Im a very new beginner to the huge world of art filled with learning opportunities and different and unique styles but ive always been very passionate and keen on drawing fantasy and nordic-oriented concept art of buildings, towns, cities and landscapes for my own fond world and, as a mostly self-taught artist, i have realized my lack of knowledge and found there is still plenty good and educative stuff to found around to help on the betterment of my personnal art projects and skills!- like these videos for exemple. A very fair thanks to you my chap! You deserve way more attention than you are getting!!- This is outrageously helpful and pristine content! :))

Dude, this is INCREDIBLE. I love comics, and I'm an okay-ish artist, but I have SUCH a hard time with perspective and blockouts. I've been thinking about using Blender as an undersketch to paint over and tell stories, and thought "Ehhh...is that cheating?" But now you've given me the inspiration and the go ahead to try it out and get these stories out into the world! I love the cutaway view too, reminds me of books I'd read as a kid with different cutaway views of castles and ships. So cool. Instantly subbed. Can't wait to see where you're going with this.

Thanks a lot! I'm really happy if you got inspired from this and it helped you with your work! There's definitely no such thing as cheating, as long as you get the result you were after, it doesn't really matter how you got there (except for directly copying and stealing others work of course). That being said it's always good to know the fundamentals and it's never bad to practice that, it can only help, but it all depends on what is important to you :)

Fantastic series! For fun you should UV project the flat color layer onto the mesh and play around with dynamic lighting changes over the scene!
@duntemdraws310
@duntemdraws310 2 жыл бұрын
Wait how? That sounds really cool
@gunnarbrittany
@gunnarbrittany 2 жыл бұрын
@@duntemdraws310 If the model is unwrapped, you can use the UV project modifier, or “project from view” in the UV editor. While using the original camera as the projector, and the base color layer from photoshop as the diffuse texture for the model. That way you can move around lights in the scene and the textured model will be lit dynamically with lighting changes calculated over the painted texture. One note with this technique, because the texture (in this case) was painted from a fixed angle, The camera will have to stay locked, or at least limited movements, or else the illusion will break

Thank you! I've mostly learned it just looking at a variety of tutorials. Any free tutorials you can find on KZfaq should work :) for concept art specifically, you can also look up Jan Urschel and Jama Jurabaevs tutorials for example, but there is tons of good stuff out there! :)

The fireplace and firepit on wooden floors is a little immersion breaking... the firepit could have a firebowl under it? But I'm not sure how to make the fireplace work without a solid foundation.

The fire pit on a wooden floor isn't the best idea for one's house, and I feel bad for the person with a ladder hole directly beside their bunk bed. The shadowing has me confused, because shouldn't the areas of lighting on each level dictate where the shadows lie? For example, the room with the hearth and the fire burning... the shadows don't line up with the angle they should be with the fireplace in that spot. The shadows should be on the opposite side of the furniture in that room. Otherwise it's gorgeous and fun to watch the process.
@Montinovich
@Montinovich 2 жыл бұрын
There are definitely some improvements to be made for sure :) I took some liberties with the lighting to simplify it to mostly a single light source from outside to not make it too complicated and confusing as with these strong black shadows it can easily start to become too busy and cover up other parts. Thank you for the feedback :)

Some observations... I'd at least like to point out that in medieval times, one of the bigger causes for child mortality was kids falling off of stuff like ladders or similar high places. Parents might have been hesitant to pick the top-floor-risk for their offspring. Especially considering that child mortality was high in general. Somewhat different rules for fantasy worlds, of course...but something to consider. It seems like there's more buildings of that kind in the background. The design is a fire-trap, though. When a fire breaks out below, everyone's going to die above, with no means for escape visible. I'd muse the design wouldn't be popular for a long time. Fireplaces in medieval times were usually used for heating and preparing food. The fireplace in this example (first floor) appears to be very impractical for cooking or similar. The top floor would be even more inconvenient, considering all the ladders to climb while carrying food and dishes. An open fire as seen on the top floor, should at least be a lot smaller. Sitting that close to such a big fire (according to the log size) would be extremely hot. Especially considering how narrow the room is. I'd assume it must be unbearable to sit in such a small space that will heat up very swiftly. The building *looks* great and cozy, though.
@Montinovich
@Montinovich 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot for your thoughts! You're absolutely right with the practicalities of the fires being questionable, and I've definitely taken some liberties with that in favor of the looks etc. Hopefully the medieval building inspector doesn't come by 😅 and perhaps they could install a zip line to the top to get to the ground in the case of a fire 😃
