The Didache, or Doctrine of the Twelve Apostles, is a normative document offering important information on the #liturgy of the 1st century. By anonymous authors, it contains rules for Christian life, content on church discipline and liturgical formulas.
Written in Greek between the 1st and 2nd century, it is thought to be a unified work, and is considered the oldest non-canonical Christian document. This is precisely why the Didache was placed at the head of the collection of the so-called Apostolic Fathers.
The Didache represents one of the first attempts at separation from Judaism. The text is deeply indebted to the Jewish tradition, but is centred on the figure of #Christ. It contains quotations from the canonical gospels, already widespread therefore when it was written.
