For what it's worth, Transient Response is not the term you're looking for in the context you used it. Transient response is how quickly the mic responds to rapid shifts in volume (ie, transients) like drum hits, plosives or gunshots. You're speaking about off-axis response. The mic does sound nice, though.

Thank You @Chris Conlee for the clarification!

Sennheiser MKH 8060 is better. For professional work, where you HAVE to get the recording right or risk losing thousands to hundreds of thousands of dollars in a reshoot, there is no option but to use the best equipment possible even if best means only a slight improvement over the competition. The equipment costs far less than the money you stand to lose. It is like surgery - you have to do it PERFECTLY the first time. When you aren't risking thousands of dollars of someone else's money or your job, the Deity sounds really good.

I've been using the S-Mic 2 for the last year or so. It's great and I'll never get rid of it. Last week I ordered the 8060, the lower noise floor and more forgiving off-axis response are a huge bonus for narrative and run-and-gun shoots which are the two most common for me. It'll obviously work for sit down interviews as well, at least until I get a good cardioid for that, maybe the MKH50 or 8050.

How has the 8060 worked out for you 1 year later?

I don't know why so many mic reviewers refer to room tone as self noise. That's not self noise. That's the noise in your room, and you're just adding the sensitivity of the mic to the frequencies present in your room, to the actual self noise. Self noise can only be tested with a special mic capsule (on mics with interchangeable capsules) or in an ultra-silent anechoic chamber.

hiss is not part of room tone though...

@@carlosq00 "hiss" is a part of literally everything you record. Including room tone. You (and to be fair, most other microphone reviewers) were recording room tone in addition to the hiss of your signal chain.

Just needs a high pass to get rid of the room rumble noises. Then we can hear the mic hiss in isolation

The self noise was slightly a bit better with the 8060 and it has more higher range detail, but I also like the natural sound character of the S-Mic2.

Thanks for any helpful information shared ^^ I have been using the Sanken CS-3e for a while (especially for noisy exteriors - Documentary) and the small Sanken CS-m1. I'm just wondering if it's not also suitable to have another microphone that can be placed in between (with a somewhat forgiving rejection). I thought of the following microphones: Sennheiser MKH8060, MKH50, MKH40, DPA4017? Kindly do you have some advice or suggestions?

I'm flabbergasted. I do YT on a different channel, I've been wanting to upgrade my mic solution and I've been looking into finally trying shotgun mics. I was gonna go Sennheiser and sure, I see the difference here but the edge is ever so slight, the price difference doesn't reflect the difference. I'd understand if I was shooting a movie but for YT prod, with a bit of cleaning up the noise floor level in post? I think the Deity will be the way to go after all
