepted the rival claim of St Maximin in Provence and this remains the accepted burial site. It would be quite droll if Vezelay should revive its claim and the two cities held a competition to perform the most impressive miracle. The Louvre Pyramid could compete too if it liked.

Got to do my own bit of debunking here! In Roman architecture, a triangle above a window is symbolic for female. If it's male, instead of a triangle, there is a kind of curve that echoes the shape of a dickhead. While you're debunking conspiracies, and since you sorta got into the confusion around the origin of the gospels, would you consider doing a video on the whole "Caesar's Messiah" theory? I watched the documentary a few years ago and I remember thinking that it seemed plausible, but barely. It seems very possible to me that Vespasian didn't create the gospels, but that he did actually secretly support and encourage Christianity, believing that if the Jews would convert they would be less rebellious.

@@Ballosopheraptor With Textual Criticism? I guess their could be more scholars but I didn’t know it was grossly small amount. Are you sure about that or is that just a thought. As far as I’ve understood it, the credentialed and peer-reviewed Textual Critics we do have available to us have basically said that the New Testament seems pretty preserved. Only that, if someone were to be absolutely strict about it, yes, technically we don’t have full extant manuscripts from the 1st century. Or 2nd(?I could be wrong about that). But the fragments we have from them, and the extant manuscripts we have from afterwards, plus evidence from the writings of the church Fathers, show more than just remarkable preservation of the text. I’m not saying don’t hear out the lecturer. However, the people you would actually want to consult about these matters are people who’ve actually had training in fields relative to the subject, and especially peer-reviewed ones. Meaning, you don’t learn history from a butcher, even if he’s “studied” and you don’t go to learn how to be a butcher from a historian. The historians and textual critics are the ones who actually know what they’re talking about the most (because they base their beliefs off the facts and data, because they actually have access to all the facts and the data). It’s a gigantic red flag when they investigate theories and then come away saying “No real historian, from a real University, would ever be fooled by such a theory” and “Mere college sophomores in my classes would shred this theory up”. Btw Ehrman has also mentioned multiple times that the Da Vinci Code is great fiction but terrible and inaccurate history. Just wanted to share.

Kudos. This is a very well rounded and well researched debunk. It's easily the best rebuttal of the Da Vinci Code I've come across. Truth be told, I neither read the book nor the movie because I always thought it bad fiction. Perhaps one little details that could have been clarified a bit better: Ancient Coptic - as well as modern Coptic - is closely related to Aramaic. Which is of course meaningless in this context because the text was a translation from a Greek original, or possible a Greek translation. So, if there ever was a text in Aramaic, it is lost to history. A Coptic retranslation made with not too many translations in between, and close to the time when the original was written, may however be the best approximation to the original. Provided that the translator knew all the involved languages very well. And provided that there ever was an Aramaic original to begin with, which appears somewhat unlikely. This little and really insignificant detail aside, this lecture is outstanding.

@@Audio_Book_Nut will just quote tvtrope Have you ever picked up a work by a creator who claims (or at least implies) that their product is based on thorough and careful research, only to discover what you're actually holding is a steaming pile of lazy assumptions or outright lies? Congratulations, you've been Dan Browned. Some authors and writers will admit that they take advantage of Acceptable Breaks from Reality, Artistic License, the Rule of Cool, the Rule of Funny, or any of the other Rules of Whatever. Some acknowledge freely that Reality Is Unrealistic, and admit that it affects the choices they make in their works. And the audience, in turn, will forgive a Necessary Weasel or two as long as the story is engaging and the contradictions aren't too farfetched. Not these guys. They claim that their work is carefully researched and entirely accurate, so - with the exception of some fictionalized elements which will be obvious to the reader - what they offer is as factual as the encyclopedia. Why they do this varies: perhaps a work which they can call nonfiction seems more serious than a work of fiction, or it will attract a "better" readership, or it will increase the author's standing among "real" experts in history, geology, religious studies, etc. Perhaps it's some kind of Stealth Parody on the chosen media in general, seeing how far our sociopathic Trolling Creator can get away with presenting lies as facts. Or perhaps it's to cover the fact that they haven't done any research at all, and Refuge in Audacity is less humiliating than admitting the truth. note Some genres and media tend to be free from Dan Browning by their very nature. Comic books, cartoons, manga, and anime very rarely make claims of authenticity. Advertising examples are rare, largely because of truth-in-advertising laws; companies are allowed to make all sorts of claims about their products as long as they avoid making clear statements of fact. Named after Dan Brown, who is rather fond of asserting that most of the stuff that goes into his thrillers is actually true. Even though it's child's play to find errors of fact in them.

