I love this session because the speaker understands the exact attention span of the user. The moment my mind wanders, the speaker tells that it’s normal but bring it back to the breathing. Love the understanding and the synchronisation with the audiences’ mind. Thankyou.

Don’t give up! I’ve only started meditating for a few months now, and at first it was difficult to focus , but now when he starts asking “if your mind is wandering to bring your attention back” I notice how good my focus is actually getting because my mind didn’t wander the whole 10 minutes! Of course as I go on I’ll try and do 30 minutes eventually an hour, but progress is slow and steady!

Imma go ahead and say, for people with anxiety, meditation is so very healthy for both mind and body. Often times i find myself beating myself up when I look in the mirror or in my head when I'm at social outings. Meditation allows the mind to release and relax helping you to separate yourself from stressful thoughts and view them clearly. This meditation was so peaceful and I plan on coming back here again and again.

i guess there are two things to do to stop overthinking: distraction with something so hard that you cant focus on the overthinking (difficult multiplication, singing a song, saying the alphabet backwards), or meditation. Nothing else works because the first thing i try to do is rationalize with myself. but you can't beat the monkey mind. it's too strong.

@@jamarmartin884 I think it's because you're trying too hard to focus, rather than just breathing and making sure u don't "unfocus" meaning that your mind doesn't drift away. I used to keep saying '"breath in, pause pause pause pause pause, breath out, pause pause pause pause pause" rather than just doing the exercise and getting my focus back on the breathing when it drifts away. The goal is relaxed concentration.

Thank you for this, I am 51 years old doing a career change into IT/Cyber security, studying an online at home program for 6 months (which is mildly agonizing at times). This session has been perfect as the final step in my morning routine to get my brain relaxed and focused to begin studying. I've been watching this video for 2 months now about 5 day a week, 10 mins is the perfect amount of time to focus for me, any longer and my mind starts to fight for distraction.

Doing this I started to realise how shallow my natural breathing is. This made me wonder: does anyone else get more anxious (and even a bit desperate) when doing meditations that require you to focus on your breath? I always get the feeling that I'm suffocating, my heart starts pounding and I start to feel really eager to just stop. I don't know if it's related to the shallow breath thing or if it's my mind playing tricks on me whenever I try to be still, I just know it's absolutely horrid.

I'm so sorry for you! Meditation should actually calm you down, I think you should slow it down a little and don't take this deep breaths when they tell you to do in the meditation - it would maybe help you when you take in the next meditation only one deep breath and as often you practise you can do more breaths when you feel comfortable and your body geta used to it! Also you can do 'meditation travels' where you just have to listen and feel relaxed, there are no breath technices required :)

Meditation, especially such that's supposed to make you feel "calm" and "still" just makes me more jittery and annoyed. So I see how it can make someone anxious :( I don't know how people actually get relaxed with it, it's quite an unpleasant experience

Hello ! this is because your missing the most important concept in meditation: Do not judge!. Focus on what the speaker says without judging, so in your case, you are judging your breath: My breath is shallow, im suffocating, etc. Just feel the breath as it is. One more thing is that the natural breath is shallow. If you do not force your breath, it is very natural to be shallow! :)

Abbabb12 Abb I second that! I know my breathing is not that great , and I have gone down that path of feeling anxious because of my breath. One thing that has helped me is just reminding myself that I am surrendering to the experience, regardless of what I think of it

I have a really hard time staying focused on pretty much anything. I get distracted very easily. As I listened to this session the speaker's voice was calm and soothing. Every time my brain started to wander he somehow sensed it and reminded me to return my focus to my breathing. I come from a very mentally abusive home that constantly fueled me with anger. Listening to the speaker helped me listen to not only my breathing but the pain within me and helped me focus on just that so I could isolate it and then neutralize it. Thank you whoever's the speaker is for helping me out in this session and know I look forward to attending to more in the future.

I prefer the guidance here because the pauses are not so long and I don't have time to get into some of my super fantasies or reviewing the day's most interesting conversations. His voice is calming but not in an artificial way, but rather in a straight forward, realistic way of speaking. He is vocabulary is clear and simple too which I like. Meditation is simple (in theory) but very difficult to sustain and you have to hard work to improve your meditation.

Its amazing how much one can learn with this 10 minutes repeated everyday. Today, I learn when I release focus at the end of the session, my mind rushes back to planning in my head to do this and that, then I realized how I'm constantly thinking about planning or doing something in the future, drifting me away present moment. This means im comstantly in the survival mode rather than relaxed. Now I know why we need to practice meditation consistently to get our minds use to noticing this drift so we can bring it back to present anytime in the day. Personally, I find Declutter The Mind to be the best so far.

