*Works great my **Latest.Bike** I have a bad knee so I still get exercise but the bike assists me. I am a big guy so I didn’t think it would go as fast but it works great.*

Good job with both the mechanical and electrical engineering for your motorized bicycle/moped/motorcycle. Also, very good craftsmanship to give it the retro look.

Did you consider Bluetooth for the speakers? That would be slick and clean. Easy to send music via any smartphone too.

Hey Blair funny I ran into your Channel today looking for new videos to see . because I was tinkering with my cordless drill batteries the other week.trying to figure out how to utilize the energy that them batteries can put out. to use for my two stroke motorized bicycle headlights and rear lights. question did you do your bike by your self or did someone help you. AWESOME BIKE you have there Blair.

Beautiful job! Is it dangerous to apply 60 volts to the controller of the motor, built to be used with 48 volts batterie?

Very clean build! What was the total build cost?

Wow! So much work! Incredible. What are your thoughts on brushless DC Motors? I am building an electric scooter and getting rid of the ESC would save a lot of space.
@Blair88mph7 жыл бұрын
No matter what kind of motor you choose you will always have some form of speed controller. What I like about the bafung is that it is built into the motor. DC brushless motors are better than brushed in longevity and performance however are more expensive. A battery on a brushless will typically last 20-30% longer. There is a lot more complexity to a brushless as it is a 3 wire setup and requires a higher quality of circuitry. Just some of my thoughts.

I bought a ~1500w brushless motor from china with a industrial controller for $350. I feed my 12s10p Samsung 26F 18650 pack straight into the controller and use a $12 0-5v pedal off Amazon for speed control. 40A fuse in line of the battery pack, e-brake switch to cut power to the motor, 3 way toggle for forward/off/reverse. I put everything on the back of a go kart and use a centrifugal clutch with a weak spring since the industrial controller doesn't like the motor stalling while taking off from a standstill. Haven't been able to go top speed since I'm working on it in a busy town, but Ill get to have some fun this summer. I have a little over 1k into my project and I see all these guys with insane setups that probably cost over $2k+ with custom work done. I'm not beating any acceleration records, but I tried to do everything in the most cost effective way. Ill have a video up in a few months.

Very nice work , man. I have a couple of questions; 1. On previous videos, you've planned to monitor each of the 15 individual cells thru LEDs and a sonic alarm to avoid cell damage. However , you did not implemented them. Did you have some feedback as this monitoring no being necessary and monitoring the total 20 volts as being enough ? For instance, the Tesla electric car is having about 6,000 cells and of course impossible to monitor each of them. 2. Concerning the mounting plate , did you cut out the grid with the mill you showed on early video? or used different machine for that? if so how? Thanks and again, awesome piece of work

Nice job! What ended up being your range and top speed?
@bullwhipjohnson82476 жыл бұрын
Only if you're really confident that you would never have to pedal home should you disable the pedal drive. Again, I would ditch all of the creature comforts and just focus on getting it safe and dependable first. Then you can add only the things you really need to get around without draining the batteries as fast as you can. Good luck.😉

How did you get past the +/- 10 percent threshold for the 48 volt system. 54.8 should be the highest you can run on. How are you doing this?
@user-pi3fh9cp5m7 жыл бұрын
How much has it cost you thus far? Just curious how price efficient it is as compared to commercial ebikes.

i would delete the radio and heated handgrips and not use pedal cables and go back to the former , the leather seat is very nice and will conform to you . all the power saved i would put into the motor .
@robertdale70017 жыл бұрын
same thing i was thinking looking at who simple the wiring would be.no radio,no heated grips

great bike congrats. have you thought of making the rim into a generator to self charge as you ride ? your welcome from down under
@JohnJones-sg6hu5 жыл бұрын
Charlie Jeans I think that is a great idea. I was wondering if there was a way to add a generator. I have no skills or knowledge of such things, but I remember as a teenager, using a small tire rubbing generator to run my bicycle headlights back in the 60s. LOL. I don’t even know is they still ma those or not. Showing my age.

Have you ever looked in to the EGO 56 volt batteries for possible builds? These can be bought at any place carrying the EGO electric lawn equipment Home Depot ect. Looking to build a bike and borrow a few thoughts from you concept only a rear wheel drive 48 volt 1000 watt unit. Got any ideas?

I m looking at building the same sorta bike but using 4 dewalt 60V 9.0 amph batteries, any reason you used a chain driven motor instead of a hub motor?
@Blair88mph7 жыл бұрын
having a mid engine with chain gives you gearing options while a hub motor you just get what you get, your only gearing options being wheel size. Also I dont know if you have ever actually drove a rear hub motor bicycle but weight placement has a big effect on drive-ability. Having a rear hub motor bike with rear batteries its quite strange to ride. You have all this weight on the rear tires and you steering is light as a feather. Its like having second rider holding on to the back of your bike, if you ever did that as a kid. the rear battery front motor is also quite strange. the weight is ballanced between the rear batteries and the front motor but the front motor acts as a giant gyro and its weird having that much weight on your front tire. Part of it is actually kind of cool the gyro effect really auto steers the bike forwards its weird. You can sit there and take your hands off the handlebars and do whatever you want. The bike just wants to go straight. I mean its wants to has to go straight. You can go over curbs and potholes without touching the handlebars and the front tires just wobbles a bit but like I said it just wants to go straight because of the gyro effect. Having the motor and the batteries at the center of gravity just makes the bike feel like a normal bike. That is the biggest advantage.