Many books in this genre preceded “The da Vinci Code” but I don’t hear historians crying fowl about those. I also didn’t hear an outcry about Brown’s previous novel about the Vatican. Their role worked precisely because everyone knew that this was actually a man behind it. I get the impression, though it may be wrong, that the presenter hasn’t actually read the book. Having said that, there is a lot of interesting information in this presentation. The bigger question not tackled here is why in the Jewel-Christian religions god is a male, whereas in antiquity many religions where based on the sacred feminine.
@blogbalkanstories4805
@blogbalkanstories4805 2 жыл бұрын
This is again an extremely ahistorical projection. In antiquity already, most societies were strictly patriarchal, and they were even more so than today. Now, they all knew female godesses and in most cases, the divinity of fertility was female, or at least one of the divinities for fertility. But this is in and of itself no evidence of a principile of the "sacred feminine". Women as bearers of what men have sown can easily be turned into a very sexist idea. The religions and cultures that were relevant to the development of Western culture all head male head divinities: The Romans, the Greeks, Judaism, as far as we know the Celts as well, as did the Persians and later the Germanic tribes - whose religion arguably didn't have as much influence on Western culture as a whole but informed quite a few details.

Teabing points at a painting of the Last Supper and says "Who is that sitting at the right hand of Jesus?" It's Saint Thomas, who in the past was always depicted as a feminine looking male. If that's not St. Thomas, then where is St. Thomas? In the bathroom? The throat slitting motion to fake Mary Magdalene is more of a there, there everything will be OK, Thomas. "How many cups are there?" "One big one in the middle." Nope, it's a bunch of small cups. Proving what? Also, this is not a photograph! It was painted by a man. 38:22 proving once again why people who aren't experts in Judaism shouldn't talk about it. Mishnah and Gemara run Jewish culture; it was a due process system and a civil code much like American law, with some differences of definition. Every legal system promotes the aims of the culture it operates. One aim of Jewish culture is the achuzot, the property split up after the Exodus. The law is, a man is required to have children so there is somebody to inherit his achuzah. The man who refuses to perform yibum is spitting in Gd's face by refusing to sire children. So the woman spits in HIS face when the ritual is performed that separates them. The idea is to pass the achuzah through the male but when this fails, it passes to the female line as the story of Tslafchad's daughters show. Using a story to establish this rule is a sign of an oral tradition, one that remained coherent for several millennia. Mishnah and Gemara fill in the blanks of Torah law by establishing standards, resolving conflicts, and in general making it possible to carry on the culture. It's obvious Harner has no clue about how an oral tradition runs a culture and how cohesive it is. I have a blog on this.

Don't forget, that Francis Bacon re-edited the King James versions, so many of these verses can be misinterpreted and in a base of people try to understand, by the way, about John the beloved, Bacon just trying to favor King James, to make the point that Jesus has a male companion, so, make look normal to be in a same-gender relationship.

