But that still doesn't mean he is a bad dad or is a bad exemple. He simply as a different way of doing things and thats neither good or bad. And like you said, he isnt hurting anyone and at the end of the day it only shows how dedicated he is to make his kids happy. That in itself is an amazing thing.

Being a good dad isn't about being perfect. Showing flaws helps parents learn that it's okay to make mistakes in parenting. My theory is that the writers started noticing the pedestal that he was put on and wanted to put in more flaws so parents don't pressured into being as 'perfect' as Bandit.
@Zazabazaa
@Zazabazaa Күн бұрын
Also, even when parents are bad in little kids' media, they usually don't address it. Which is what makes how they hold Bandit and Chili accountable when they mess up all the better. It shows an example to parents of how to be imperfect in a way that doesn't leave a child either holding your flaws on a pedastle or making them see you as delusional. You don't have to be perfect, but you need to learn how to hold that side of you accountable in a way that'll also teach your kid how to handle being in the wrong

Bandit not being perfect all the time makes him a better character, and anyone who thinks he's a bad father is blowing his character flaws way out of proportion. The writers were making sure to reinforce the lesson that no one is perfect and expecting someone to be is unrealistic and harmful, which seems to be a lesson these people haven't learned.

In the episode with him leaving to go on his business trip and not telling bingo. I never took it as him forgetting to tell her, I took it as him not knowing how to break it to her. There are times where telling that kind of thing is really really hard and you don't know how to phrase it. Especially with how we see the girls react to him leaving for his day to day work, a few weeks was going to break their hearts and even though Bandit could have ripped the bandaid off sooner, you still feel bad when you hurt them ripping the bandaid off. He was probably going to tell her and Bluey that night with Chilly to help support the girl through the sadness, or maybe Bluey has seen him leave before and that was Bingo's first time. Either way, from my pov, he might have been stalling it for himself as well cause its hard telling your kid you're gunna be gone.

Anyone who claims Bandit is a bad parent makes me wonder if they understand what the point of a TV show character is. It's only natural that as the series progresses that we are allowed to see more cracks in Bandit's ideologies and mistakes he's made. But it's obvious to anyone with their eyes open that he's done way more good than bad, and it's hard not to be grateful for that. I just hope I don't see people claiming that Chilli is a bad mum next time lol

Honestly the only time I thought Bandit REALLY messed up with was Obstacle Course, because of him getting caught cheating, knowing he was cheating, getting CALLED OUT for cheating, and yet he’s still not admitting it, but that’s him being competitive and he does make up for it with Memory Snap despite STILL not being willing to admit he done cheated. And Bandits competitive, it’s established early with such things like the claw game: he knows that having stakes sometimes makes things more fun, and he plays hard and plays to win. And honestly he’s got a point- the world ISNT gonna become easier for you just because you’re struggling. Bandits a GREAT dad. He’s just a FLAWED dad.

I have a note for curry quest. I have a three year old who has some anxiety issues. We can't tell her big changes right away and need to pick and choose when to let her know change is happening. Daddy is going to work and wont be back for a bit, is a hard change to explain to a child who might not be equip to hear it if told ahead of time. Some children need a different approach when it comes to dealing with news. My child gets super anxious if they are told infomation too early, even if good news. We treat all change as adventures which they love as they now know somethiny is going to happen, sometimes good or sometimes not as good. Farmers market, visiting family, work trips are great ways to treat a sometimes occurrence instead of the normal occurrence. We have handled work trips in the same way as bandit and it works great with us.

