The Fish Locker

Күн бұрын

Today I fish several offshore locations and shipwrecks in the hope of catching fish for food. Our stores of eating fish are getting low so it's time to restock the freezer. I share the techniques and methods used, share with you how I use and haul my anchor, and explain what is happening as I do it. Every day at sea is a good day, but its better when it ends with some delicious fish to eat.
Don't forget to check out our sister channel ‪@thefishlockerworkshop‬ for helpful reviews and videos.

Evening John. I live and fish the same area as you. Firstly, I agree that kids bring an amazing amount of colds into the house! Secondly, you did the right thing by leaving that wreck. You will never win an argument with someone like that. I love your videos. Just keep fishing and stay away from anchors!

It's so amasing to see a man who respects the world around him, who takes care of nature strongly, who knows tons on info about local nature and still respects the people around him, even if he doesn't like them. A real man of honor who strives to live in harmony with the world abd with the life itself. John you bring peace to my life. Best wishes to the entire Locker family, James, you John, and Hannah, and of course the incredible Jim who taught me many tricks in the kitchen. The world should bless you all. Thank you! If I ever get a chance to visit Cornwall, I will definitely visit Spargo Kitchen and maybe see some of you at low tide.

Hey John, I know this may not reach you but I just want to personally thank you on all your content and the happiness you bring into my life, I first watched one of your videos years ago at my lowest point and from then on I would watch one of your videos and it would be my comfort and safety zone, I am saying this now because just a minute ago a woman very close to me and my family took her life, her daughter is the same age as my little sister and I am just ripped apart inside at the minute and this video has brought me many peace and comfort at this horrible time ... I hope you, your beautiful wife, little james and all your family and friends are healthy, well and happy

Your chanels a lot more popular now, you tube pays, but not a fortune, so, we appreciate you re investing your income. A mate had a boat years ago, we called it the "money pit" . Its an expensive day out. Must take so much planning to make sure you get content, then the edit must take a day... 3 days to make a sunday video? 30+ hours? Keep doing what you do. Looks a good lifestyle if not one that makes you rich.
@TheFishLocker
@TheFishLocker Жыл бұрын
@@scotland.is.magical528 - That is a pretty fair assessment. Some videos are more complex. Underwater ones take more work. A sharking video for example is a 12 hour day on the boat minimum. Add 2 hours either side for prep and cleanup. Using 3 cameras that will take around 3 days or 20 hours to edit. Then there’s proof watching and upload. Plus the hundreds of comments to respond too. And that is per video.

I live 40 miles up river from the sea and guess what? ……. We have had two seals over winter and it will come as no surprise that they both have tags on their flippers (consecutive numbers) from a seal sanctuary that rescued them. The worst part though is that they were “rewilded” 20 miles inland rather than at the coast so which direction did they swim in? Yep…..up river into fresh water. You couldn’t make it up could you.

I won't link it but there's a wikipedia page on wrecks of cornwall, naming as many as possible, tho some are unidentified. U-47 and U-55 were two very prolific U-boats in WW1 and many WW2 wrecks in cornwall were from mines or air bombardments. The earliest known wreck in Cornwall was reported in 1284 when 2 lives were lost at Kelynack, near St.Just. The first named wreck was a Spanish cargo ship known as the La Maudeleyne which stranded in (supposedly) in Mounts Bay and has become a scheduled ancient monument.

I was a friend of the founder of the Gweek Seal Sanctuary, Ken Jones, I'm going back over 40 years, I never ever considered the spin you put on this, absolutely bang on, we humans are guilty of trying to fix things that are not broken, well...! at over 70, by quite a bit I have learned something new dispelling the adage... you cant teach an old dog new tricks...! you just have....Oh and the incursion of the other boat... in future say you know someone who fished these waters over 60 years ago...so don't act like a twat...! Hello John, Another great video, I really enjoy watching all your videos and learning. I am a novice at fishing having only returned to the hobby last year. Please could you explain more about the issues with the other boat so I and others can avoid the same mistakes - the first two points you made about 1. Steaming close and washing you off the wreck and 2. Steaming over the wreck and scaring the fish make sense to me, these both seem like stupid things to do. However I do not understand your 3rd point though 3. Don't fish with lures on small neap tides. You tried to explain this in the video but I do not understand your point. Please could you go into more detail about why this is wrong to do and how it affected you/the other boat?
@carlos777uk
@carlos777uk Жыл бұрын
Glad you asked this as I was about to do the same! Hopefully we'll get an answer. He did sort of explain it later in the video: that neap tides you drift with bait. But no specific explanation as to why.
@TheFishLocker
@TheFishLocker Жыл бұрын
I have explained the principle many times in other videos - usually lure fishing ones. Predator fish take energy from the water around them. They feed when the tide is flowing. So lure fishing for them is far improved when the tide is flowing stronger. Neap tides are when the tide is running slowest. Also, using long booms and traces when the tide is slack causes unending tangles as there is no tide to keep the trace out straight.

Your patience and maturity are exemplary, John, and I salute you, Sir! I am no fighter, but I am hot headed, and KNOWING you'd been mugged off by idiots would likely have lit my fuse. Pay heed, THIS is how real men deal with idiots. Lowering yourself to their level makes you nothing more than another idiot!

Similar problem in Hawaii where the shark cage tour companies go to the FADs and chum to bring as many sharks in as possible. Over time they have linked the sound of boat engines to food, so when sportfishing boats troll near the FADs it's common to lose fish to sharks. Much more than it was a decade ago.

Hi John, Great post and iv learned a little more on seals🧐 got some good fillets off that fish bud, a good freezer topper. I could see that the plant pot in the passing boat really rattled your cage mate and I can understand your frustration as iv had similar happen to me by a couple of boy racers of the sea. It is annoying I agree. Picked a great day to go out with nice weather and nice catch on christening the new rod. Great video, Thanks John 🤝🇬🇧🦞

Funny story about the guys that have been fishing (or spinning the yarn) for years. I live pretty much the furthest from the coast you can in England, do quite a bit of coarse fishing though! Maybe once a year I nip to the Yorkshire coast and have a day charter fishing on a small break. Everything I know about offshore fishing comes from you, Graham from TAF and bits and bobs from other channels. So last year I booked a 6 hour charter and set off. On the boat I noticed a few nods and winks between 2 local guys (who seemed to be well acquainted) and the skipper! Turns out these 2 were regulars and often got to fish for free as they helped the skipper with the 'dumb tourists'. I found out at the end of the trip and on the way home when they started shaking my hands and saying " sorry pal we had you all wrong". That due to my shorts pale legs and typical tourist look I admit I had, that they had had a bet (turns out they do it regular) that I was a sure thing for seasick/hooking myself or others/losing the most tackle or asking them to unhook a fish. I caught not only the biggest (cod) but also the most fish on the boat! (I know luck probably played a part) and as the so called 'veteran of 20 years' pulled up his 5th wrasse and I looked and said " that's a ballen wrasse right"? He said "maybe not" to which I replied "peacock then" his face was a picture and when we got back on land he was like " your pulling my pisser you do this fishing regular"? I was like "Nah just watch Fishlocker and TAF" haha 😂 sorry for the wall of text but it made my day!

I am a fisherman kayaker, and that's one of biggest peeves people getting really close to me and making a wake. So I basically need to stop what I am doing and turn my bow into in to the wake or risk flipping over. People have no common sense of space like I am happy to share my spot if you respect me. There are some that are pretty cool. Once one time i was tired fighting the wind and boater towed me to shore.
