Breath of the Wild was released for the Wii U, the Nintendo Switch, and now rumored for the next console as well. At this point BOTW is going to be just like the Skyrim of rereleases for Nintendo.

Best way to boost Switch 2 sales would be backwards compatibility imo. That alone would be reason to buy the unit if previous gen games were playable at better consistent frame rates.

Sounds cool but launching Switch 2 w/ BOTW again whether in 4K or not would be a pass for me and not make me buy into the system @ launch. I already played, put 300 hrs into, and beat that game. I'd rather have the Switch 2 launch with a brand new game like an open world 3D Mario that is massive in scale like what BOTW did for Zelda.

When totk came out, they said there were so many dlc ideas for botw, they decided to make a full game out of it. So that makes me think when they finished making Breath of the Wild so long ago, they would’ve started another main Zelda game. So it’s not inconceivable that they could come out with something big that they’ve been working on for a long time.

Ugh. I hate when company resources are put toward remasters, especially for recent games that people still have access to.

A 10 dollar upgrade wouldn't be terrible... After buying the game plus DLC, to have to rebuy it would be foul .. problem is 30 million people bought BOTW... About 10 million will pay full price for sure if that's the way they go

They could meet us halfway on backwards compatibility... Digital downloads will be playable on the new system, but the OG Switch cartridges won't be.

The best possible outcome would be if they attached it to the original launch versions of the console. But they’re not going to do that for 3 reasons. 1. It makes too much sense. 2. Breath of the wild isn’t rated E it’s rated E10 3. Brand recognition for Zelda is already pretty high so they can get away with selling it by itself.

For me if they would just give us remasters of Ocarina of Time and/or Majora's Mask and just go nuts with the graphics and sound I would be very happy with that.

I don't think Nintendo would charge full price for a remaster, but I also don't think they'll let people pay a smaller fee to upgrade their old version lol. If they're going to make people pay for a remaster then it best have some actual work put into it. I'd be expecting much better texture quality since its apparently going to be 4k so they'll need to touch up on textures, and hopefully shadow resolution and draw distance gets a bump also. That's all it really needs, I played it recently on PC with the cemu emulator with 4k and a locked 60fps and it's much better experience then the stand version lol. I'd buy it again if they're adding in a trophy system to the switch...something they should have had for many years now !

No, you don't have to wonder if there will be confusion between the Switch version of a game and the New System version. Playstation and Xbox have both used discs for all of their consoles. That's nine different machines. Then there was the Dreamcast and other competition that also used discs. And then PC. We never had any issues of confusion with any of that. It's almost like we label them and even put them in color coded boxes. We even managed to figure it out with 3 different Gameboy systems and like 7 DSs.

I always find it weird when a company won’t confirm bc. Makes me think the decision came right down to the wire because of greed and fear of backlash

I can see Nintendo having a $10-15 upgrade and a limited run $80-100 special edition of the game for the new system.

I’m with you on the backwards skepticism, my reasoning is the same, they have never done it, it would be the typical initial outrage then we all will line up to buy it. I would just like some consideration for owning the older game, but let’s be realistic, that will never happen

Let’s assume that switch 2 is backwards compatible why wouldn’t Nintendo launch or release during the launch window a Zelda breath of the wild enhanced edition? It would certainly make more sense for Nintendo to release an enhancement patch. I also believe that if Nintendo were to release a Zelda port, it would be tears of the kingdom.

I just need my switch 2 to be able to play my switch games. Even if they’re not enhanced what matters most is ‘will my switch games work or not?’

For me, I would rather get these as upgrade packages when playing on Switch 2 & support the next installment of the franchise. Same with the xenoblade games, etc.

$15-20 upgrade would all i would fork out for a Breath of the Wild upgrade. I still haven't purchased Tears of the Kingdom exactly because of this potential upgrade.

I live with my mom. Banquet could be codename for Kirby. If Breath of the Wild has a 60 FPS mode I may consider buying it. Improved quality probably wouldn't matter much to me since my TV is not 4K. BOTW was $60 wasn't it?

It's Nintendo, their games do not drop in price. Tears of the Kingdom was $70 as a test to see if people would pay that amount. We did (myself included). Why would Breath of the Wild (remastered) cost less? Nintendo will most likely justify the higher cost by saying it's running on new hardware.

Would be cool if folks who have already bought it could just buy the patch.

This did initially make me question the backwards compatibility idea, but Twilight Princess was released for both the Wii and GameCube, and it was backwards compatible. I'm thinking this is going to be a Botw that was specifically modified to be a showcase for what the switch 2 can do.