Good morning everyone, no matter who reads this one thing is for sure. You're struggling. Don't see it as a sign of weakness, see it as a right of passage. No one learns anything otherwise. Have a good day, wishing you all strength during the pandemic

Hello I will be using this meditation to help my focus firstly let me start by explaining my situation. I’m studying for my igcse’s starting this year (it’s still summer for me) but I lacked motivation and focus while I can manage to motivate myself to start studying I can not keep my focus on for longer then (2-5 minutes) at most which is really frustrating as I student and as you know losing focus means losing the motivation to keep going and going after those small distractions so I decided to meditate in a last attempt to kind of repair my focus BECAUSE I swear it wasn’t this bad this journey has been difficult I tried everything including meditation but I gave up or I didn’t go through with it properly so I gave it another chance I will be doing this for 21 days (amount of days to build a habit)to see how I go, wish me luck ! Day1: I was a bit tired whilst I focused for most of the meditation I got distracted the last minute and 30seconds and went on to write this comment:P

Btw I just noticed I can’t edit comments now but here is the list of the things I tried to attempt to focus on my study’s: 1.stopping social media 2.managing 3 hours on my phone 3. Excercising /doing “dance” As a form of workout 4.horribly attempting yoga 5.deleting and cutting off applications like Netflix KZfaq and phone games 6.doing to do lists for the day and or week( actually I’m still doing this and I think it’s going ok!) 7.set up a work space 8.Read a book , a self help book(I hate reading btw or at-least I think I do) 9. Organizing my room daily because “ your room is what your brain looks like “ 10.journaling (just started I can’t fully judge it yet) 11.waking up early ( by far the best tip to focusing longer , just straight out of bed and off to work not even breakfast) 12.talking through my task (mentally getting through it through speaking it out loud ) 13.blocking sites on my computer using a chrome extension (painful because I would go through a crap ton of settings to watch a KZfaq video) 14. Plomo doro methods (personally not for me) 15. Reward system (honestly I’m not sure if I’m doing it correctly) 16. Lofi music (no) 17. Rain sounds (before a study session sure, during Noooo) 18.librarys (I get work done sure but it’s usually minimal work like 4 hours but only reading two pages from my not so dense text book And writing mediocre notes) 19. Eating healthy ( I think this is a myth how can food help you focus) 20. Meditation (yup lol that’s it I’m still doing it though 😌)

love this session because the speaker understands the exact attention span of the user. The moment my mind wanders, the speaker tells that it’s normal but bring it back to the breathing. Love the understanding and the synchronisation with the audiences’ mind. Thankyou.

I love the pacing. Some guided meditations have us hyperventilating we are breathing so fast. Actually giving me time to do 10 breaths instead of rushing them to keep up makes all the difference

Ah I like that analogy! I might borrow that in a future meditation if you don't mind. Watching traffic go by is a brilliant way to put it.

When he said it's okay if your thoughts are distracting i recognised actually my thoughts were wandering but the way he realised the attention span and said that dont judge as judging is also thinking why am I not able to do it properly and rather than doing that focus on what is controllable of what is in your hand that you should bring your focus back on breathing Amazing experience it was!!!

I like that he has us take a few deep breaths with our eyes open before getting into the session. I usually dive straight in with my eyes closed and sometimes get lost in my mind, but gently easing into it helped me settle in to my practice.

***Update Omg I actually forgot. I've actually made meditation a habit now, my problem is I get bored so I don't use one guided meditation. Do I use other channels like Abide, etc. I mostly do this in the morning, before I open messages or social media. I've had problems with attention for a while now, but once I made meditation a part of my morning routine: * I could control my thoughts more, * I my study intervals went from 30 min to 45 min to an hour, * I haven't had anxiety in a while, also because I stop during the day and for 5 min I pray, put on guided meditate or just breathe. In the evening, I also refocus. Through prayer or guided de-clutter audio. There are days where I don't take some time to meditate... And I can tell the difference. But we always just get onto the wagon when we fall off. I use HabitBull to kick start a new habit. Or to get back on the wagon. It helps you keep track of your 21days and reminds you when you have not.

I've also learnt that being present and mindful when I do something really helps. So sometimes I actually make mental notes of making my bed, folding clothes, I eat without looking through my phone or watching TV. Actually be present when I'm talking to someone. Just minimizing multitasking in my mind and being present helps build focus.
