Very interesting vid. I was a cabinet installer for 10 years. We have used dewalt exclusively. We haven’t had a single tool burn out. In fact the only issue we have had with dewalt is the two flex volt miter saws. For 4 of those10 years that we had the flex volt miter saw the only issue we had was couldn’t use the wall outlet attachment because without fail it would trip every breaker we ever plugged it into. 🤷‍♂️. But we always worked in dry conditions and mostly in the shade. Light to medium use for every dewalt tool…. But daily use I should add.

Thanks for the video, I have some Dewalt tools but I buy all tools from every brand. I just pick up tools that work from each. All brands have failures, I have not had a Dewalt Fail yet, but I also been carful about what I get and look into each tool a little bit.

I have the Ryobi system. I've been really happy with it so far. I did have an air pump blow smoke out of it, and die. But all the other stuff has held up. I have noticed the tool line has been raising there prices the last few years.

bummer, sorry to hear - my experiences with them have all been great so far. You mentioned the miter saw failure after 2 years: i've heard other people have had issues with the AC adapter burning out the motor on that model, so i believe that's a known issue, and warranty is 3 yrs - maybe you can still get some support on at least that one? Totally agree on that mixing drill, though - i love mine - it's a keeper!

I got the 20v chain saw for small jobs, never worked out of the box! Still in warranty so took it to the local center (during Covid so took 9 mo. to get back). Started at the shop, got home inserted battery and nothing and of course warranty was up at that point! Also would not hold oil….

I am glad you are happy. I used to have as many as you did. Until they decicded not to stand behind there products. So i sold everything and went to the Metaboo HPT line. And they are great customer service is awesome. And they have a lifetime warranty.

Don't you hate it when that magic smoke leaks out. 20 yrs ago I purchased a Ridgid cordless drill/driver. In 20 years they have replaced my 2 batteries a total 5 or 6 times (10-12 batteries total) and I sent the tool in one time for repairs. They replaced the trigger. The only money I've been out over this tool purchase is the gas to drive to Home Depot for warranty service. Lifetime warranty is great but you have to go online and register the tool and batteries to get that warranty. And you have to register the serial # of the new batteries when old ones get replaced. I was a carpenter for 15 of those years. Retired 5 yrs ago and do mostly hobby woodworking now.

I can't suggest Makita enough. I have Dewalt, Milwaukee, and Makita power tools. I use Makita the most and despite that have had more failures with Milwaukee and Dewalt tools and batteries. To date I have had zero Makita tool or battery failures.

Were you using the chop saw with the wall outlet adapter a lot? I've heard from others and dewalt themselves its known issue that if you don't use battery's it blows motors. Started buying flex stuff recently and really impressed with everything so far.

I've had the exact same experience. My failure rate was 70%. Sold the ones I had and switched to red, never looked back. Just keep hearing the same problems from dewalt owners. My favorite Dewalt which I still have is a 10" compound mitre saw, 120v. Still works great! Always cuts great. But the rest of the line up i had to let go. Wasn't worth a second chance unfortunately. In one month I had 4 tools crap out. None usable. And during that time 5 tools were intermittently working. Which drove me bonkers.

I'm mostly an active homeowner, and I've had DeWalt cordless tools going on about 8 years now. I use them in a commercial environment here and there (helping my son). I've experienced some failures: 3/8" long-style ratchet didn't last but one use (seriously). Had a drill come out of the box bad. Had a sawzall not last one year. Thankfully, all warrantied. I chose to resell those and buy different models (no substitute for the 3/8" long-style ratchet, but I've lived without it fine). Some disappointments: leaf blower (just underpowered though no failures). I have an 8ah battery that's never ran all that well (more like a 2-3ah battery). Most batteries have ran well though. Some of the tools I've really liked: all the impacts except the DCF887 and first-gen atomic. My favorite by far is their new atomic impact, and surprisingly, followed by the basic, brushed impact (feels so good in the hand, very well balanced). The jobsite blower (although mine failed after 7+ years - acceptable by the way - it's amazingly powerful for its size). Jobsite fan (rafter hooks, runs a long time, pretty quiet). I love the giant, stand-up jobsite light. Warranty service is outstanding, however. I can literally email them and within a day or two have a prepaid label RMA ready to go. This is really what's made me stick with yellow-brand. I've warrantied probably nearly 10 items and never had any trouble beyond one battery got delayed return a few weeks. One other upside to DeWalt: you can get battery adapters for a lot of the other major tool brands, so I have some Ryobi, Bauer, and other adapters so I can use their tools too (things like cheap lights and specialty tools you can't get with just any one tool brand).