This June we'll be holding a Nintendo Direct on the Nintendo Switch 1 software lineup for the second half of 2024, but please note that there won't be any mention of the Nintendo Switch 1 successor during

Nintendo doesn't have a great track record of following up a successful console with another successful console. Paid upgrades, especially at full price might be a bad sign IF this rumor is true

At this point, Nintendo is working on the major titles for their next system, which is why they aren't releasing much for the Switch this year, they want to be ready for their next console. I'm looking forward to see what their new system is going to look like and how improved is going to be graphic-wise. If its at the very least on par with the Xbox series S, I'll be happy with that, but if it can be on par with Series X and PS5, that'll be great too.

I mean... Shin Megami Tensei 5 Vengeance will release on the Switch soon for full price. Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree edition will release soon for full price. These are essentially the same games, rereleasing on the same consoles they released on years ago, only with their DLC packed in. So, why shouldn't BOTW come out on NEW hardware, seven years after its initial release, with DLC packed in PLUS enhanced features for full price? This is being done constantly.

RGT… what sense does it make to release an upgraded version on a very small platform at launch when the original BOTW sold 11 million +???? They are going to do optional publisher updates to current gen titles for the next switch console. There are going to be many much desired switch titles that will release on the original hardware well after launch of the successor. They aren’t going to abandon a market of 140 million + customers. Again, current titles will get a switch 2 bump in performance and titles like BOTW & even Mario kart will continue to sell more copies to a growing ecosystem that includes both platforms

I hate to get my hopes up (or anyone else's hopes up), but I would really like to see a BotW Master Quest edition, like we saw for OoT on GameCube.

There was backwards compatibility from the GameCube to the Wii, AND there weren't any remakes or remasters on the Wii, with maybe one or two exceptions. I imagine this will also be the case with the switch 2. Nintendo (and third parties) might charge an upgrade fee, but I don't think this will be the big deal people people are making it out to be

Honestly I'd be upset if there was no backwards compatibility. There's to many good games on the switch. And I don't want to have to keep both a switch and switch successor out and hooked up.

Or something that would make people more interested and willing to pay full price would be a combo of botw and totk, both upgraded and combined into one game so that when you finish botw the game continues right into totk. Would be awesome, but unlikely I guess. But is there an indication of how close it is to completion? Because if it might be early in the process then it could be a prequel, thus adding a zero to the name like jujutsu kaisen 0

I want a Tears of the Kingdom update. I have not yet played TOTK and at this point I’m holding out for a Switch 2 version.

I know Nintendo released a physical complete with DLC version of Breath of the Wild in Japan, but if they released it in other regions as well, I would've double dipped and bought a copy just to having everything on the cart. With that said, I definitely would buy a physical copy of an enhanced version for the Switch Successor, even if I could just pop in my current Switch cart and pay a small fee to download an upgrade patch. Also, it seems obvious the DLC would be included and actually be on the cart as well. With my favorite games, I don't mind buying it a second or third time, and that usually applies to Zelda.

I assume BOTW enhanced will be the only BOTW available on Switch 2 while BOTW will still be downloadable if you own it already.

I would rather to see a modern remake ocarina of time than an updated version of BOTW or TOTK since they were on switch

It's probably going to happen like this they will sell the remastered version but also an upgrade pack for those who have it already that way they make money both ends

What if they were making a Breathe of the Wild trilogy?! I mean, what if the long development cycle for TOTK was long was that they were developing more than one game?

If they try to resell me the whole game I'll pass, I finished it anyway, but if they do like a $20 upgrade fee, I'd be ok with that for the convenience.

Just make it a $10-$20 upgrade and call it a day. I won't put an extra $60-$70 on just enhanced features. To each their own, but to me thats a waste of money that I can use on an actual Switch 2 game.

The game will be 8 years old when switch 2 comes out. And if Nintendo will have it as 4k 60fps along with possibly new additions? Then yeah they should sell the game for 60-70 dollars. Preferably $60. If people don’t want it then stay with the original version. Not a problem

I don’t mind the frame rates (I play BotW on Wii U), but it’d be nice to have update visuals, it is a 7 year old game, it could do with some modern graphical enhancements

Pretty sure we will get backwards compatibility with 99% of titles. Select titles will get an “optimized for Nintendo Switch 2” badge and will release for $70, while the base will be $60. If you already own the base, they will allow you to upgrade for the $10. Verification for all of this will be with the account system they keep referencing in official statements.
