Other thoughts: I do not think it is moral to fight a war you know you cannot win or initiate one because you simply think you might win. You must be certain that you can win and your reason should also be a moral one. Considering the Sikh broke a treaty crossing a river with an army we could consider this an act of war without moral justification. I get that the Sikh may have been "responding" to some irritation aka excuse. However crossing an agreed-upon boundary into anothers domain with an army is commonly viewed as an act of war, the Sikh maneuvering was blatant compared to the British military buildup on their side of the river.