I’m very surprised that some of the episodes where he straight up bribes Bluey and Bingo with money and such weren’t included lol. Even Chili has commented on how that tactic doesn’t make for good parenting. It does make me laugh however, because it’s extremely realistic to some degree. My dad (and even my mom) were victims of bribery to get me or my sister to do things sometimes. “Yes, I’ll buy you an ice cream if you stop having a tantrum”, “Okay, you can have the stuffed animal if you stop begging and let me finish grocery shopping in peace”, “Fine, I’ll take you to McDonald’s if you promise to stop being mad at me!”. By far not their strongest parenting moments and I’ve been told that’s often when they’ve just been so worn down that they don’t care anymore in that moment. It didn’t happen often though, it was just sometimes really exhausting having two young children who were really close in age gang up on them all the time 😂😂

They say Bandit’s a bad father as if he’s supposed to be a “perfect parent who can do no wrong.” No parent is perfect! A kid’s cartoon that portrays a parent as someone who never makes mistakes sets up an unrealistic stanard for parenting. Even the most caring parent who loves their children more than anything is gonna make mistakes here and there in parenthood. Chilli has literally said it. “Wanna know a secret? We all fail Mum School sometimes.” And Dads fail Dad school sometimes! What makes Bandit a great father is when he does something bad or makes a mistake, he will recognize it and change to be better. Especially for his daughters! He may not be perfect, but he always does his best. Also. Bandit’s competitiveness is very relatable, lol

@@twothirdsanexplosive Mr. Rogers Neighborhood is better. Daniel Tiger wouldn’t have those songs without the original show. Plus Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood ruins the lore that Fred Rogers had for those characters. Daniel Tiger (dad) is supposed to be an orphan and Granpere (the grandad) was just a role model. There’s just a lot that was changed and the so called “updates” were unnecessary. You’re better off sticking with the old original puppet show. Edit: especially because you get the exact same songs and more. The cartoon removes some lyrics.

I feel Bandit is used as a catalyst for the "valuable life lessons" in the show. You mentioned this to a degree but it holds true through almost every episode. Without his actions and the immediate feeling it gives the kids, a lot of the lessons would be lost. They experience the lesson in real time through Bandit's "flaws" and can immediately understand why the lesson is important. This also translates to the viewers of the show as they can watch from an outside perspective.

I think if you are so intent on focusing on what is bad about a character, you’ll eventually find numerous reasons to not like someone and ignore everything that is good about them. From all three seasons, Bandit’s good parenting skills totally outweigh the flawed and I don’t even think the flawed aspects makes him a bad dad, it just makes him human (or dog in this case).

I feel like Bandit and Chilli both illustrate the idea that kids benefit from diverse approaches to guiding/teaching. Bandit is generally more silly/playful, and Chilli is more responsible, though both demonstrate traits of both at different times. But sometimes Bandit is the parent more suited to a situation, and sometimes Chilli is. No one person can do it all - kids thrive when a variety of approaches are available to help them learn in different ways in different situations.

