"LOVELY"!!!I I'm 71, still ride and do all my own maintenance. What I like about your videos is you tell what size tool to use and torque settings so I don't have to guess at it. I also like the fact that you are very detailed in your procedures, Thanks for all your great videos!!!!!

Another fantastic video. Copper slip the plugs - I do the too. Good to see it. I liked the bent wire gauge you made for primary chain adjustment in a different video. Seems a bit more accurate (maybe I a bit fussy like that). Palm the plugs - agin 👍. You are a total star. 👍🤜

Another enjoyable video. I appreciate the little comments you make along the way like looking for the small white chips in the primary oil and the use of anti-seize on the spark plugs and how the crush washers work. When I change plugs, and I do it often, I always set them to the minimum gap. I know that in a very short time the gap will open up. Also, the suggestion to use new plugs is a great one. I actually change to new plugs any time I remove a plug or reach a 10K service interval. I really enjoy and appreciate how you use the video camera to focus in on the subject area. The picture is well lit and easy to see. Audio level is great too. Thanks.

I put auto-adjuster tensioner on my 03' fxdx Dyna, an I'm changing it back to manual adjustment because auto wants to ratchet tight an won't release tension an engine getting clunking noise on startup! I'm with you trying to get all old oils from motor. I heard a solftail method. (It takes 22 RPMs to cycle oil. Add new oil, then rotate motor 11 RPMs(that gets fresh oil too filter), now change to new filter! Then remove inlet oil tube on soft tail oil tank (tube closest to outside)! Put oil capture container on oil inlet tube you just removed! Then rotate motor 11 rpms to remove old oil now from filter to oil tank! Reconnect oil tank inlet tube! An your done, an have removed old oil from system! Cool!
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Tim, good call on the tensioner, the automatic ones are a problem and it doesn't take 5mins to adjust it once every 5k (and often you don't even need to!)... and am not sure if you watched my video and were reading it back to me, but we did actually make a detailed video of the Softail oil purge process exactly as you describe! It's something the dealers won't do unless you ask them to, but it does work... swop the oil, stick the return tube in a jug, 10 pumps up to the filter, change the filter, and then 10 pumps and it'll run clear... then chuck the hose back in the tank and top up... do this and you'll also find your oil stays cleaner for longer... good call mate!

Love your channel, I used your vid to help w/adjusting my clutch & clutch cable (I do have the service Manual) & it was very easy to do. My primary chain hasn't been adjusted in quite a while. I noticed you have the bike up on a jack & stated you put it in 4th gear to rotate to tight spot in chain. My Service Manual(PN#99482-03 Page# 1-25) does not say to do that, all it says is have bike upright & level @ tightest point in chain. This is why your vids are so important you describe important points that the Manual leaves out. Thanks for doing what you do, it's very cool. P.S. I 'am going to look @ your vid on changing the Brake fluid next & read the manual to, to see how close it is w/you.

It was probably adjusted by someone who did not bother to spin it round and find the tightest spot... they probably adjusted it in the loosest spot, then when you roll round to the tight spot, it ends up too tight... also, this chain does not wear like a final drive chain and become 'longer', that would take, maybe, 100,000 miles, or more!

Hi Del, first time viewer. Very informative. I have an 07 Softail with just the dimple on the case. Absolutely admirable that you mentioned, this style has an auto tensioner. My HD has 38k miles; is it time for a new tensioner? Thank you brother.
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you and welcome aboard Sir, the intention the factory had in making the auto tensioner was that it was maintenance free forever, but of course we all know there's no such thing... check your primary oil for signs of debris, there will always be some and it should be a dull grey colour if it's done 5k miles, but any big bits in it could indicate that a proper internal look inside the primary is overdue... bit of a pain I know, but better than a tensioner breaking up and causing more problems! 38k isn't high mileage, so just keep an eye on your oil.

Same basic principles Sam, but the specs will be slightly different here and there so get a genuine HD manual to make sure you get all the settings right..!

Hey brother Del and Penny,hope is well! great video, as always. Another one I used to my benefit, for that, I thank you !Just was curious, why they made my 15 th anniv and yours, which is the same year(2005).one with the huge gold badge and yours, with just a decal??

Hi buddy.. most welcome on the video... im glad it could help ypou... With the 15th Anniversary model Fatboys.. there were two, mine was the regular "cooking" version, just a regular ordinary fatboy, accept the tank decal that has 15th Anniv depicted on it... and yours, the "Gold Badged" model was the true limited edition bike... it has the gold plated logo, (apparently real 24 carat gold plated), and the motor is 1550cc, and not the regular 1450... they didn't sell many, so if you have one, look after i buddy.!

another great video. I performed a clutch adjustment on a 1997 Springer Bad Boy and it certainly improved things but I noticed the bike is very difficult to get into neutral. There are times where it slips into N with no effort, you can feel a nice click and there are times where it just will not go. I also have a 2023 fatboy that does exact same thing. In fact, the fatboy is worst than the springer and wondering what this is all about. The new fatboy I would think would be less of an issue straight from the factory and being new and all but if you have any thoughts on why this happens and how to fix, would appreciate.

I can't diagnose this kind of thing without seeing it, but immediate thoughts, on the new bike, let it run in first, it's well known that Harley's take a good 10k miles to properly loosen up and everything be fluid... and with the older bike, perhaps change the primary oil for a fully synthetic if the plates are sticking together that can cause such problems.

Hi Ted, great to hear from you again, long time no chat, it seems that it's many years since we did the podcast, hope you and the guys are well, did you ever catch up with Woody?! Cool beans on the Harley, classic Anniversary FatBoy, a timeless model, I changed it a while ago, don't we always wish we had the money to keep them, but one always goes to fund the next I guess!

The only people that would complain about you putting "copper slip?" (we call it "anti-seize"where I'm from.. I like the aluminized version) are people that don't know what they're doing. Steel Spark plugs in an aluminum head left too long, can seize in and become a real problem!
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 5 жыл бұрын
I think the mis conception perhaps with some people is done deliberately (to give them an excuse to criticise) is that copper-slip is a lubricant, when it firmly is not... perhaps it would be better if over here we called it anti-seize, which is actually what it is in the first place aye Gurn?!
