There really is a weird obsession with 'bloating' happening right now! Keep doing the good work of reminding people that the state of our bodies is impermanent. Our bodies are changing constantly throughout the day and **they are supposed to**. Every moment, the state of our body is different than it was the moment before, and none of those moments is inherently better than another (within a normal course of a normal day, obviously). Our flesh goes in and out and up and down, and you can't pinpoint one moment in a day and say, "I want to keep it here." That's as futile as trying to catch air in your hands and keep it forever.

I think it's also worth mentioning that you can "overdose" from water. Our kidneys can handle about 1 L per hour maximum.

Thank you for bringing up the..I'm going to call it the pee issue, okay? I remember that, when I started drinking more water (the right amount, I mean) years ago, I had to go to the bathroom a lot and I was worried that it was going to be like that forever. That definitely wasn't the case: I can attest that, in some obscure ways that I simply cannot explain, your body adapts pretty quickly and soon you won't feel the need to pee every two seconds. I often try to encourage my family and friends to drink a little bit more, but they don't believe me when I tell them that the pee issue will disappear naturally; they just try for two days, realize that they have to go to the bathroom more often and promptly give up altogether. :-/ I feel defeated every time... Totally unrelated, but your grey coat around 9:30 is incredibly cute and looks awesome on you! I was very sorry to hear what happened with the train and everything, that would have stressed me out so much!

Great video! I've always enjoyed drinking water for whatever reason so I don't actually track how much I drink. I do stop in the evening so I'm not up all night going to the bathroom, haha! Also this is random, but was that the White Lotus theme song I heard for a second there?? I'm obsessed! 😃

I remember a supervisor telling me you needed to drink an ounce per pound you weigh, and I was at my heaviest at the time so I thought it sounded insane. She wanted me to drink 152 oz of water a day! That's almost 1.2 gallons! I expressed concerns about too much water being deadly. She took it badly because she saw herself as better than me because she was highly educated (not in medicine or anything health related, mind you) and in a high IQ club. I didn't listen until a doctor told me everyone should drink a gallon a day. I was more willing to take his advice since he was a doctor, but I got headaches at around 100 oz and simply could not. He ended up retiring the same year. So I just listen to my body and am still at my 68-71oz and thriving. I have a better doctor now who approved drinking whatever feels right and gave me special electrolyte instructions for my specific health needs.

Great video! I remember trying the gallon challenge because literally every KZfaqr I watched at the time was doing it. I couldn’t do it lol I’ve leveled out at 72 oz most days. I have a 24 oz cup that I take with me everywhere. I had a 40 oz one but for some reason that seemed too intimidating 🤷🏻‍♀️ and I ended up drinking less… weird.

Also, don’t be afraid of salt, especially if you mostly cook at home!! I have a friend who ended up in the hospital from restricting salt while drinking a gallon a day. 🫠 Most people do not need to restrict salt.

Whenever I drink more water trying to meet an arbitrary number, it always impacts my sleep! Even if I stop drinking anything at like 8pm I’m always waking up to pee. I’d much rather sleep through the night than be over hydrated for no reason. On average I naturally drink 1-1.5 litres and I think that’s enough for me.

I have celiac disease which has all but mostly destroyed my liver. My GI specialist doesn’t mind me doing a water fast every now and then just to give it a break since it does work harder than most people’s. So I do water fasting for 18 hours on occasion. She knows I’ve taken the time to go through health coaching (through IIN) and am also a CPT so I’m willing to give just about anything a shot to feel good. I do feel better. I do sometimes get more energy and a clear mind from fasting, but probably because I’m not digesting food constantly like I normally am 😂. I’ve heard that’s usually why people feel that way but I don’t know how scientifically accurate that is of course. Edited: I get my husband electrolytes in the summer. He’s a Sawyer who works cutting lumber outdoors for 9 hours a day five days a week so summer is brutal. I told him if he didn’t he’d wind up in the hospital from not replenishing everything.

