DeWalt 60V Flexvolt 20" Saw Chain Alternatives for DCCS677

The original DeWalt replacement chain (DWO1DT620) seems to be out of stock everywhere at the time of creating this video.
There are two alternatives that fit the DCCS677 20" Flexvolt chainsaw and I test them both and they both WORK VERY WELL with the DCCS677 chainsaw:
Oregon 91PX068G AdvanceCut saw chain (low kickback)
Oregon 91VXL068G VersaCut saw chain (NOT low kickback!)
Both chains are 3/8" low profile pitch, .050" gauge and 68 drive links.

I have a place nearby that will make a chain any size I need, but I haven't had any problems finding chains, the only Dewalt chain I have used was the original that came with the saw, after I sharpen a chain, it becomes a nice fast aggressive chain, practically better than new.

Great follow up vid, I watched your original as well. Oregon makes a low-kick back version of the VersaCut chain, called ControlCut. However they do not offer a 68 link version, but I use the 62 link version (91PXL062G) with an 18" bar.

Thanks, good to know! I've contemplated buying a roll of bulk chain and rolling my own 20" loops - but 100 feet is a LOT of chain to go through. Especially since the VersaCut can be sharpened so many times.

@@CascadesHomestead Same here. Another cool option: I get carbide chains off of ebay from a company called Pacific American Carbide for dirty/demo work with my DeWalt 12" DCCS620. And they can do a 3/8LP .050" 68 link chain, won't be cheap though at around $60.

Wish you woukd talk about full chizel chains. Full chisel. Is what i need to know if i can get with these chains. Those chains lije tge advance cut decline rapidly in performance as tgey get even a little bit dull. Where a full chisel will seem to cut better longer after it gets a little dull. Can you make a video after tge chains are dull?

Hi Robert, I have NOT been able to find a 3/8 low profile full chisel chain and the big forestry supply houses do not have such a chain either, trust me I have looked everywhere! :( Please let me know if you know of a company that makes a full chisel chain in 3/8 LP and I'll test it!

How would you compare/rate the DeWalt chain vs the Oregon chains you tested with? With HD currently having the DeWalt chains in stock, would you consider the Oregon chains (particularly the Oregon 91PX068G AdvanceCut saw chain (low kickback)) chain an upgrade?

I’d say the AdvanceCut and the DeWalt chains are more or less the same. Buy whatever is cheaper and easier to get. If you are comfortable with more kickback then buy the Oregon VersaCut which cuts faster.

Have you seen anywhere that has a ripping chain that fits the Dewalt 20” saw? It looks like even if all the measurements match, the hooks that attach to the drive mechanism are too big to fit in the Dewalt.

@Retro Guy Do you have a part number for the tensioner? This saw was great and then the tensioner seems to have broken.

Just used my saw for the first time today. Got though 5 cuts of 14” poplar. The chain seemed to loosened up super fast and dull quickly. The part numbers for the replacement chains are saying they are for an 18” bar. Am I missing something? Forgive my ignorance here.

Hi Aaron, please make sure your search results are for Oregon 91PX068G or Oregon 91VXL068G (notice the 68!). Google or Bing may come back with different results as the first choice. If you buy either the 91PX068G or the 91VXL068G chains then I promise they will fit the 20" bar as they have 68 drive links. DO NOT buy 91PX062G or the 91VXL062G (notice the 62!) they are for the 18" bars and will NOT fit the original bar for the DCCS677.

Do any of the electric chainsaws take standard 18” or 20” standard chains? Or are they all thinner?

Hi Bob, they are all 3/8" low profile, which is a narrow kerf chain. All the electric chainsaws I've seen so far run narrow kerf chains (since there is less wood to remove with the cut you get 10 - 15% more battery life).

Are there any Oregon 18" or 16" bars I can put on the DCCS677 or DCCS672? What do I need to know or look for to find a smaller Oregon Bar and appropriate chain to make sure it works? Would want something low kickback. Thank you.

180SDEA041 bar 18" is a good fit, and I use a 91VXL062G that's the best Oregon chain you can have in low profile, but for low kickback you could use 91PX062G

@We Up There is no 20" bar/chain combo from Oregon for the DCCS677 since they don't make a 20" bar with A041 mount, 3/8 low profile pitch and .050" gauge. I haven't found anybody else that makes a bar like that besides DeWalt, the part number is DeWalt DWZCSB20 and you can buy it at Home Depot and a few others (and then use Oregon 3/8 low profile .050" chain with it).

Keep in mind, the drive sprocket is geared for 3/8" LP pitch, so you're stuck with that. I haven't found a replacement drive sprocket for other pitches.

I was going to ask this same question. I was half expecting the drive sprocket to dictate the compatible 20” chains. Any idea if the sprocket is proprietary, or could you use one from Stihl, for example?

Is the versacut full chisel or semi chisel?

VersaCut is semi chisel and AdvanceCut is chamfer chisel with extra bumpers on the drive links.

I was told the sproket on the chainsaw doesn't fit with those chains? Is that true?

Hi J, the sprocket for the 60V DeWalt 20" saw is for 3/8" low profile. Both of the Oregon saw chains here are 3/8" low profile pitch, .050" gauge and 68 drive links and they fit just fine. I've used both the Oregon 91PX068G AdvanceCut and the Oregon 91VXL068G VersaCut. Buy either one of them and then lay your new Oregon chain next to your used DeWalt chain - same pitch, same number of drive links, perfect fit.

In the description it says for a bar 18'' my dewalt has a 20'' bar?

Hi Arnold, what description are you referring to? The 91PX068G and the 91VXL068G are both for 20" bars and have 68 links. Make sure you pick the right chain (with the 68 in the SKU) since Google/Bing can show the wrong chain.
