The last 2 years Delius has become my favorite composer. My whole musical life was directing choirs, singing and teaching voice lessons. At 71, I now prefer orchestral music. I always loved singing French Impressionistic. To me, Delius is so rich, full and it speaks to my very soul. Makes me so nostalgic.

Hi Bob, Just lovely music. Talking of CFP, I have purchased a number of records from dealers and they are always a few pounds cheaper than main labels but for the most part they have been great recordings. I have a Sibelius recording , Symphony No.2 with the Scottish National Orchestra and Alexander Gibson. It's magical and my go too recording.😊

Hi Nigel. yes CfPs are mostly excellent. I always thought I had that Gibson Sibelius 2 but tried to find it a while back - I either totally mis-filed it, gave it away (unlikely!), lost it (possibly) or never had it in the first place!

Classic For Pleasure was mostly a budget reissue label owned by EMI, but their original recordings engineered by Mr Bear (Mike Clements), like this one, are generally excellent.

Yes indeed! They were a good source for cheap reissues of classic HMV and Columbia recordings and when they started making new recordings the quality was well up to their parent label.

Following your channel is akin to re-living my record-buying past, so many of your uploads are those which I purchased years (decades even) ago. I had a fondness for CFP because, invariably, the quality (both in terms of performance and in engineering) was of a very high standard and they were very cheap to buy. I loved this release (together with another CfP Delius issue) - Handley had a great affinity for Delius. Another great upload

Thanks for your comments, as usual. You must be thinking of the "Cuckoo" sleeve! My copy of this is pretty noisy which no amount of cleaning can improve on. But the engineering of their new recordings was always good, and they picked some choice recordings from the EMI back catalogue too.

Indeed, that's the recording. Yes, CfP was a godsend for me in the days when my ability to buy LPs was not quite so healthy. Some releases have stood the test of time and can still hold their own against more recent recordings (for example, The Tallis Scholars' version of Allegri's "Miserere") - that Mr Bear chap was a sonic genius!

@@tonyobadinage6647 Mr Bear was an alias of Mike Clements. And yes for a hard-up record collector CfP were a godsend. They didn't have the aura of a major label but the product was equally as good!