I own 7 Milwaukee tools and 3 batteries, 2 chargers. I have been very satisfied so far, I would put myself between a weekend warrior and a contractor. I own 3 houses and have done many projects on them and I built a barn with these tools a couple years ago. Only complaint is the price$$$$

Great video. I switched to Ryobi (from Makita) because I can justify replacing the tools after 2-4 years as they are cheap and still get the job done, and I know I abuse them more than they were intended for. I would certainly not be impressed if I had to do that with a “high end brand” like Dewalt!!!!

I have a lot of dewalt cordless tools as well and have also had a lot of failures. One in particular $1800 rotary laser that stop working within 6 months and was replaced by the warranty, and the second stopped working 14 months and wasn’t covered by warranty. I was told that it it wasn’t reparable and to throw it away. What a waste of money and will NEVER buy a dewalt product again, I don’t care how many batteries I have!

Moved on to Milwaukee when I realized dewalt was never going to fix their nail guns I’ve been very happy with Milwaukee

Your findings mirror mine. I really, really wanted to stay with Dewalt, but I can no longer justify spending money on a brand that doesn’t last. I’m trying Hercules, Porter & Cable, Ryobi, Rigid, and Milwaukee. I’ve been burned by Milwaukee in the past (about 15 years ago). Lately, I’ve been using battery converters obtained from Amazon.

My flexvolt tools are all working after 2 years. Grinder, skill saw, just bought the new 60v 12” saw and it’s worked sofar after a few months. I’m worried I’ll get in your situation. One skill saw, two drills, and a weed eater have all crapped out. The drills paid for themselves a thousand times over but the saw and weed eater were hardly used!!

Thanks for the reviews. Re. the sliding compound saw, Richard McMurray, from Finish Carpentry, went round and round with Dewalt over warranty issues. After three replacements he gave up on Dewalt.

I feel you... i own dewalt i own everything on that table plus. I also own a few competitors brands. I to have am disappointed in some stuff. Dewalt can't make a nailer to save their life, or a cordless 12" miter saw. Burnt the motor in that thing 3 times right at a yr everytime. I started with Ryobi and phased out when i realized the drills were not as strong or fast. I won't say any brand is better than the other, only some tools are better than others. I'll never switch as I'm so invested in the battery platform that i cant walk away from that money. I can say that there are adapters that can make me cross over some tools.... expecially nail guns

I am a builder and have many Dewalt tools and they have been great and I wouldn't swap my Dewalt framer for any brand .

i took the advice of a buddy of mine who did a bit of research into the cordless tool lines. . . he said "find the closest box store that carries a line or has their own line, pay attention to the warranty and your price point. . . go for it" i live near a menards, they have their own line of tools called master force and they spread the spectrum just like dewalt but with a slightly lower price point.. . i've had fewer failures and better performance out of those tools for their price than anyone i've heard talk'n about dewalt. if i'd not found and been satisfied with the specs and price point of the master force stuff i'd of ended up with a mix of milwakee and ryobi . . . have several 'front line' contractor guys down round my way that work every day all day all year round and they swear by 'cheapest stock tool at the most common box store' :) i've also heard, they're all made by some company in france anyway, a company calls these guys up tells them what they want, they make it and wrap it in their colors and badge. . . good luck though with what ever route you take, i know one route i'd take would be to reach out to dewalt and put them on the spot, you have enough of a catalog and platform they might pay attention. . . they should, word of mouth is a slow painful killer and the 'meh' dewalt response has been growing.

I moved from Milwaukee to Flex and will never go back. They are a little heavier than most others but a lot more powerful. Their chargers and batteries are also very good and twice as fast charging. Try the Flex you’ll become a believer

That's a bit painful to hear as I have quite a few DeWalt battery op tools. But I also have some Ryobi stuff because I needed the tool for a lot less use and was easier to get the less expensive one. I know my son early on recommended Milwaukee (he is a mechanic) which are nice but definitely a price factor there. I am renovating a house and once done will be a weekend woodworker so not contractor level use which has allowed me to use the tools with little to no failures for my usage levels. Considering I have the two battery platforms I don't see an issue with rolling over to Ryobi moving forward (or some such thing since my usage level is very much homeowner/DIY).

