Defender Rear Door Table Installation

I've installed a rear door fold down table in my Defender to give me somewhere to prepare meals while travelling. I used 2.5mm and 3mm aluminium sheet to create a sturdy kitchen bench.

Thanks for the video mate. There are many little extras that make camping just that much more enjoyable. The rear door table though would have to be right up there with the best. A small investment for a huge return.

Hey thanks for the article and the drawing details. Made my own panel based on your dimensions though had to reduce by a couple of mm's all round to make a nice fit, used 3mm ply which I'll cover to match the interior. Much appreciated and saved me a bunch of cash!

every time bret, great video, my rear table set up is quite similar, but ive recessed the stove into the table and fabricated a cover for it so when its not in use i dont lose table space, cheers for the vid mate,

+Ed Willcox Don't think anyone makes them.. Just jump on my website and use my measurements (recheck with your door) and have your own made up. Cost me $100 to have the aluminium cut to shape. The rest was a trip to the hardware store. Thanks

Does anyone know any movies, programmes, documentaries... About expeditions and exploring? Desert,rainforest, mountain... Anything, if it includes defenders better still haha

Great idea, will those plans be the same for the Td5 I wonder, I would be also temped to dampen the rattling by insulating the inside of the panel or putting some rubber gasket around it! Have you ever thought about using the space underneath the side body in front of the rear wheels as storage, I know you can buy Jerry can lockers that fit there but they are limited, if you could instead make an access panel from the top & then just install a false bottom using the existing bodywork it would provide a huge amount of secure storage for non everyday items like tools. I intent to do when it warms up a bit here in Blighty, I should also make a video too.

Btw, in the UK we have a product called Alu-panel, it's a laminated material, it would be great for what I suggest & what you have done, but you can cut it yourself with a jig saw or circular saw, easy peasy.

Not sure with a TD5 but the measurements are all on my website so easy to cross check. Did think about installing an exterior locker but ready made ones are about $700. Custom built ones cheaper... just didn't get around to it in the end.
