As an Englishman I have to say I think FIFA needs to change its' rules around eligibility . I think once you are capped by a country even if it is in a friendly you shouldn't be allowed to switch countries.

Probably stating a shitty take but I respectfully disagree, I think the three-cap rule is just fine as it is, it allows players to test out the waters to experience and see if they wanna stay for long term or they change their mind-I understand it is a bit disrespectful though but as long they aren't faking how much they "love" playing for the team and "their country" only to jump ship then I don't think it's disrespectful.

This is a disastrous idea, as big nations would exploit this rule and horde players. Like imagine if France was able to cap players like Mahrez and Koulabali, star players for their countries, with promises to play them but then just dump them after one game and them being unable to play for another country

I half agree. I think if you’re gonna switch countries it can only be for a country that is a lower coefficient/ ranking. That way you could for example switch from England to say Jamaica but not go from Jamaica to England.

That would be not too great. Many players are given a game under a manager that wants him in his team but if the manager is changed then he may not suit his tactics or may have a fight with him. But the player may be doing great at his club and needs international minutes. And Rice was actually born in England. He also only got 3 appearances in the senior team for Ireland. As soon as England came in knocking with regular senior team action he left. That’s actually the fault of Irish FA, to not be able to convince players to stay and play for them.

TPTB try to say he doesn't have Welsh ancestry and was never Cymru eligible, but that's impossible to believe if you know or share his local roots. Afaik he's even still available to select for Wales on Football Manager (though I haven't played in a few years, FM could have changed that now). As a Cymru fan I couldn't care less who the England Skip is, but tbh from an outsider pov and setting aside the Irish controversy, this doesn't seem a bad appointment. Declan seems one of the few young England players who is totally settled with his head screwed on, and with a reasonable IQ. From what little I've seen of him doing press, he's articulate and speaks well despite that atrocious accent. And he shows passion on the pitch without losing his head. Plus he's grown into his looks, not the ugly duckling he was. He seems a fitting and worthy successor to Hendo.