Interesting, I have a similar lineup including the fan and vacuum. None of the tools have had issues although I make sure I buy the HD or best model of each tool. Mine are all 2-5 years old and I'm just a hobbyist so none have probably had the wear and tear on them that your two years being used in a business setting likely does. I have had several batteries fail to take a charge and in each case had to short them out so they would function properly and charge. I didn't know this trick until I had thrown away a 5 AH and a 6 AH however... Ouch.

My suggestion would be to go with makita 40v XGT if you are a builder and are useing the tools all the time Flex has issues with there batteries leaking fluid or coolant but the warranty is great 👍

I have 84 pieces of FLEX tools, i dropped the drill until i broke the chuck warranty was easy, had a battery leak easy warranty. I am not easy going on tools but these things keep on going. I accidentally leave a battery in the element for a year still working. Be warned it is not good to use the Stack Lithium ion battery on the FLEX lights and the radio is not load.

That’s why I only buy the best models of each brand for Milwaukee, DeWalt and Makita. I just make sure I get great deals and use the Home Depot hack. I never pay more than 50%ish of what a tools retail price is. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Definitely feel your pain! My brand new Dewalt 735 thickness planer lasted 13 months before the intake rollers failed. To add insult to injury, I had to pay a lot of money to send it in for repair. Luckily Dewalt sent me a new one instead of repairing it, however I don’t have a warranty anymore. I also bought a new Milwaukee detail sander that lasted 15 minutes before it failed. Had to send that in as well and Milwaukee opted to replace that as well instead of repairing it. Hands down, Dewalt was the easiest to deal with as they kept you in the loop and turn around was fast. Milwaukee though……..let’s just say I’m not impressed

I have five different battery and charger set ups. This means that if a tool company sucks I can just dump them. I know this is crazy, but, i keep leaning more and more towards Hercules. I'm only two tools deep in it, but, they compare or exceed the same tool in yellow or red. That'd be the quarter inch impact and the 4.5 inch angle grinder.

been using ryobi for 1/3 the price and all the tools still going strong after 3 years not one problem, I think most ryobi haters are really dewalt and milwaukee salesman

I personally have as Many tools as this guy and I use them very heavily and they serve me very well I have some dewalt batteries from 2011 that work like new! I have had a couple of problems with the 71/4 circular saw and a impact but it was never anything hard to fix unlike this guy I am smart enough to repair my own tools and for $20 I put a new trigger in and it’s working like a champ. this guy probably doesn’t even know that the company that makes Ryobi makes Milwaukee and I have as bad of luck with Milwaukee as he said he has had with dewalt when the 18 V fuel came out I burned one of their impacts up by driving a few 3/8 inch self tapping screws only used it for less than an hour they are all made in china no matter what brand you buy anyway.

I'm not stuck on any particular brand. I just don't want multiple battery systems. I'm looking hard at Hercules or the red harbor freight system. Right now I'm using hart, which seems decent enough. My $$ is tiny so I don't have many tools. I'm not ready to swap pneumatic for electric. Lots of advantages with pneumatic tools. I do prefer electric over 2-cycle though. All the tool lines are like that. Even Milwaukee and Makita. It's not that particular model of drill that's the problem, just a random one here and there. I have owned numerous Milwaukee and Dewalt tools, and it's the same deal. Lot of those you showed as bad, I own and never had a issue. And I use them almost daily.

Aah crap! I've always looked at DeWalt being at the real "top-end" of cordless power tools.. I have two, a hammer-drill and an Impact drill - Hammer-drill chuck is done in and I thought it was me "abusing" it.. now, perhaps not! One big "negative" about De Walt in South Africa is that they are hellishly expensive, live mad expensive. People talk about "exchange rate" but even with that they are waaaay over-priced compared to other imported brands.. Anyway, loved the review.. another channel did a talk about the miter saw. After the second time of paying $380 dollars, he was told that there is an issue with the plug in power pack. Of course they would not tell him after the first time.

I have Makita, Ryobi, Skil and Masterforce (Menards). Generally I prefer my Makita but around here in Michigan it isn't cheap. The new Skil products are really nice and prosumer quality. Porbably aimed at a similar market to Ryobi. It is made by Chevron which makes Kobalt and Flex. I prefer Skil to Ryobi but that being said I do not have many Ryobi HP which many pros seem impressed with. Skil and Flex definitely have better batteries. The issue of Flex batteries leaking coolant was the first generation and apparently above certain temperatures. It has supposedly been fixed with the new stacked batteries. I have Masterforce corded and hand tools and so far they have been decent. Also comes with a lifetime warranty. In terms of bang for your buck quality, I think Metabo HPT is very underrated and if I had to dive into a system now I would consider it or Flex. Metabo HPT also offer lifetime warranty as long as the tool is manufactured. It also has an ac adapter and their multivolt batteries fit their 18V and 36V tools. However, Flex ended their lifetime warranty support at the end of 2023.

