I keep it simple. Watching videos gave me the routine that I do daily and beyond. I moisture with peppermint tea water daily. After I oil with the rosemary oil I made, I massage my scalp, then I put a silk scarf on it. My hair drinks in the mixture quickly and stays moisturized until wash day. I keep it in mini twists. Very pleased with this my hair loves it.

Hi Miss Karen! ♥️😘 I'm so happy that I do most of the things you mentioned in the video. And when I don't get a chance to wash my hair once a week, or when I simply don't feel like it, make sure I shampoo every two weeks. I seem to see the most growth when I shampoo once a week. This year in June, it will mark the anniversary of my big chop! 😊 You have been such a comfort, and an amazing teacher! ♥️♥️♥️

Been natural for half my life . I really don't know why what I do works, it just does. When channels like this explain things in detail, I see why some of what I do works and why others don't. Every now and then I try something new for a few weeks and if after a month I see no improvement, I drop it. And ever so often someone will come up with something I've never heard of before and I try it I am learning so much from channels Ike this.

Great video, my question is with a protein treatment do you use steam or dry heat with a hooded dryer?
@KarenofCurlHouse
@KarenofCurlHouse 3 ай бұрын
Hey there! I would use DRY HEAT so a hooded dryer, but please read the label on the protein product just make sure you need to put a cap on. There are a few more concentrated treatments that do not require a cap under the dryer as the protein needs to dry or get hard from the heat -- so read the instructions.

What i notice is by the time i get to wash day, my hair is at its best and most moist. On shampoo day is good, but the next day, even after deep conditioning, oil moisturizing lock-in, i still have to use creams or lotions to lock in. I hate to wash my hair every week because by wash day it is beautiful. All the products used during the week has it in a silk like state. So, does it sound like i should be washing every week or every other week? I have no scalp or length retention issues. 😊 Never had any.

Hey there! Japan!! Wow 🙀 Now there are different types of keratin treatments. Are you referring to those treatments applied then 'smoothed' in using heat, a flat iron or are you referring to keratin treatments that function more than protein treatments (the conditioner in which in protein)? If it's more of a smoothing treatment, I suggest no more than 3 times per year.

Hi Karen! Have you done a video on blow drying with styling natural hair yet? I'd like to start showing a little of my true length with braids or plaits but want to also keep my hair healthy blow drying it. I don't trust anyone's solid advice on the internet but yours! 🥰

Hi Karen! I wanna start this off with saying I love your videos! But my question was about oils! Can you use them with your deep conditioner, and during ur style routine to lock in the moisture of ur leave in before your styling products? Or should be the final step in a styling routine?
@KarenofCurlHouse
@KarenofCurlHouse 2 ай бұрын
Hey GodKing! Yes -- you CAN add a little to your conditioner to step it up some. Because you are rinsing out the deep conditioner, you can also apply them to after you use your leave-in conditioner and/or moisturizer before styling to seal or lock in the moisture. AND depending on your style, you can also use it a final style when the hair is dry. So for example, whenever I do a twist out, I use a VERY LIGHT spray oil to mist my hair to untwist the twist. Here's a link for that oil that I use as finishing spray: amzn.to/3vPEkzG But I want you to monitor your hair when you use oils at different points. Let your hair tell you what it needs.

Hi, Aunt K. I have been natural for 6 years. I big chopped in 2022 because my hair was thinning and I really just needed a fresh start. I am still struggling with retaining moisture because my hair drinks anything I put on it and gets dry in minutes. I use water, conditioner, glycerin and amla oil to seal. And damn😩😩😩😩😩😩...dry in minutes!! I still don't understand how I have managed to retain length til date but I need moisture retention.

I've been dealing with different issues than most naturals. My hair was trained by my beautician mother for years. I got it washed once a month because of the length and thickness. It would take an entire day. Got it combed every day even on weekends. So, i have to think about what she did cause she is no longer living. 1. My hair hates protein. 2. Water too often aggravates it, creating more work and problems. 3. I'm medium porosity, so there's not a lot of information on my type of hair. It's usually on high or low. 4. Protective styles are more damaging to my hair. Twist outs are a train wreck. It's very soft, fine, thick and with combination hair. The top does not stand up. It's a very, very loose wave pattern that spikes straight on the ends. The underneath hair only gets curly on the ends. It hates heat, including hot weather, and picks up all the moisture in the air, creating frizz more like a sponge effect, that doesn't happen in the winter. What kind of products should i be using in the summer? 😮
