Did a quick video using my GoPro with my tuned/deleted and 2.5" straight pipe V10 TDI under load while driving. Did some hard pulls as well as a timed 0-60 while pulling 5K pounds.

Trying to make me jealous and spoil my day? I guess. It works. Mark's here.

Yeah it works quite well. Took it to BC the first couple weeks of August and it worked great other then the one height sensor arm breaking. Nothing some zip ties couldn’t fix though.

That last run sounded so good. Boy have your videos made me want a v10

It’s been a lot of fun, the exhaust isn’t quite done yet, it’s got 3” piping waiting in the garage to go from the rear axle back.

I never knew these were a thing, and I'm a huge diesel guy. I need one of these in my life.

They definitely catch people of guard. They're a nice smooth ride with lots of torque.

@@JoshsJettas How reliable though? A V10 VW diesel SUV doesn't strike me as the most reliable thing in the world.
@JoshsJettas2 жыл бұрын
@@MrGLADIATOR5100 they’ve got their ups and downs. Starter/turbos/power steering pump/ac compressor all require engine out to service (not unlike modern 3/4 ton pick ups.) They also have cam wear issues same as all 4 cyl. PD TDI’s. My green one in this video has been bullet proof since I did deletes and cams 50k ago. My beige one is at 354k and has every receipt since new, in 17 years/354k it’s had 1 turbo, a trans valve body, a oil cooler then just the normal maintenance stuff. They aren’t overly unreliable but requires some labour for repairs and they aren’t common so the repair parts aren’t either.
@MrGLADIATOR51002 жыл бұрын
@@JoshsJettas Wow, that's actually much better than I was expecting. The beige one sounds like a tank, congrats on the 350k! I just bought a Jeep Liberty diesel, maybe one of these beautys will be next! They definitely fit the profile I usually go for in diesels; older, sounds cool, semi-reliable, and rare lol.

Curious on what you used for piping? This is the best sounding straight piped v10 I've heard!
@JoshsJettas Жыл бұрын
I used 2.5" mandrel bends from turbos back to the oem connection just behind the trans mount. Then its cut just behind the rear axle where it would've gone into the muffler. I plan on 3" piping from the rear axle back to the oem tips just haven't gotten that far yet.

Was it only the european models that had paddle shifters as an option in the v10?
@JoshsJettas2 жыл бұрын
I believe so, any I’ve been in over here haven’t had them. Just the console “manual” shift.
@AJNpa802 жыл бұрын
Did any of the v10 years have a true 4wd 2 speed transfer case available and a manual transmission? Been googling around without much luck. Or just the 1st 2 without the manual even, they have their patented names for 4wd which might have had their definition changed, seemed to be different by year and model and often seem to be just AWD with the googling I did. Got a bit mixed up, figured someone might know off hand and save me some searching.
@JoshsJettas2 жыл бұрын
The v10 came with autos only, but had 4Xmotion which is true Awd with high/low ranges and a center locking diff. Some came with rear locking diffs as well depending on how it was ordered. I believe some gas touaregs came with manual transmissions but they're quite rare.

Thanks for the response

The trans is an Asian transmission so in theory there may be a Toyota Landcruiser manual that can be converted to the transfer case. The transfer case looks great designs so maybe nissan gtr r34 could be adapted. But the trick will be to dumb down the smartest kid in the class with out a tech tantrums. I believe Motec ECU have started aftermarket common rail diesel programable ecu . I own 2 v10 TOUAREG s both 04 Ayh s and contemplating the conversion for one of them, to be the work horse

@@petergracemeguide1280 i hadn’t thought of the Toyota compatibility, these would be pretty cool with a manual. As far as the ecu I’ve done some fundamental tuning training and they used the motec Cr ecu for the workable example because of the ease of use, looked really nice and could be edited live. But I’m not sure if they’ll come out with a pd compatible version, I’m not sure if there’s a huge market. The 2.5L came with manuals did they not? I’d be curious if the stock ecus could be edited with info from the 2.5L, I know Malone did something similar with the BHW ecus as they were auto only and people were swapping to manuals.

@@petergracemeguide1280 from what I could find the VW has the Aisin TR-60SN codenamed 09D. It's from Wikipedia however it only mentions the Landcruiser 300 series which was the Aisin AWR10L65 which is a 10 speed. However that in mind seems pretty cool, 10 gears to match ten cylinders. I'd imagine the pulls you could get would be insane

I’ve towed this Jetta and another Touareg, my worst fuel consumption was with an empty trailer with the ramps up. It’ll usually drop a couple mpg.

Yeah still shuddering a bit though, it is getting better though. The alternator cable was melted and bare wire 3-4” from the alternator, glad nothing shorted out (my truck caught on fire because of that).