Thanks for this Pugly. Nobody's perfect... everyone commits mistakes, everyone can get exhausted or overfilled, everyone have bad days once in a while; there's not such thing as an idealistic "PERFECT" etiquette, it doesn't exist... we tend to err, it's only human and as realistically built characters this isn't the exception for the characters in this show either. Let's give a concrete example, shall we? Mini Bluey, for this episode, people take his comment to far, sure, it is scientifically proven parents grow more attached to one of their children over the rest (this can be unconsciously, like the Heeler couple's case or not). but let's be honest, it's have been assuredly proven they absolutely do not pick favorites. On that occasion Bandit took the game's liberty to express without thinking, but showed deep regret after being remarked by his wife about his comment and after they left, what they truly referred to was the game itself, how having 'Double Bingos' is more useful than having 'Double Blueys', nothing to do with 'who does he loves more over who', and it was maybe a mistake to let Bingo cheer up her sister by herself (probably by her being easy to cheer) but we know these two, and it's almost a fact they apologized to her off-screen (not shown to probably remain the humorous conclusion). Not defending his actions, they were wrong (and he knows it) but knowing them it's sure they made up afterwards; after all, we only see snippets of their daily life, it simpy goes on without our witnessing. Now talking about Obstacle Course, we've been shown Bandit has an overcompetitive nature, tending to tease, and in this episode this goes a bit too far expressing once more with his daughter, and having some less than ideal actions like yanking her off the race, but it's honestly just his competitive spirit shining through, not a justification but serves as a perspective to understand his process of thought... And the list goes on: him bribing Bluey in Dance Mode, fluffing on his daughters face in Family Meeting, forgetting the bag of important stuff in The Pool, throwing Bluey's drawings without asking her in The Dump, his constant tearing in the homonymous episode... but again, that's what makes these characters complex and human (well, canine in this case). I personally don't think there are never true "off-character" incidents on this show, rather showing complex facets on them, and giving them intricacy, and "out of character" instances only gives him complexity and tridimensionality. But the man has a heart of gold. Take Takeaway, the man clearly had an exhausting day, and wasn't really in the mood to play with his daughters, but their laughter (and that fortune cookie) made him realize this, finally regaining his usual cheery attitude, another example is Bedroom, and yet he stood to carry Bluey's bed from room to room thrice; he's not always joyful, he has bad days as anyone, gets carried by his emotions as everyone, gets frustrated or devastated as everyone (Fairies, Stickbird, The Sign), but despite all his mistakes and everything... he IS a great father. And that's the face we all know and love about him, a cheerful, commited and loving man who loves his family dearly and would do anything for them; he's always there for his daughters, always commits on their games just to make them happy, always give them a great advice and a lesson to learn... it's beyond unnecesary to appoint this for people who know the show, but the point is, by the show's nature, any of these characters are stick to a permanent trait nor are treated as tools, they are treated as people... imperfect, lifelike people who err, and a couple mistakes shouldn't undermine how astonishing Bandit is as a father, for real life.

I think Bandit was great in every season as a parent. He’s largely shown for his positive moments and I think it’s great that he’s seen as a benchmark for parents to try to attain to. However, no parent is perfect. Whilst watching the show there were moments where I was like “Bandit, what are you doing??” But it never took away from the episodes and I never went to the next thinking he was a bad parent. I think he’s a *realistic* parent. I’m a childless adult, but seeing Bandit make mistakes that he’s sometimes called out on makes my experience of relating the show back to my own childhood that much more realistic. My dad doesn’t have the same flaws as Bandit. But he does have flaws and he did mess up sometimes when raising me and my older sister. It made Bandit as a character feel less like someone I WISH my dad could have been and instead more like a dad who my own father WAS sometimes. As I said, maybe not in all the same ways. But just like Bandit, he messed up sometimes. And just like Bluey and Bingo, we were sometimes hurt by these things. But just like Bandit my dad always strived to be better. I celebrate the episodes where he’s not a perfect parent sometimes, lol!

For Unicorse, I'm sure you're covering it in a later in-depth, but to me, Bandit is doing a sacrifice. Chillie is getting agitated and Bluey is barreling towards being caught in a souring mood from Chillie, so Bandit becomes something of a lightning rod through Unicorse. It's an extremely delicate tightrope walk, but Unicorse perhaps more than almost any other episode shows how in tune Bandit is with his family's capacities and emotions, and understands that he can redirect the frustration from Bluey towards Unicorse/himself. It never crosses the line to me, because he understands both their needs and limits. At least that's my interpretation.

Mini bluey is the true start. It’s one thing to make your child feel like they’re loved less than there siblings but he didn’t even apologize. He just went and read the newspaper like he didn’t even care! I know this situation would’ve happened in a different way even if Bingo wasn’t born. But the very least he could have done is apologize. If it was me in that situation and I made my child feel less loved I would apologize if I had to cross the ocean. Now bluey may be carrying this for the rest of her life wondering if her parents actually love her. That’s just not something you say to a child with siblings.

@Magulousmous Look I admit and stand by the fact that the heelers are a thousand times better than horrid Henry’s parents in several ways. But seriously bluey is six years old. Six year olds can be a handful and we know that is a very emotionally sensitive age. Children often hear things in very ways than adults do. Plus let’s not forget bandit’s reaction in the episode kids when she pretended to be the mother and told diddums that snowdrop was her favorite.

