Hi everyone, welcome to Abbey's Kitchen! In another edition of What I Eat in A Day KZfaqr Reviews, we will be taking a look at controversial MUKBANGER and cheat day enthusiast Livia Adams from the KZfaq Channel Always Hungry.
TW: Today’s videos are particularly triggering for any of my followers who are currently or have previously struggled with disordered eating.
A reminder that everything in this video is for entertainment purposes only and you should always seek the advice of a health care provider for your unique case.

I only speak for myself and have nothing against Livia at all. That being said at the height of my ED I would watch her videos to validate that what I was doing wasn’t unhealthy (it was) I would also watch cheat day videos obsessively because I was malnourished and food was all I thought about. Her calorie counting, low carb food and obsessiveness is very triggering for me personally. Thanks for another great video Abbey!

Yea it makes no sense to me. I'd feel sick & wouldn't enjoy it. I eat really healthy but if I want a piece of mom's fried chicken I'll just eat it - I wouldn't stuff myself for a full day. I think people who do that are either just trying to get views on KZfaq or maybe have a binge eating disorder

The point where she brought a “nutritionist” on to justify her disordered habits and make them seem healthy, and then got him to trash anyone who might have a problem with that as being a “jealous hater,” was the day I stopped seeing her as someone who was misguided but nice. Right, if she honored her hunger that way everyday, she probably wouldn’t even have the appetite to eat that much on a “cheat day”. Or feel the need to have a cheat day. I always felt this about Stephanie Buttermore, before she became open about needing to change her relationship with food. She would also do massive cheat days, then claim to “intuitively” eat cauliflower rice and egg whites on other days- ie severely restrict while claiming to have “balance”. The thing is, viewers like to watch slim women eat excessive amounts of junk food. There are profits to be made 🤷🏾‍♀️.

if you watch stephanie's videos (pre all-in) you will see that she never restricted herself on normal days, i don't think she had an eating disorder, she just felt pressure to eat 'clean' and look a certain way, but never restricted or punished herself and had quite a balanced normal eating schedule, bar the cheat days
@emcauliffe8
@emcauliffe8 4 жыл бұрын
@@seerpou I disagree, only because Stephanie said that she used to have an "insatiable hunger" but wouldn't eat to fullness, which to me would imply she was restricting. That's my take on it
@JulietteVeronica1201
@JulietteVeronica1201 4 жыл бұрын
@@seerpou She did restrict pretty strictly, she just never documented it. She posted a few what I eat in a day videos and most of them rounded up to 1800 calories, which is good for most people. But then she admitted in her year long recap that when was competing in body building competitions she tried to hold onto her extremely lean physique longer than needed which I would have to guess would be around 900-1200 calories. And for the amount of weight lifting she did with that, that's dangerously low.
@seerpou
@seerpou 4 жыл бұрын
@@JulietteVeronica1201 that "900-1200 calories" is pure speculation hunny. she ate very normally, she just restricted in the sense that she stopped herself from eating 5000 calories a day because she was still hungry
@JulietteVeronica1201
@JulietteVeronica1201 4 жыл бұрын
seerpou The reason why I said that range is because in that same video (the year recap one) she said she ate roughly 900 calories for her competition. I didn’t grab it out of thin air. If she needed to eat 5000 calories to feel satiated during her all in process, I guarantee you she didn’t eat normally beforehand.

This is a common theme with fitness influencers and was part of a “guide” I used when my orthorexia was at its worst. I would see these really fit and toned people that I wanted to look like and copy their eating patterns: extremely restrictive during the week and basically bingeing junk food on the weekends. Which, personally for me, was not healthy mentally or physically for me. Nothing wrong if this works for some people, but when watching videos like this, especially as a younger girl, it’s easy to be influenced into these habits and can cause serious issues with food down the line.

