Our off-road recovery mission this time took us to the majestic Valley of the Giants, just south of San Felipe, Baja - in fact this is where we end up on our typical desert adventure tour in our sandrail. Logan and Tara, along with their 20 to 25,000 pound Overlander vehicle, Oscar, had just spent the night in the desert after getting buried in deep sand while going around a large, downed and thorny Ocotillo. A good samaritan, Butch, was already there helping in his truck when they decided they needed to call in the Unimog - it takes a big truck to move another big truck as Oscar had lost his 4 wheel drive capability somewhere along the way, compounding the issue. It truly was a team effort to get this rig unstuck. Kerry, Kirk and Butch hopped into action - first trying a regular tow rope, then putting the shovels into action, and finally a couple tugs with the kinetic energy rope, along with driver skill in both rigs and Oscar was free. Needless to say, everyone was thrilled. Desert Adventure Tours was never going into the recovery business intentionally, but every time we are part one, we can't help but smile for days!