Dewalt uses cheap switches in there tools I don't know why the other tools burnout the mitersaw I know can't be run off the adapter it overheats it.

I have Dewalt and Ryobi. If Dewalt doesnt have it I find that Ryobi usually does. I have had the same Ryobi impact driver for close to 15 yrs and it still works perfectly. I bought a new Dewalt impact driver only to have the chuck fail immediately. I am not a builder but do landscaping so I use it more than a homeowner. Ryobi has better landscaping tools IMO.

Why I went with Rigid- lifetime warranty on everything (yes they have honored).

with the saw, dewalt even knows the adapter to plug into outlet is faulty. They may cover it, and tell you not to use the adapter.

Some people are using a bigger battery on models that are not meant for the tool. Ask me how I know.lol I put a 60/20 9amp on a 20v max It lasted 2-2 inck holes

I've used DeWalt for renovating my house, I got that SAME framing nailer for the framing jobs id be doing, I have the same conclusion nd had the same issues. Luckily I was able to take mine back because it was so new when I bought it. Most of my other tools I still enjoy but that nailer was TRASH!

It’s usually the owner. I still have my 18 volt combo kit from 1996. With zero failure from DeWalt since 1996. Nobody uses Ryobi on the job. Too bad you bashed in your tools and blammed them. The chop saw is a known problem. The transformer fries them. Fixed now. Haha

That issue you had with the Flexvolt mitre saw is a well known issue (and the reason I sold mine). You can get the motor fixed at a service center but they’ll tell you that you can’t use the 120v adapter or it’ll blow the motor again. Not really a standing endorsement of +800USD “quality” product.

I did had Flex tools you can't go wrong with Flex tools. DeWalt yes I had my problems straight out the box with clutch grinding I had a DeWalt fan nothing but crap and it felt cheap plastic feeling in some accessories tools. I'm just a Handy Man and now I buying tool that fits within my budget like Hercules BRUSHLESS from Harbor freight... great video

Used to be a big supporter of Milwaukee cordless. Until I bought a 5 piece tool set. The first time I used a hole saw in 3/8 OSB the plastic drive gear stripped. I took it to the Warranty Depot and was informed that plastic gears would be used to fix it. Got rid of every Milwaukee and went to Dewalt. The Dewalt flex tools were second to none for power. But every single 60 volt battery failed before the Warranty was up. I was told that my 60volt leaf blower had a faulty trigger which shorted out 6 batteries. The trigger was not covered under warranty. It was just over one year old and supposed to have 3 year commercial warranty, but not the trigger, so I was told. I even informed the manager that the tool was burning up batteries before the one year mark, as he had tried to find out the source of the problem. Unfortunately the bad problems of Dewalt, now became my problem, as they refused to honor the warranty, inspite the fact that I had almost every Dewalt tool available. They only replaced one battery. I have returned at least 20 Dewalt 60volt batteries, that were less than the three years warranty timeliness, but probably only half were replaced under warranty. Not an acceptable way to treat customers. Milwaukee may get another try. But really, bad experiences are hard to forget. The Milwaukee skill saw was completely gutless compared to the Dewalt, but the Dewalt batteries are too expensive for less than one year use. I have several chargers that have gone bad after trying the boost trick. A complete dead battery can be boosted using two wires to connect to a good battery. It does work to get a dead battery working, but suspect that it has burnt up several chargers in the long run. I totally admit that I put my tools to hard work, but I never try to abuse them.

I find it funny that one would switch to another brand based on else experience not knowing full details. Sorry to her anyone who spent money loose but I can't ever speak on other brands because I've used DeWalt all my life and never failed me yet.

I tell you that when it comes to power tools they land in two places. 1. Back of your tool truck/trailer. 2. In the scrap pile. I missed the days when all power tools were built from Metal! Either aluminium or steel, the plastic used in modern power tools allows the frame to tweek, pushing bearings and bushings out of alignment. Combine that with a hot day and the tool gets hot from hard work, Bingo, you got tool failure. Plus the motor shafts on DeWalt are to small, this allows the Rotor to wobble in the Stator and windings make contact, then Bingo, you got a smoking tool failure. Some of DeWalt tools use a bushing, not a bearing. In the old days you carried a oil can to lube the bearings. I am old school, No Allegiance To Brand. # 1 rule for me is, buy what is being used with success by your fellow craftsman! #2 rule is, Never tell your wife what you paid for a new tool and Never, Ever, Never tell her what you paid for the tool that is smoking as you throw it in the scrap pile!