When I was losing weight, I ate healthily (balance of fruits and veg, lean protein, and stuff like that), I had Doughnut Thursday to keep myself on track until the end of the week, and then maybe had some extra carbs or a non-fruit dessert on the weekend. If I wanted, I would do “burgers and beers” with a friend one evening during the week instead of a doughnut on Thursday. It ended up being half a burger and a half pint of beer. It worked really well for me! I have ocd, so it was really helpful for me to have a really standard routine for my treats.

I bet she would feel much better and less hungry if she divided her cheat day calories, evenly through the week. Rather than eating 1600 cals per day 6 days per week and 10,000 cals on a cheat day, she could eat 2800 cals per day everyday. The 'balancing' cheat days with restrictive days, is still a very disordered behavior. Her ability to eat so much in one day, suggests that she's still in a state of starvation.

I really enjoy these videos! I’m an RDN, so not only do I appreciate your fight against diet culture, but these videos also help me with how to approach these topics. I get really passionate and fired up about nutrition on social media, so my approach with these topics can be a little overwhelming (I get really sassy), because they upset me. Listening to you speak helps me mellow out and relax, and remember to communicate calmly and clearly, so my message doesn’t get lost in emotion. Lol.

I had to stop watching her as I found her videos sad and triggering - she so clearly still has an eating disorder, it's just a different eating disorder. The cheat days are crazy, no one would be able to eat that much unless they had an eating disorder (binge eating or bulimia). Even during my worst periods of bulimia I couldn't eat more than 4000, and even then I'd feel so horribly uncomfortable and wouldn't be enjoying the food after a certain point, I just felt a compulsion to keep eating with no control. She must restrict & over exercise to counteract the effects of the cheat days (she's really tiny), I doubt the 1400-1600 is something she does daily and even this is too little considering she works out. She seems like such a sweet girl I hope she can fully recover one day.

on one of her older videos she said that during the week she basically only eats salads and low calorie foods and goes to the gym. So yeah, that's a sub type of bulimia I believe, Eat a lot of calories and then restrict for a certain amount of time so she doesn't gain weight or feel guilty

THANK YOU! Thank you for acknowledging that some of us don't always get those cues. My background is likely familiar to you: born overweight, indulged eating in childhood, emotional eating as a teen, food addiction as an adult, then finally atypical binge eating disorder in middle-age. And yes, it's really true, I just did not feel hungry so would eat on the clock. Nor did usually I feel satiated, but would stop before feeling full as being full equates nauseated (due to gastroparesis). So, Abbey, here yet again is an example of why I love your videos. You're so MINDFUL!

Erik the Electric seems very similar to Always Hungry with both of them having an anorexic past and partaking in extreme food challenges. Last year, Erik's 100,000 calorie challenge popped up in my recommended over and over again until I eventually watched it. If I remember correctly, his goal was to eat 100,000 calories in 100 hours; it's doesn't seem like an attainable goal without the magic of editing, but he did eat enough to appear pretty unwell. Even though I'm recovered from an ED, seeing him sick was difficult to watch, and it just makes me wonder why eating past making yourself sick is thought of as something healthier than anorexia in some people's minds.

Abbey these videos have brought me so much peace as a woman who works really hard to stay in recovery. There are disordered messages everywhere disguised as “recovery”. Today, you’ve given me peace of mind with eating normal meals and snacks at appropriate times. I think a lot of us need to hear these messages right now. My mom is German too and she always makes salad dressing that are mostly vinegar with herbs and a pinch of sugar so I don’t find that too weird (not usually much if any oil). It’s such a slick road this topic. I have struggled for 20 years. I’ve been rejected treatment due to not looking sick enough when I was 94 pounds and literally being blown over if the wind was too strong. Now as a adult, even if I were to be accepted into treatment, it’s just insanely expensive, I couldn’t afford that. So where do you go? You’re stuck to just help yourself because you can’t find anyone who can help and when you open up to people, they don’t actually understand. (in my case, not everyone’s) so where do you go to try and find anyone who you can relate to. Most people go to social media. The good thing about that la you don’t feel alone and you can find help to ever put a slight change in you. The bad part, is there’s no right or wrong answer. I’m starting to truly believe there should be restrictions on who and who cannot post to KZfaq when it comes to certain things. I’m starting to believe the only people who should be able to post about food or exorcise are licensed individuals to do so, that way we are getting information from someone who has worked to give us that information. That information can be harmful to others, that’s clear seeing how eating issues have spiked since social media. It’s a shame that it is so hard to find any kind of help when you just want to be free, and the help you can get for free, may do more damage. 20 years I can’t ever get back and I don’t know if I’ll ever have that freedom at this point. It’s heartbreaking. Really heartbreaking.