The most powerful words I've heard from Bandit wasn't the speech he have to a tennis ball in a beer cozy. It was: I'm sorry Those two words mean more than anything else I've heard him say. None of the lessons (not that they didn't mean something) could compare to those words.

I grew up with an abusive father and I work in a setting with kids who've been taken away from unstable or dangerous homes, and I can tell you right now that Bandit is nowhere NEAR the title of "bad dad". He's a flawed guy, and that's fine! He's competitive, prideful, and stubborn, he doesn't have good foresight, and sometimes he goes a little too far with jokes. Some people might take offence to that, and it's understandable. But throughout all of the episodes, I have never seen Bandit ever deliberately hurt his daughters, and when he does make mistakes, he makes sure that he apologises to his kids, or that he makes it up to them in some way that makes them happy. And the Bandit haters seem to forget all the great things Bandit does with Bluey and Bingo? He's always playing with them and taking them places. He takes time to explain lessons to them, and I've never seen an episode where he yells at his daughters when they make mistakes. He was very supportive of Chilli during her postpartum depression and took an equal role when Bluey was a baby. Above everything else, he always puts his kid's welfare first - proven by the episode, The Sign. He wants his daughters to have a good childhood and does everything he can to ensure it happens. Bandit may not be a perfect dad, but he is devoted to his family, and honestly I think that's what makes him a pretty great parent.

Bandit's main character flaw is his competitiveness. It's just good writing to give a character a flaw, and a good idea to show kids that even an overall great dad like Bandit has his moments where he's not so great. ps "4x" in a strategy game context is pronounced "four ex" and refers to explore/expand/exploit/exterminate. Games like Starcraft and Civilization.

Seriously those who say he’s a bad parent belong in a psych ward and need a brain scan. Something must seriously be wrong with them to actually think this. Who cares if he’s had his bad moments? You expect him to be actually perfect? I don’t think so. Even he says himself he knows he’s not the best dad in the world. Also why aren’t people talking about other cartoon dads screwing up and not saying they’re that bad? Think of Peter Griffin, Timmy Turner’s dad, Stan Smith, etc. It’s ridiculous people just go and force themselves to overthink this stuff after just a few small moments and not huge moments that other cartoon dads have done. Aspire to be Bandit when I’m married with children.😎

The problem with these critics is that they want PERFECT characters. Characters with no flaws, but only when it's convenient to boost up other characters. When a characters they hate exists, you make them the most flawed character in the show, being dumb, stupid, and overall rotten. People love Bandit not only because he is a good father, but because he's flawed. Parent's used to be seen as pinnacle people of morality, and this does work if your parent is at the very least doing there very best for the child, but there are people who watch Bluey in their 20's because of a troubled childhood, were they could never have a parent like Bandit, Chili, or even Lucky or Juno's parents. It's not just the great things Bandit does, but arguably the flaws he as that are recognized and owned up to, or at the very least rectified and punished in some way. It's therapeutic to see even a great character like bandit being put in his place when it matters and allowing him to shine when he needs to. The people who see Bandit as a bad father, likely either lived a very pampered life thinking anything less than the best is abuse, or people's who's parents sucked so bad that any negative thing another parent does makes them a "bad parent." I'm all for criticizing Bandit. I'm sure there is at least one episode someone believes his behavior isn't called out for what it is, but Bandit is far from a bad father. He is the pinnacle of not only what a good dad is, but what a dad can become.

