This poor MacBook is completely obliterated with major damage inside and out. This is definitely going to be a challenge.

Story time: I was driving down the highway and changing lanes. As I accelerated to around 60 everything was fine. In a few seconds my iPad decided to fly up from the bonnet of the car as I forgot it was placed there. As it carried in the wind it hit the windshield of the car continuing to fly off the car. You can imagine my face... Well let’s just say it was a bit more demolished than this MacBook. So yes i have sadly seen today it’s possible to demolish a apple device more than this one and a video. Just run over with about 30 cars going 70 as soon it flys 20 feet in the air.

Thanks showcasing your expertise in repairing this. I am having same type of Mac, but still looks like it is coming out from the Box newly, my probowith it are - 1• The screen at the uppers there is a bit of discolouration. Will send you the photos if I could get you how to send it. 2• The battery is far gone, it needs to be changed. 3• I need a higher gigs of a Solid State Drive Memory. Apart from this, you will think this wonderful Mac is just been opened from the Box. Many Thanks Jeff.

@@sys-administrator That's already kind of obvious. Apple Silicon is just another part of Apple's plan to stifle Right to Repair and force users to fork over more $$$ to them for repairs. @ That's one way to increase the amount of eWaste. Instead of having repairable laptops, just sell throwaway devices that are unrepairable that'll end up mostly in landfills. Apple's hypocrisy is so obvious and their care for the "environment" is nothing more than a lie for the sake of profits.

It always amazes me how some people treat their MacBook's. Back in 2011 me and two of my friends all went to the Apple Store and each bought 13" MacBook Pro's for University. So, all three MacBook Pro's were identical & bought at the exact same time. I always keep my Apple stuff in as close to mint condition as possible (even being really OCD about the packaging including all the little pieces of plastic/paper covering the power brick and plug. I also clean my MacBook Pro's religiously), my friend took good care of her MacBook Pro too... The other friend however thrashed that poor thing to an inch of it's life. He didn't use a carrying case/sleeve and just threw it in his bag. Less than ONE MONTH after getting an immaculate, brand new MacBook Pro the thing was covered in scratches, dings and dents and was FILTHY. I've never seen such damage and dirt/mess caused in such a small amount of time (You could almost write your name on the case). If you compared mine and my other friends MBP to his; his MBP looked like it was 10 years old and had served in an active war-zone. That's how bad the MBP had gotten after ONE MONTH. The really crazy thing was that he was EXTREMELY tight with money, more-so than anyone I've ever met. It was such a contradiction to see someone that tight with money who couldn't be bothered to look after a £1000, brand new MacBook Pro.

Nice repair work - that is so much better than the old wreck it once was, and also saves it from the e-waste pile :) I'm surprised that someone hacked out part of the battery! Those battery cells (which are still there) can be re-purposed in electronic projects, if you get in contact with people who are into electronic engineering and the like. I routinely buy job lots of laptop batteries on the cheap in order to salvage Li-Ion cells for projects, and the Macbook ones generally have more capacity remaing compared to Windows laptops (Windows only reports the battery as dead when its capacity reaches 40%!). Shame that this was the first of the laptops to feature soldered RAM, proprietory parts (such as the SSD) and no disk drive... IMO the Unibody 2012 was the best one; shame it won't take Mac OS 11 Big Sur (will only got to 10.15 Catalina).

Such a nice video! It encourages me to try and fix some used lap tops too, salvaging pieces seem so cool and this would help me get a working computer for my online classes lol

4:15 my XPS from 2018 still has a battery that’s screwed in. It even has a power switch on the board similar to a desktop power supply

Hey Hugh, great video as usual. What about that collab with your friend, where you were repairing an old vehicle? You never mentioned again the channel/the project.

this is so much fun watching someone else do the same things I do for a living, although your workspace is a helluva lot cleaner than mine :D

Still rocking my 2011 MBP. Swapped out the battery, upgraded RAM and switched to SSD. Works like a dream, plus I don't need to spend money on annoying adapters thanks to its plethora of ports!

I think the early user or something else has managed to remove the SSD and speakers and battery to use in a different laptop or device. It’s really great that you can fix literally anything. People should gave their old device to you as your are doing kind of a service towards the environment. Great video man.

Thank you for this video - Not often you see anyone work on one of those. I have exactly same laptop from 2013 early, and I can't make myself try to swap battery, as it's glued there so damn hard. Also those used screens are extremely expensive, though Apple sell em to authorized services, 500 usd a piece new. I wanted to swap mine due to grey uniformity defect - still a bit too much.