Thanks for this video, Abbey. I see a lot of myself in this girl, especially in regards to restricting all day and then eating HUGE dinners. That are primarily vegetables. I think a lot of us recovering from EDs think that being able to eat these huge meals are a win; when in reality they are just a seemingly less harmful restrict-and-binge cycle. Your commentary on her habits has reminded me to eat more throughout the day to avoid this beahviour. So thank you again for sharing! And I hope this girl continues to get better. Can you talk more about the “last super” mentality more so addressing those who tend to overeat regularly with the intention of going on a diet of exercising later but doesn’t change their habits and continues to gain weight. I would be interested in your perspective on this. Thanks!

you can leave, she clearly exposed your disordered way of eating in this video and without hammering you like swolenormous, she did it in the nicest way possible and she’s just being logical, like honestly look at what you’re doing, this is clearly not ideal and definitely not balanced, it’s plain and simple DISORDERED

you also don’t get how this can effect people who went through the same thing yo go through, an ED, very inconsiderate, insensitive and hypocritical since you’re “recovering”

I used to eat like this and since I have been intuitive eating sometimes I think I am eating too much and get restrictive thoughts, but watching this I have realized how far I have come and actually don’t restrict and binge at all anymore, I’m eating “good” and “bad” food everyday, very informative thanks Abbey!

From personal ED experience, this reminds me a lot of the stage I had to go through post-anorexia. It's commendable she is trying to recover, but when I was at this point in my journey, I was still very much in recovery (even if it didn't feel like it at the time). It felt like I was controlling my food with these rules about eating next to nothing all day and then LOADS at the end of the day, but the food still had control over me. Livia is working her way through her relationship with food and I'm sure she'll get to a more balanced and intuitive place in time, as recovery can be a life long process and requires strength and resilience to get through! Sending lots of love to her and anyone else making their way the confusing journey that is food and our relationship with it xx

I would also like to mention that there are a lot of cuts in her cheat day videos and I am not sure weather it is for the purpose of the video or she actually doesn’t swallow her food.. I hope she’ll stay safe because she is such a sweetheart

omg I noticed this too! she seems to take a bite and either cut or show the camera the food so her face is blurry

I can’t say this with 100% certainty because I’m not Livia, but she does have a completely uncut cheat day video. I honestly think she makes cuts like that for time. It does take a gazillion years to upload any video longer than 20 min

@@AbbeysKitchen Quite obvious. You hardly ever see her swallow. In her previous videos, she chews, bites, chews, bites again, until her mouth is completely full. No swallow in between bites. Then suddenly she shows the food close-up to the camera (one burger or donut just as many times as she wants to spit out the food), there is an unecessary cut (why would you make a cut in the middle of showing your food close up for 2 seconds???) and tadaaam there's no more food in her mouth. She was called out on this several times before and as a result In her last few vids she does a lot of speeding up instead of the old trick.

I don't usually watch mukbangs, but I had clicked on one from Cheaplazyvegan(who I like and follow) because she was trying a new vegan item, and sadly there was a jumpcut with the napkin going to her mouth after literally every bite. I think so many people eating these large amounts of food aren't really doing so.
