Agreed for JT and Liberty (my favorite couple). Yes, they were a little toxic sometimes, but I feel like what they needed to work out is sitting down and having a serious talk about their relationship and their baby, which they probably would've done if JT was not stabbed. They definitly would've been endgame otherwise.

I think you should rank Degrassi best friends ex. Emma and Manny, Ashley and Terri, Jimmy and Spinner etc. And I also think you should do degrassi non-canon list as well. Favorite non-canon/couples that weren't couples. My favorite is Terri and Spinner. To me they are so cute and so endgame. I think some examples are Craig and Ellie, Toby and Emma, Ellie and Jimmy, Craig and Marco etc.

am i the only one who didnt think that paige and alex were hypersexualized? sure there was that dancing scene but other than that they were a pretty good couple and paige helped alex be a better person

I don’t remember it really either. I’m not doubting it happened but the only scene I remember that comes close is the very scene mentioned in this video. Even that was a bit egregious though, in fairness. It maybe wasn’t too surprising at the time it came out.

I just binged the show in rapid succession. They were hypersexualized. Not by the show themselves but by the people around them. Same with Imogen and Fiona. They never addressed the hypersexualization as homophobia either because hypersexualization comes from the fact that people don’t see lesbians as ‘real.’

I think spinner and Emma’s relationship is mentioned again and one of the last season of Degrassi when they have a reunion spinner is like “I just got a mortgage with Emma and have to pay it”. Like they’re trying to compare him as being old and responsible even though his character is maybe 25? But ya they do stay together in this universe

JT and Liberty will always have my heart. Paige and Alex were a couple I really hoped would work out. I honestly thought that they had outstanding chemistry together and I really loved Alex, one of the most multidimensional Degrassi characters in my opinion. It became apparent though that the writers didn't know what to do with this couple and it became tiresome that they kept playing out the same scenarios. They didn't get the justice they deserved. Watching Degrassi High in the 80s - I didn't really like Joey and Caitlin that much back then, but loved them getting back together in TNG and wish they were written as end game. Spike was actually the one who had a crush on Snake back in High School, and he was going to go to a dance with her but bailed to go with his crush. At the beginning of that episode, she is daydreaming about them being together and him playing with a then-baby Emma as if she were his own child. It's really sweet how they end up as such a strong couple and amazing parents to Emma later on.

So in Degrassi High, there was one episode, the 2nd to last episode of the entire series (not counting the TV Movie Schools Out) where it showed that Spike had a crush on Snake, so she asked him to the dance, but Snake was more interested in a girl named Michelle, so she makes up a lie saying "I have a family commitment so I can't go" allowing him to go with the other girl. That's really the only time the two of them interact in the original series. It's enough to make it so that their relationship in Degrassi The Next Generation not be COMPLETELY out of nowhere, but most of their relationship comes from the follow up show rather than the original

YES to joey and caitlin! you should def look at degrassi junior high (spike/snake/joey/caitlin/etc) because they have some interesting storylines that kinda intersect with dtng. it's one of my favorite teenage series!

Spin and Darcy got together because it was when spinner came back to school after the shooting. His friends all hated him and Darcy was one of the only people who was nice to him and got him to join friendship club too

You know, I keep hearing that they are a big fan favorite! I’ve kinda of been avoiding watching past season 7 just cause I aged out with the older class but I think for research purposes, I’ll have to venture into the later seasons 💜 I think my next degrassi vid will have to be about that

Great video. Paige and Alex, Sean and Emma, and Spinner and Jane are my non-canon endgames from this list. I think the writers did these couples so dirty. They kind of wrecked Alex and Jane's characters to break up those ships imo. And Emma and Sean's breakup made sense since he was going off to join the army. But I really wish that he came back and they rekindled their romance. In my mind, all these couples found their way back to each other.

I think the writers really dropped the ball when it comes to Alex and Paige's relationship and Alex's characters in general in the end, but I don't agree that their relationship was oversexualized. Apart from that one scene that kinda kicked it off, that you mentioned, the rest of their rs wasn't particularly sexualized imo? So i don't really think it's fair to say that their whole relationship was and was only about that. Idk, just my opinion.

Hugely unpopular opinion: Craig & Ashley were endgame for me. Although toxic, I always felt like they should've worked out at the end, they were the only Degrassi couple who really shared a passion (music) that bonded them together. And while Craig never really treated any of his gfs too well, I always felt he easily loved Ashley the most. It annoyed me they didn't end up together.

My favourite couples are ellie and Sean and spinner and paige. The reasons for this was because these relationships felt more real and they had ups and downs. Other relationships in the show like Peter and darcy were fake and cringy.