One thing I think worth noting is that I think Fairytale could have made an impact for The Quiet Game. The jinx game that Bandit and his brothers did to basically "teach" him not to tease Stripe. When Bandit brought up the "quiet game" he did it as a way to get the girls to not be loud. Bandit did eventually tell the girls the truth, but they still kept quiet. This should go to show that keeping someone quiet as a game is not a good idea. I do like that Bandit admits his mistakes to his kids which is something that I never see parents do I'm real life

Bandit is not a perfect dad, he makes mistakes and that’s perfectly okay because he does own up to them and apologize to his girls. Even his attempts at teaching valuable lessons can be flawed and go wrong…a prime example is his attempt at the magic claw game in which he tried to teach the girls about responsibility and how life can be unfair, only for the game to backfire and nobody learns anything

I think he’s one of the best fathers. The love, dedication and effort he puts into parenting is absolutely amazing. I get he has some flaws and his bad moments but I’m a firm believer someone’s intentions, the majority of their actions and their guilt/lack of guilt matter most. *No one is perfect and we all have more severe flaws here and there.* And I actually love Unicorse. Yes, he’s annoying but it’s a fun way to redirect frustration. Sometimes when you can’t change the situation you need to redirect the frustration. It just helps.

Bandit’s flaws make him relatable but his better qualities stick out even more because of them. I initially thought Bandit was acting selfish and careless in various scenarios and instilling toxic lessons that would have long-term serious consequences to the kids believing being underhanded gets you what you want (which in real life people have suffered because of people in power). However, it’s pretty obvious Bandit has had to learn hard lessons as he grew up and faced a lot of hardships outside the main show. He really does care about his family and The Sign is the ultimate culmination of all of what has happened so far. Ultimately, I believe Bandit is a sincerely good father who is trying his best to instil healthy lessons to his children despite his flaws. His fatherhood overrode his competitiveness and he’d rather lose a job than lose his family’s long-term trust in him. I’m glad Bandit has gone through major character development. It makes his character shine even more.

i feel like i see this kind of thing in the fandom with several bluey characters. you sometimes run into people who really don't like juno, coco, or muffin because they find the kids too mean, bossy, annoying, etc. at least with bandit there's a sense of "he's an adult in charge of children, so we want him to act well". i still don't agree with it, because every good character has flaws, but i kind of get it. it's a lot weirder to me when it's a child character. because most real kids, if not all, will be selfish and loud and all those negative qualities at some point in their lives. it makes me sad that these child characters aren't given much grace either -- pretty much all of them have good hearts and kind moments, but they're still growing up, so they have to LEARN to interact well with others that got a little off track of the video lol but i guess my point is that, in general, there are people that watch media, see a character show any bad side, and immediately reduce that character to only being bad. it makes me worry a little! no one has to like any and every character, but to not even try to read into them properly completely misses the point of why the characters are written that way. i hope people that dislike bandit or any other character at least can understand WHY the character is written the way they are, and doesn't completely ignore moments where that character learns a lesson and gets better

The Squash episode isn’t an example of Bandit’s competitiveness. He’s clearly the only one at the end who is aware of what everyone wants, and he throws the game in a way where everyone thinks the other players are playing their hardest (Bluey is lying about playing hard to Bingo), without breaking the illusion that the girls are controlling the dads.

Considering dads in most forms of media, Bandit is an amazing father. He isn't perfect, but no one is. In most forms of media the dad is always absent, lazy, doesn't know anything about their kids, doesn't parent, etc. The list goes on and on. It is refreshing to have a father who is loving, learns from mistakes, teaches lessons to his kids, etc. They did a really good balance for a kid's show.

I think Bandit has proven himself to be willing to reflect on his actions that can indirectly influence his kids. His kids take those lessons to heart and have to learn that acting entitled, arrogant or underhanded is not only toxic but can have long-term repercussions into adulthood. Bandit himself had to learn that his cruel teasing ends up hurting people and that he felt under appreciated as a kid. It makes his kinder actions as an adult stick out even more. The Sign is him taking responsibility for what he values most: his family. Given the Australian economic landscape, most people can’t afford housing and most of the land mass is inhospitable due to the deserts surrounding the land being not built for living. Jobs are replaceable but family trust isn’t. Though given the idealistic nature of Bluey, things tend to work out for various reasons in their world. Bandit is a great dad because he takes responsibility for his actions and really does have his children’s best interest in helping them be good kind people.