No, the idea that Bacon edited the KJV is a pseudohistorical conspiracy theory. There's no serious evidence of it. And if you take the vitruvian man's 72/27 and apply it to every 15 degrees you will move up 40 numbers every time. 15 degrees x72 ÷ 27 = 40 30 x72 ÷ 27 = 80 45 x72 ÷27 =120 60 x72 ÷27 =160 75 x72 ÷27= 200 90 x72 ÷27= 240 105 x72 ÷27= 300 2700 x72 ÷27=7200 Etc all the way up Please follow the math very carefully!!!! And try out the ventruvian man formula yourself at the end!!! They say the Mayan long count is 5200 years or 1,872,000 days but is actually 7200 years or 2,592,000 days. When we subtract the two we have 2000 years or 720,000 days. 72 is the number of completion. They started time over at 5200 years which was the year 0 AD. The last 2000 years they put on a special deceptive calendar to confuse mankind and the times of the end. They claim we run a gregorian calendar but when we do the math of 60 minutes per hour at 24 hours a day we get 1,440 minutes per day, 10,080 minutes per week and at 52 weeks we get 524,160 minutes. The solar cycle is exactly 360 days. With lunar cycles every 30 days exactly. 360 is a complete circle and a complete cycle. At 80 minutes per hour with an 18 hour clock day we also get 1,440 minutes per day, same as the gregorian calendar. But at 5 day weeks we get 7,200 minutes per week, and with a 72 week year we get 518,400 minutes. Take the 524,160 minutes from current time calendar minus the 518,400 minutes from the real solar cycle calendar of 360, exactly, we have 5,760 minutes added every year based on the currently ran calendar, which is 72 hours extra added every year. So 72 hours added every year for 2000 years is 144,000 hours or 8,000 days extra at the real solar cycle of 360 days and 80 minute 18 hour days.. However it is an additional 88 days for the 22 years we are currently about to be in 2022 AD. Which is 8,088 days. When we take 8,088 days and subtract 7200 days ( which is 20 years) we have 888 days left. Then subtract 720 days (which is the 2 years) we have 168 days left. Take 168 days (still on true solar cycle of 18 hour 80 minute days, 5 day week, 72 week year) and multiple by 18 hours to get 3024 hours. Divide by 24 hours (because we need to figure the days on current ran calendar) we get 126 days. Now we also must subtract 24 hours or a day from 1/3 of a year passed from the extra time added. Leaving 125 days. So 125 days from January 1st 2022AD is May 5th, 2022AD......which is also the true year 2000, the true y2k. The true end of the Mayan long count and the world. The collatz conjecture is 3x+1÷2 and goes hand in hand with 27/72 vetruvian man. It shows steps for doubling each angle also. Example... 15 degrees takes 17 collatz steps to get to 1, to the 4,2,1 loop. Each angle of degree that you double you just add one step. 60 degrees 18 steps. 120 degrees 19 steps, etc. This holds true for each sequence. It ties in with vetruvian man. If you start at 15 degrees and add 30 degrees each time starting a new column where the number can be doubled all the way up without any other number on that line. Example... 15/30/60/120/240/480 45/90/180/360/720/1440 75/150/300/600/1200/2400 105/210/420/840/1680/3360 40 also happens to go into 1440 minutes (our daily minutes)36 times, which are how many time segments fit into 1440 minutes per day, as follows... Also there are 36 different segments of time in the 1440 min per day. 1 hour @1440 min 2 hours @720 min 3 hours@480 min 4 hours@360 min 5 hours@288 min 6 hours@240 min 8 hours@180 min 9 hours@160 min 10 hours@144 min 12 hours@120 min 15 hours@96 min 16 hours@90 min 18 hours@80 min 20 hours@72 min 24 hours@60 min 30 hours@48 min 32 hours@45 min 36 hours@40 min 40 hours@36 min 45 hours@32 min 48 hours@30 min 60 hours@24 min 72 hours@20 min 80 hours@18 min 90 hours@16 min 96 hours@15 min 120 hours@12 min 144 hours@10 min 160 hours@9 min 180 hours@8 min 240 hours@6 min 288 hours@5 min 360 hours@4 min 480 hours@3 min 720 hours@2 min 1440 hours@1 min These are the different ran clocks all on the same "master clock" so each world has 1440 minutes per day. This proves a building block of life and creationism (God). The lecturers proposition is weak and mostly assumption to things, laws or doctrine that MIGHT not occurred dhrin5the time of Christ.. 1. The Priori of Sion is just a representation which i think you misinterpreted. It is the origin Freemasons that was meant but to avoid it being too obvious, the author chose another griup though its mythical. 2. The church, the catholic, didn't actually see Christ as a Human fully, and if thus scandals werw really true, the damages that it will bring to the church is massive due to the fact that Jesus were viewed as holy and perfect without a sin.. And sex was considered by many as an original sin. One proof of that is that, Priest who is following Jesus' teaching comdemed themselves to marry women to avoid this original sin... 3. You didn't read the novel itself. To understand how Dan Brown depicts the intermarriage of those triangles. Conclusion : While it is true that the boom is questionable, your proposition didn't truly debunked it. And you just understand the code literally while it means another. So John the Beloved was most likely a young, feminine looking man (maybe mid teens but no older than 17yrs old) and maybe Jesus was having a sexual relationship with him. And when Judas found out Jesus was having sex with John he got jealous because he loved Jesus and wanted to be in a sexual relationship with him, so that’s why he sold him out to the high Rabbis in Jerusalem for 30 pieces of silver. And in the end Judas regretted it because he didn’t want to see the love of his life crucified so he killed himself. Just a theory and it’s no more crazy than The Da Vinci Code
