I love this saw. The cordless is great and cuts great but the best thing is the weight. Carrying a giant 12” saw to cut 1x6” pine etc is where this really shines for me.

Your review had me getting this to use with my son's battery path. With mine being the Milwaukee M12/M18 path, our use just couldn't justify the price difference and the build quality of this shines hard (even though it isn't as full featured as the M18 Fuel). We are really looking forward to how this nice little powerful saw will be upping our mobility game with cedar fencing and trim work. It's not often that compromise can be accepted so easily to be absolutely no compromise at all. What a great review. Thank you.

I'm in love with this saw, I been left behind in the 18v but I think this saw will help me cross over. I have a 12 double bevel sliding right now. It's huge and heavy. I am a new home detailer that does punch list items. I keep my saw in the back of my truck and have to pull it to the end then run an extension cord to the house just to cut one cut some times then have to roll my cord up and sit the saw back in place. But this one is small enough I can keep right in the back ready for a cut and move on to the next house or the next work order. I usually cut door casings, base up to 5 1/4 , scribe, and the occasional crown. This saw is perfect for me. Ive been seeing the box at home depot but it wasn't until they had a display model that I fell in love with it.

I just spoke with a DeWalt Rep. The saw does come with a 7-1/4" miter saw blade. The difference is that it has a negative rake. You will get a better cut by using the DeWalt blade. However I know most people will be buying a Diablo blade instead. Either way, nice review and Happy Holidays

Dewalt lists the maximum vertical cut at 3.5". A 4x4 us actually 3.5"x3.5". I wish someone would truly verify if these can cut a 4x4, because according to dewalts specs, it should be able to. This is the only 7 1/4 miter saw I have found with a 3.5" vertical cut depth.
@RealToolReviews4 жыл бұрын
The washer that attaches the blade is wider than 1/4”.....so no, it cannot cut that deep.
@akaredcrossbow4 жыл бұрын
Steven it won’t, but just flip the 4x4 after the first cut and cut the other side. I built a deck that had 14 4x4’s that had to be cut and it works that way. I have built multiple things that used 4x4’s with this saw.

Great review! Very helpful and informative! I'm already on the Makita 18v lineup, my question is would you think that this saw and the 16 gauge nailer coming out would make it worthwhile having 2 different 18v lineups (purchasing Dewalt tools/batteries/charger) or do you think makita's 18v mitre saw and 18gauge nailer would be sufficient enough to remain with only 1 18v lineup? Have you ever used makita's 18v mitre saw?
@RealToolReviews9 жыл бұрын
***** I have not used the Makita 18v saw or nailer, so I could not say. However, all of the Makita tools that I have used have been top notch. I personally would not have an issue with more than one battery platform, since a lot of times when you buy a kit --- the batttery/charger that comes with the tool is heavily discounted in price (vs buying individually).

You only show this saw cutting through wood, i'm assuming the same can be done with the appropriate metal cutting blade or is this for wood only?
@RealToolReviews8 жыл бұрын
+jharris280zx I know some people use standard miter saws & circular saws for metal. Personally I would not suggest it, since they are specifically designed for wood (torque applied through a cut). The metal circular & chop saws are completely geared differently & wont "burn up" like a normal unit with extended use cutting through metal.

I always look forward to watching your tool reviews. You do a very thorough job, one of the best I'd say. Just had a question about the blades. Miter Saw blades have a different rake on them, and I would imagine that a 7-1/4" Miter Saw blade would be hard to find. Do you think a regular 7-1/4" Circ Saw Blade would be okay to use?
@RealToolReviews9 жыл бұрын
Nalu Rash Thanks! I appreciate it :) Sorry for not being clearer in the video, but this uses normal 7-1/4" circular saw blades (there are no 7-1/4" miter saw blades). I prefer using Diablo Demo Demon 24-tooth blades in my testing of circular saws, to make things always a level playing field across various brands of saws. They are at Home Depot for about $15/each. Also, for finer finish cuts you can use a 40-tooth or 60-tooth blade.....the 24-tooth is better for the run time testing since I can cut faster & get more cuts. One thing to note --- pay attention to the blade direction when installing a blade (not the paint/words on the blade since it varies from one manufacturer to the next).
@NaluRash9 жыл бұрын

I use 24 tooth and 40 tooth cutting crown molding etc. Awesome saw and cheap to keep a good blade in it vs a 10” or 12”. I also use the Diablo blades. Home Depot has deals 2 for the price of 1 on those a lot of times so $15 for 2

@RealToolReviews9 жыл бұрын
Jordan Booth It definitely is impressive!
@mr.anderson70899 жыл бұрын
One thing you didn't mention is that when you miter to the right, the motor prevents you from cutting 3 1/2 inch material vertically. You can only cut about 2 inches vertically when mitered to the right. Found that out today and was rather disappointed. Sure you can lay it flat and bevel it, but it still sucks.
@RealToolReviews9 жыл бұрын
+Got Metal 7-1/4" blades definitely have their limitations....being lightweight & extremely portable are two big advantages of this VS a 10" or 12" miter saw though. Thanks for pointing that out & taking the time to comment.

I have a question. I'm not all that familiar with carpentry. What is it that a miter saw can do that a table saw can't? Which is more versatile to have if you only have one?
@TheVelluch9 жыл бұрын
Bigchuck678 A table saw is primarily for ripping plywood and making rip cuts (lengthwise of wood). A Miter saw is far better at crosscutting wood within its specs to a desired length, such as cutting down 2x4's. If you can only have one then a table saw can make all cuts with a proper jig for each cut, However having both is really the best way. You can find miter saw very cheap.
@Bigchuck6789 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the explanation.
@RealToolReviews9 жыл бұрын
Bigchuck678 +TheVelluch has it 100% correct.....sorry for the delay! Starting out, you would be better to go Jigsaw, then Circular Saw, then table saw, then miter saw in my opinion.
@jpslattery73449 жыл бұрын
Interesting how it casts a shadow on one side and a light on the other side whereas the XPS system on the 780 casts a pure shadow line down the middle with equal light on both sides.