Love. Love. Love this video! Started rewatching Degrassi again and forgot how messy all these relationships are. I just can't stand Ashley...her character always gave me a headache even now as a adult-especially her relationship storylines. Still want Emma and Sean as endgame though, and I really liked Hazel and Jimmy too. I feel like the show did us dirty with putting Emma and Spinner together. More rankings! You are such a babe! ❤️

Correction on Spike and Snake’s relationship, I’m a big degrassi classic fan. Spike was the one who had a crush on Snake, but at the time he had a crush on a girl called Michelle, none of those crushes became anything at that time.

As toxic as Cranny was and Manny deserves so much more than what Craig did to her in season 3, I feel like season-5 Craig was a better match for Manny. I think season-2 Craig deserves to be with seasons 3-4 Manny, just got together at the wrong time. Semma was endgame to me, but looking at Sean and Ellie, they were kinda cute. Emma and Peter should have never got together. JT and Liberty were cute, I really like them. Though Jazel was the most healthy and Hazel was a great girlfriend, Jimmy's relationship with Ashley was more interesting

Im still stuck on the fact spinner and Darcy got put in dumpster fire. I balled my eyes out when they broke up, because all though Darcy was not a very nice person, she opened up a light at the end of the tunnel for spinner when jimmy hated him bc of the shooting, I remember spinner being super depressed because he lost ALL his friends in the matter of TWO episodes, but Darcy put his mind to 'Jesus' and allowed him to accept the reality for a bit. I will say spinner and Darcy is not my favorite couple, my favorite couple is either Emma & Sean bc its just the cutest most og couple ever, or jt and liberty because they were elite, and I cried so hard when watching jt's funeral.

Ugh, I totally agree about Craig and Ellie, I wanted them to be together so bad. Even if it's partially because Ellie was the character I related to the most from the earlier seasons and I had a crush on Craig 😅 Also, small correction that a lot of people get confused about: "trauma bonding" is different from bonding *over* having similar trauma. Trauma bonding refers to the strong bonding that occurs through going through trauma *together* (which can obv be very toxic, especially in situations of abuse as it makes it much harder to leave). But bonding over, say, both having childhood trauma isn't actually "trauma bonding" and isn't inherently toxic 😊 (though of course, it can become toxic if both people aren't healed enough or if they trigger each other).

Personally, my favorite couples were Sean and Emma, Craig and Manny, Ashley and Craig, and I shipped Ellie and Craig so hard! Ugh, and I was so excited for Liberty to finally get her man and then tragedy struck right afterwards 😭😭😭😭😭😭 If you were going into later seasons I would've for sure put Eli and Claire in the dumpster fire category!

I have watched a handful of episodes from the seasons after 7 cause I actually really enjoyed following Claire’s storyline regarding the cancer diagnosis and the Adam storyline that I thought was pretty groundbreaking breaking for the time…I don’t know much about Eli and Claire as a couple but I would be interested to try watching those later seasons to check it out 👌🏾

I like Spinner and Emma because it’s so bizarre. Lol I know it’s an uncommon opinion and i do agree it kind of came out of nowhere but... I think it’s cute? 😂 I don’t like Emma as a character. But I think maybe she would lighten up a bit with Spinner.

True, Emma was really polarizing in the beginning and I did see more softness between her and Spin, but the chemistry was weird for me…would watch if they did a spin-off with them - just for the drama of it all lol

I’ve gotten about halfway through season 8 - I don’t think I’ll be covering the other seasons though. I have gone back and forth on this and while I don’t hate the proceeding seasons, I won’t have the connection like the audience does since I’m watching this as an adult instead of the adolescent that I was during seasons 1-7. So I’m not sure I’ll share the same sentiments and I don’t wanna butcher those seasons for fans. I might though…we shall see after the strike ends.

Spike liked Snake and they were supposed to go to a dance together as friends. Snake never knew that Spike liked him romantically and ended up going to the dance with another girl.

JIBERTY 💔 the real pure love of degrassi. also I loved Darcy and Spinner. They were cute together and she came into his life when everyone left. For a while, she was like his angel. Shanae Grimes is stunning, her, Nicole Kidman and Halle berry made me gay . I'm biased lol I think we all wanted Emma and Sean to be together. But reality is Emma and spinner relationships do happen and it ends up for the best. So I'm ok with both relationships really I agree about Craig and Ellie they had chemistry I always wanted Marco to have another relationship story. Just never saw that much chemistry with Dylan idk. Emma dating Peter would be friendship ending for a lot of people. You don't date the guy who exploited your lifelong best friend. The whole relationship seemed icky and fake. OK I'm done now lol. Oh and loved Paige and Alex while it lasted .
