Good video, totally understand your frustration. I do board repairs when ever I manage. Sometimes easy as a bad relay or capacitor. Boards are costly in Norway, so I try to repair. Good to have a working one to swap out so customer don’t need to wait. Keep the ones you “trash” and try to figure out what component that’s faulty. Sometimes schematics are hard to find. Depends on brand and the service department.

I once thought I had correctly diagnosed a faulty relay on an LG split outdoor board. Bought one at jaycar and soldered it in (fairly ordinarily might I add 😂 I’m no electronics expert) and it still didn’t work which was disappointing but good learning all the same.. my take on it is that there is so much that can go wrong in them that it’s less heartache just to swap the board.. Bring back the APAC units I say… Great content bros, really appreciate your honesty in them too 👍🏼

Hi Mitch, I had the same issue, U2-03. The reason of this malfunction was faulty K11M magnetic contactor on A1P board. It's located just beside heatsink element. Greetings from Ireland.

Great suggestion in the comments too about surge protection… I’ve seen a circuit breaker style installed in switch boards which protect the whole electrical installation, I don’t have any experience with how effective they are though..

Yeah for sure. I honestly didn’t know that they make surge protectors like the ones mentioned in the comments. I’ll definitely be looking into it. Inverter Air conditioners are so temperamental!

I had a U2 fault on a daikin 7kw wall mount. In the end it was a faulty condenser fan motor which blown a fuse in the board. I ended up soldering a new fuse into the board. Similar to the fuse that you was looking at. But I made it, that if the fuse went again it would be easy to swap. I was tricky, but something you could try🤔
@maracservices
@maracservices 2 жыл бұрын
That’s awesome. Unfortunately the problem isn’t the fuse on this one. All the fuses are fine, but the one on the right doesn’t have power either side of it. I think the PFC component might be cooked. These things are very temperamental when it comes to power surges aye. Also it would be good if all fuses were interchangeable.

I have had the same thoughts about repairing the boards but I always end up replacing boards if issue is any more then a fuse or easy fix. The wait time is really the only issue and that's out of your control. It is what it is.
@maracservices
@maracservices 2 жыл бұрын
I am the exact same. I have never tried to repair a board and unless it’s a fuse I don’t think I’m going to start now. The only reason I was contemplating it is because Daikin don’t have any in stock but as you mentioned, that and the fact they legitimately had a power surge that took out 3 separate circuits, it’s really out of my control. As much as I’d like to help the customer because they are decent people, it is what it is. I will be looking into surge protection though as someone in the comments has given me a link to some.

If you do find some type surge protection make sure to share on your channel because I'd like to do the same for some of the larger more expensive units. Not to worried about 7kw or less as the stock is quick to come in and keeps us working haha

It sounds easy in theory. Yes sure just soldier in a new component. Refit & away it goes good as gold! In reality it's time consuming & can be tricky. Not really a job you should be rushing to get done. Or shit can go wrong in a soldier drip. Ideally a bench with good lighting & no distraction. Part you want to replace ready to swap out. Bang bang all done. A phone ringing because the office want to give you extra jobs to do. Hurrying you up ...is not ideal. Plus it's time consuming pulling a board ..finding the part to swap out doing the entire repair & reinstalling the board. All good if it works but frigging frustrating if you achieve diddley squat F all for your hour or 4 on site fudging around attempting the lot. I've bridged my own wires across and done the odd easy fix if I believe it's worth a shot. Just to get something running. Sometimes my fix has payed off sometimes it was a absolute stupid waste of time. But ain't no VICTORY without the letters -TRY Never play with shit is a good moto to work by. Don't risk it ... leave any shit for a licenced plumber. Unless your the A/C Scat man & enjoy playing with shit & getting covered in it. & mostly been called a C!@# for trying to help someone despite your own warning bad idea danger will Robinson alarm sounding internally near your big heart that can't say no. Your nickname is CC... ur always getting yourself in a dip. Eaten & shot out completely covered in ...

I tend to quote some sort of surge protector / phase monitor on these type of units, often times boards are hard to get and im yet to find a universal replacement to atleast get the customer some cooling
@maracservices
@maracservices 2 жыл бұрын
What kind of surge protector do you quote? I didn’t even know that was an option to be honest. The only surge protectors I know of are the kind you buy at a hardware store that just plug into a wall socket. However I can confirm they don’t work.

Can daikin still operate with below 220 volts. Example the voltage range to 215?

Of course components can be changed. That being said repairing things on a board level requires electronics knowledge, it's not easy. It is also not feasible in the field. It makes me sick that such massive boards get chucked because of something like a one cent component being dead. Awful for the environment. It's not the techs fault that they have to change the whole board, just the way it goes. If the CPU is dead then yeah the board is not worth the repair. There is a company here in Victoria who specialises in repairing control boards for hvac. Cant remember the name.
@maracservices
@maracservices 2 жыл бұрын
This replacement board is $1013.24 from Daikin and I assume it’s just the PFC module that is dead. That’s why most of the units in the US are still basic old things (non inverter). The idea that inverter Air Conditioners are better for the environment might not actually be the case.

@@maracservices Oh man that's just nuts!! That much!!? Fk that. Yeah I like the units with a compressor, fan and contractor nothing else. It's definitely worse for the environment producing all this e waste. Not to mention the energy and materials needed to produce such products. In your experience how reliable are those actron units? I am considering one in the future.

@@PracticalCat yeah that’s direct from Daikin. Not to mention I get at least a 19% discount. It’s batshit crazy man. I’ve been in the industry since 07 and I have worked on carrrier units during my apprentiship and even nowadays that are 30+ years old and still going. Now the air conditioners have PCB’s, EEV’s, DC Fans, DC compressors and Sensors everywhere that straight up fail. So yeah I’m definitely a fan of basic because it works. In my experience Actron we’re more basic which I liked and they are Australian made I believe. So I’m a fan however for a long time they didn’t use inverter technology and instead used a soft starter. Those soft starters fail all the time. Iv changed heaps of them. Now I think the new units are inverter. So honestly, I can’t really argue for or against the newer units. But to answer your question, I like Actron units because they are more basic and are supporting Australia 🤙🏼

I agree, I like inverters but I’ll be honest, I don’t like how vulnerable they are. However the J and L series Daikins were inverter and were very reliable. I personally think they can make inverter boards reliable however only if they are made in quality countries (for example, Japan).

@@user-gk2ck4pr4g I agree, inverters are not reliable at all. There were more reliable on older model Daikins though. So I think the country of manufacture has a lot to do with the quality of the inverter board.

That means it has lost power. Make sure there is power at the air conditioner and make sure there is power on both sides of every fuse on the outdoor PCB. You probably have a faulty outdoor PCB like in this video.
@maracservices
@maracservices Жыл бұрын
It’s a power supply issue. I’d make sure there is power at the air conditioner. Also check to see if there is power at both sides of the fuses located on the outdoor unit. There is normally a few fuses. I suspect it’s a faulty pcb but something could have taken it out. For example, a faulty condenser fan motor. Just check all the components with a multimeter and megger mate. Goodluck!
