My sister was house cleaning and she found an old 15 5000 touchscreen with a 8th generation i7 in it. She'd hardly used it as her job supplied laptop is updated annually. It has a H10 Intel Optane 256+16 m.2. I put windows 11 on it and it goes well. Glad I know what's to look out for and how to dismantle it. I have two desktop computers. One an old HP Z840 and the other even older Dell Optiplex 9020. I strip these down now and then for cleaning 🧹. So, I'll do the same with this Inspiron.

Great review can i ask did you find any colour wash out with this having the anti glare coating, just been reading different types of screens, ill be doing a bit of photo editing for me dads website, do you find the pictures photos to be of hi quality cheers

*What Have They Done!* - On paper, this sounds like Everybody's Ultimate Dream Laptop, until you use it & discover how ordinary it is. I don't know whether it's the OS or just me, but for the *Spec & Price,* I would expect a bit more Ooooomph, which is sadly, very lacking. You know there is a problem, when even your 8 year old Inspiron, with Windows Vista, outperforms this wondrous piece of technology.

If people don't understand the difference between this laptop and a similar spec one costing even just a little bit more, it's because this one is basically a short term disposable item that will fail after a couple of years due to dust in the fan or a multitude of other trivial reasons, with no easy way for the user to clean it (it contains malicious design where when you remove the fan, the power button cable is taped to the back and will become disconnected requiring a lot of work with exactly the right tools to reconnect, with extreme care needed to avoid destroying the wifi antennas and wifi board). Corners have been cut in every area, the screen is not IPS so looks poor, the thermal design is appalling resulting in throttling and slow speed despite the specs looking ok on paper, the ethernet port relies on a small bit of plastic that will break if used regularly (though in reality you'll need a USB dongle as it's only 100 Mbps as you say) and the hinges are structurally held by the plastic panel on the back so even just one slightly loose screw can result in critical failure. This sort of laptop is exactly the reason people recommend spending just a few pounds more (or sometimes even less) on a Thinkpad or Mac.

+ThatsSid. So far so good performance is very good for that price. Regarding the back lit keyboard I wasn't too bothered. What I was disappointed by was the fact it didn't have a gigabit ethernet connection as my home network supports gigabit connectivity so quick transfers to my server.

But there might have option about backlight option ? Did John Lewis Website told you about the option ? Did you researched about this specific product before ? How about th color ? Whats perfect blue, black or grey ?? Theres no product now (DELL 5567 ) in John Lewis website now.

Great review, I hesitate between this one and xiaomi notebook pro (15.6 FHD screen 16gb ram and i7 8th gen, ssd as well), the only issue about the xiaomi notebook for me is the soldered ram, for this one, it is great but we are in 2018 (almost) and still have dvd drive, why ? any ideas to help me make choice ?

Thats really strange you must have installed something that's causing that. Perhaps see if you can roll back Windows to a stage before any thing was installed. Search Google on rolling back Windows on info how to do that. Make sure you backup any files you have before you do any thing.

You can game with it, but only at the more basic settings. If you buy a unit with 8GB upgrade it to 16GB, it gives the CPU dual channel memory access and a 40% increase in speed.

Eric Yost thanks for the comment. Yes I'm 100% sure it's not got a gigabit Ethernet connection as I previously had a laptop with that and transferring files on my home network was superfast. +Eric Yost yes my switch is gigabit, my server has a gigabit card and I've checked the properties and I can see in the advanced properties of the laptop connected at 100Mbps and there are no other speed higher speed options perhaps it's just the model I got?!

I own this laptop and it is utter garbage. Never buying a dell laptop again. Much rather spend 1000s on a MacBook, sure it’s pricey but at least I know it will last multiple years completely fine

I got lucky. My sister was throwing hers out with her desktop. I managed to catch both of them. I looked at reviews. All saying to avoid this brand.

I don't recommend this laptop to those in multimedia fields such as design and video editing as its biggest flaw is the washed out display.

Terrible laptop don’t buy can’t run games dedicated for it like firtnite

Make sure you install the graphics driver software and when you start the game it asks if you want the optimum settings say yes and you'll get around 30-35 fps and it's quite usable. Give it a go.