I've worked in a lab with limited access to bathrooms AND water. You had to leave the lab to get water or use the bathroom (which involved a clothing change and took at least 10 minutes). We were scheduled down to the minute so there was rarely time for that. You'd regularly go a full 8 hour day with no food, water, or bathroom break. When I escaped that job, I started working in call centers and they would time your bathroom trips and tell you off if you spent "too much" time in the bathroom (even if you were taking the most calls). So water intake was possible, but had to be carefully planned out.

I have been a heavy water /tea drinker ever since I can remember. I remember in primary school I would have finished my 1 l drink by elevensies and I’d be thirsty after that…most kids didn’t even drink their half a litre all day while I drank twice as much in just a couple of hours… after that I’d fill it up with water but I much preferred tea. Anyhow, I’m an anomaly I’m convinced! 😅 I once checked how much I drink now, and it came out to be 5-6 litres, I think that’s maybe one and half gallon or so. But it varies. Sometimes I drink more, but sometimes I can totally just not drink much - although that’s a conscious effort on my part and that’s when I know I won’t have access to a toilet. I don’t think I have to constantly go to the toilet, but that’s bc I don’t see how many times the average Jane goes, I probably go a lot! When I was hospitalised a couple of years ago, the nurses freaked out at my drinking a whole jug in just 15 mins, and thought sth was wrong, but when they learnt I’m always like that they kept commenting how good that is!🤨 not much logic there is it? Anyhow, just wanted to share my experience bc I always feel like the odd one out with this habit of mine.

I used to be obsessed with drinking water constantly. I recall drinking 600ml with breakfast and then another on my walk to work and then again during my work shift and with my lunch. It just went on. I ended up with a disorder. Now I have a glass with breakfast and a glass as I exercise and besides that just when I need it. You can feel when you need water if you are used to drinking it regularly. There is definitely a difference! (Tea however is another story and I am fairly sure I am solely supporting the continent of asia's tea economy right now)

I used to drink anywhere from 3/4 to 1 gallon of water a day, though on a particularly sweaty day I would even drink up to 1 1/2 gallons. I always have a water bottle near me because it helps me feel less awkward to have something to do with my hands. These days, though, I keep it around the recommended 64 oz unless I have a day where I sweat a lot, and I feel just fine with that amount of water.

In regards to electrolytes, i ran a 28km trail run on the weekend, and in the lead up i was drinking 3 litres of hydralyte a day, and 2 coffee's. Previously when running this race i had trouble with muscle cramps, and i also suffer form atrial flutter. I had no issue with cramps or my heart on the weekend. I have a real issue with people and some so called "nutritionists" who says you need to drink up to 5-6l of water per day. Like seriously? This is not ok at all. You will flush out important electrolytes and vitamins and minerals. So, if somebody says this to me ..... I don't take them seriously because i know better myself. 2-2.5l is just fine for me since i'm trainer and i live on a tropical island.

2:10 Actually women have lower water %, and a healthy amount is 45% to 60% for women. Mine is around 49% and I thought there was something wrong with me since I kept hearing that wrong statistic haha For the energy thing - I completely agree with you but I think this is aimed for people who experience crashes after meals. But obviously, yes there's no reason someone should/needs to water fast.

I tried drinking a gallon of water a day, but I stopped because it made me feel like shit. I wasn't chugging it or anything, I was drinking at a reasonable pace, but I felt TOO full of liquid, I had to pee every ten minutes, and I felt strangely WIRED. I didn't have energy, I was jittery, which was so much worse. I have no idea why that is, maybe my local water supply is full of crack, but it felt AWFUL. The 'more energy' when you're hungry thing is partly (*partly*!) true, it's that 'Empty Stomach Intelligence'. We are more alert when we're hungry but I would guess it was more applicable and useful to our hunter gatherer ancestors who needed to stay alert to find their next meal... not really a long term solution to energy levels!? I'm slowly seeing that a lot of the 'benefits' of fads are nothing more than our bodies in a stress response!
