Demonstration of 3 technologies for doing Liquid Light Shows, from my talk at Vidicon 2020. Originally broadcast Nov. 15, 2020. The demo takes place in my studio, and shows off my digital high resolution rig, my analog video rig, and a classic pure analog overhead projection set up. Featuring HD camera, video mixing and VJ tools (Resolume) for the digital portion. A visual presenter, Edirol V-4 video mixer, LZX Vidiot, and modified Ninetendo for the analog video part. Then three overhead projectors, along with a squash plate, blow plate, bubbler, and various color wheels for the pure analog section.
This was Part 2 of my talk on the Evolution of Liquid Light Show Technology from the 1950s to Present and Beyond. Part 1 (lecture and slide show), and Part 3 (live Q&A) are also up here on my channel.
Many thanks to the good people at Vidicon for inviting me, and having the opportunity to talk about this stuff! They were great and wonderful to work with.
For more information about my work and liquid light shows, check out more of my videos or head over to www.LiquidLightLab.com
Cheers,
Steve Pavlovsky

Its like you took acid in the 60’s stood in front of the screen with the rock band on stage and traveled to the future bringing all the technology that has come out since and combined it all into your mind blowing super awesome light show. Very well done!!! I LOVE your work!!! Right on man, keep on trucking.

Thank you for everything that you do and share. It is such a delight to listen to you elaborate about that which is inherently quite rad and something you obviously love so much. Great job :) I'm just about dying to get myself playing this way!

Amazing videos! The instructional playlist and history review are such a great contribution to the tradition! You mention one in of the tutorials adding a dimmer "after the fan" in the OHP circuit. Could you provide any more detail on the mod, and what kind of dimmer you use?
@LiquidLightLab
@LiquidLightLab Жыл бұрын
Thanks! The dimmer is a 600w wall dimmer for regular house lights. Power in an OHP will split to a fan and the lamp inside it. So finding just the last wire going to the lamp is where the dimmer goes.

Hello Steve, first of all, thank you for the detailed demonstration of your setup, it inspired me to start the journey. May I ask what camera do you use for the “digital overhead projector” or what technical parameters a camera should have in order to be used in a setup like this? Thank you for all of you effort in explaining this art form! Big up!
@LiquidLightLab
@LiquidLightLab 2 жыл бұрын
The camera doesn't have to be fancy. Of course the more expensive ones produce a better image, but as long as the camera gets any smooth image it will work.

I,ve only just discovered your channel, When I was young used to do the same sort of thing. then VJ Software come along it was convenient, and no waters or covered with stuff. But this, is more hands on, and I,ve had forgotten just how much fun it was. It like going back to playing Albums, after using MP3s. I use to do feed back while filming old CRT screen, influence by DR who on TV. used to make 8" inch glass box with a 45 degree glass cross it. to do cross fading. I was a big Hawkwind fan. loved there gigs far better than floyd shows in the day. I think you may of got me interested in again some brill tips glad your passing your skills along. Maybe you can help me. I had this old pifco oil wheel projector. but the oil and colours between the glass dry out, so Me being me tried to split the glass and they cracked. I made new glass but never could get that oil to work like it did any Idea? cheers Man.... jimsim

Not sure how to fix it, but there are still lots of Optikinetiks sealed wheels around, and also some new ones made by Roderick Wilson

@jimsim3 3 жыл бұрын
@@LiquidLightLab Hi, Didn't expect such a quick reply, Yeah I know, there still a market Optikinetiks there in Luton uk. Don,t know about Roderick Wilson. But saying that, I,am like hands on. I like to know things, But hay cheers for your input. I like what your doing, and old school is still in the frame. so to speck. I used to like to chroma key film,s of gigs and use the colorcycle wheel as fill. but what has happen to color cycling I love Mark Ferrari animation for the Amiga Deluxe Paint, made some cool looking animation,s and it was just an image with color cycling. anyways keep the faith, you doing some cool stuff

Hi Steve. I'm wondering what size of a stage backdrop a classroom overhead projector can practically project on and still get good color saturation - assuming it's a dark stage the band is playing on... and thank you for your videos!
@LiquidLightLab
@LiquidLightLab 2 жыл бұрын
It's hard to say because projectors can vary. They're meant be up close in classrooms, but most still look good at a 10' wide image. After that get get dimmer as you get farther away... Look up something called 'throw ratio'. It's a measurement of a lens which will give you the specific answer for each projector

Just wondering what the difference is with the Elmo ev450af and the 500? I have 2 450's atm. Phenomenal vid also dude!
@LiquidLightLab
@LiquidLightLab 2 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure. I don't think I've ever seen a 500. Only the AFs..I know the 400 is almost the same but with less zoom power.

Hey i found those liquid oil colors on Amazon (cause I’m poor lol) and they’re actually made for using for candles. Do you think I could use it for the projections? Not quite sure yet. An answer would help very much!!!!

Hi, Do you know how big I can project with an OH projector?
@LiquidLightLab
@LiquidLightLab 3 жыл бұрын
Depends on the lens. Look up something called 'throw ratio" that tells you how wide an image will be with your lens. Each projector is different so you need to check the specs
