That Hornady leverevolution round advertises they’re velocity’s as you would get from a 6” barrel. When tested out of a 16” barrel they actually get closer to 1800fps and over 1000ft lbs of energy. Tools&Targets tested this and has a video over it if you want to check it out. I don’t understand why they would advertise revolver length ballistics for a round specifically designed with rifles in mind but that’s what they did. 🤷🏼‍♂️ Edit: sorry I just noticed the comment below that already explained this.

I’m waiting on someone to make a video comparing a 357 out of a lever action compared to 9mm out of a 16 inch PCC and a 16 inch 300 black out.

Between this and the previous video I may have to buy a new Ruger made Marlin 1894 in .357 as a straight wall hunting rifle for eastern and Midwest deer.

for the 357 & 44mag, I think you are using the lower revolver velocity not the increased carbine velocity. And thanks, very good info in this series.

The .44 was the pistol velocity. And I just checked, had to dig for it, and the .357 was too. I felt certain that the .357 would be a rifle velocity since it was designed for use in a lever action rifle, but they did an 8" test barrel...lol Thanks!

I don’t think the 30/30 deflected on the bone hit. More likely the bone blew apart and caused an additional wound Chanel. Just my thoughts. Bones can kill awesome!

I feel like the advertised speed of those 357 rounds is from a revolver. A 140g projectile should be hitting at least 1700-1800fps from a rifle considering 125g loads can break 2000fps.

Would have been interesting to test the 30-30 with a 150 grain power-point. I am speculating it would not have deflected but gone straight through the bone.

lever guns ain't kool. Need one of those black rifles. lol Good to see someone give the lever guns some love. I have a Marlin 1895 in 45/70 I've been shooting for years. Great rifle.

Very nice rifles. The forearm rails are ,meh but I actually like having that light attached. Those ammo caddies though are to be avoided in the bush. Awful inventions if you ask me. Anything with an edge sticking up will ultimately get tangled up in brush like alders and you might lose ammo. That little 44mag is about a perfect hunting rifle and for deer it's stellar.

We are shooting downhill into a roughly 50’ tall embankment just behind the trees. We’ve not had a chance to clear everything out yet.

With no disrespect to Hornady, curious to see what a premium .357 load like Underwood bonded hp hunting ammo would do. Their 158 and 125 grain loads would be pushing 1700 and 1900 fps respectively out of a rifle barrel. Serious thump for that size.

Don’t waste your time last time I ordered and been years never recieved it and they are out I’d try underwood and probably less money too