I love DeWalt but if you’re gonna make a switch I’d recommend Milwaukee or possibly makita. Flex is super powerful, super heavy, super uncomfortable and super un proven. Warranty what you still can and good luck brother. I’m sorry to see you haven’t had success with the DeWalt line.

In my experience, the tools are fine. The batteries suck. I also have Milwaukee… really like them, but they are newer than my DeWalt.

Until recently i couldn't say enough about Ridgid product line. FULL LIFETIME WARRANTY! now with that said, their recent decision to make us mail or hand deliver tools to an "authorized repair center" is complete garbage. In my case the closest one is 65 miles away, ugh! But enough about me bi***in. I have had mine well over 10 years now and have gone through a dozen batteries and 8 tool failures all of which have been fixed/replaced free of charge from Ridgid. Just had to take them into (at the time) home depot. I was a contractor and now am somewhere in between and have owned pretty much all the colors but have noticed just like you that Ryobi (which i bought for my wife) works wonders and funny enough i end up using her stuff quite a lot(which i get a ton of flack for) so far i will stick with Ridgid unless the repair policy gets worse and if it does will continue with Ryobi. Good tools for not a lot of money. Love the review and the channel keep up the great work.

Thank you for making this video. I have only bought a couple Dewalt products so far. An impact and a drill. If it wasn’t for you sharing your experience over the years with this product I would have continued to invest in the Dewalt brand. (because I have the batteries already) Come on @Dewalt get it together! Here is an opportunity to make it right. (Or at least to make it better) you have already lost credibility. Have some integrity and at least replace this mans tools and save face.

I've seen a few videos comparing flex to other lines and in terms of power they usually come out on top, but it sounds like they removed limiters on the motor to get there, so idk how they would do in terms of tool life. Been running Makita professionally for 4 years and I've had one multi tool break in that time. Their cordless nail guns are worthless but everything else has worked great. After using a Makita saw I wouldn't run anything else. I run metabo cordless nailers which are fantastic. Milwaukee nailers have a bit more power than the metabo ones, but don't feel as good in your hand. I recommend all my apprentices to go with Milwaukee just for convenience sake though. As far as quality and availability they seem like the best option in the US. You can walk into any home Depot in the country and walk out with whatever tool you need.

The new Milwaukee not that reliable either. Both Milwaukee and DeWalt could be expensive to fix mainly you just could not buy just a switch, you have to buy the whole assembly attached to the switch like the controller and part of the motor or whatever. All that electronics sensitive to heat and stresses plus plastic will deform/melt due to heat from motor, bearing or gear failures. My old NiCd V18 Milwaukee and NiCd DeWalt have been reliable thus far just not the batteries. That DeWalt chop saw has a common know problem with the flex battery/controller. Old mostly all metal corded tools are most reliable keep on running after many decades, easy to fix when parts are available.

I was 100% Dewalt as a contractor until about 6 years ago. I loaded up every tool and battery I had and took them to a local auction company and replaced everything with Milwaukee. Absolutly no regrets on the switch.

I have both myself,, Ryobi still going, Dewalt batteries all dead, refuse to buy more.

Every brand portable miter saw are not well built. It's not just dewalt. Always choose corded for this tool onless you have no other choice

‘Battery system’... ain’t that the truth. When you start out your decision on that first battery powered tool pretty much sets your course on future brand acquisition. Everyone was buying DeWalt and I chose Milwaukee because... it had a good reputation and was red. Now every tool I have is Milwaukee. I knew Milwaukee made good tools back in the 90’s and so that pretty make guided my decision. Plus I wanted to be different.

Out of warranty? You referred to your tools not lasting not even two years and now being out of warranty. DeWALT tools come with a three year warranty. Which is it? Are they really out of warranty like you said, so they actually lasted more than three years? Or did they last less than two years like you said, so they're still under warranty?

You must be the unluckiest man in the world. I've had maybe 2 well abused impacts and one saw die in many years. The saw was clogged up with sawdust which is probably what killed it. The yard equipment I can't comment on other than a small hedge trimmer which has been ok.

Have you tried to determine why your experience has been so different - so much worse - than that of most other DIYers on KZfaq?
