Hi everyone, welcome to Abbey's Kitchen! In today’s highly request episode of What I Eat In A Day KZfaqr reviews, I will be taking a look at Adrienne Bailon from the KZfaq channel All Things Adrienne.
A few disclaimers:
1) The information in this video is for education and entertainment purposes only, so you should always speak to a health care provider about your unique health needs.
2) The recommendations for each individual meal I review is designed to give you a variety of ideas on how to optimize meals for balance, variety and satiety. Whether or not one individual meal or even one day is balanced or “healthy” does not matter in the grand scheme of ones health, especially if a person is eating in response to their physical and emotional needs. I give suggestions as examples and inspiration for you, but you can also gather this data for yourself over time by listening to your own body and figuring out what feels good.
3) Please be kind in the comments, here and on Adrienne's channel
4) TRIGGER WARNING: some graphics and discussions may be disturbing to some viewers so feel free to skip this video.
5) Don’t forget to subscribe to this channel and ring the little bell so you never miss out!

I am a retired ballerina. I’m talking professional, was in a company, and did it for a living. The amount of times I heard “I can’t believe you eat that” drove me nuts. Yes I eat bread! I eat cheese! I have oils and butters on things! I even eat cake. I probably used to eat much larger portions than most, but I was also dancing up to 10 hours a day. Which means my body needed fuel/food! I HATED hearing “wow you eat that?” That always made me feel more self conscious than being in a leotard and tights.

That’s so tied in sexism too... pretty sure male athletes don’t have to deal with the same kinds of comments. I remember one summer olympics when Phelps was swimming, i read an article about how he ate and the bottom line was something along the lines of “he swims 24/7 what did you expect”. The same logic should apply to all athletes...

Tbh you think people would clue into the fact that as a ballerina and a professional dancer your daily calorie expenditure would also be insanely high. Obviously youd need to eat! That's a very physically demanding career! Guess common sense escapes most people

@@MsRose00 I just read my msg and it sounded bad. What I meant is that she should not care for what people say about her weight. If it's gonna make her eat the way she is doing right now, then the media is not for her. She should not care about what ppl think, because ppl will always bash one another on social media and it sucks but sadly that's how it is. She should so what makes her happy, and that's not what she's doing

@MsRose00 3 жыл бұрын
@@saraeid8253 I understand that but I really wasn’t aiming that at you. There really does need to be a filter. And The Real even does a segment where they respond to social media comments. However, while I think that definitely gets to Adrienne, I also think she may be doing this because she’s been wanting to have a child and has been candid that it isn’t happening like she thought it would. I think she’s doing this extreme vegan dieting to prepare her body for a baby, if that makes sense. Her husband has three or four children already so I feel she believes it’s something “wrong” with her. Her husband is not vegan. So I think the body shaming and the not being pregnant as soon as she thought, has taken its toll.

Sometimes you have to prioritize your health over fun with friends. Being healthy can benefit you in the long run while having that temporary high you get from crap foods you may eat with yours friends is not worth. A lot of socializing I have noticed is revovled around food. You can have fun with your friends but its about doing it when it doesn't have to do with food.

@emmakilburg9221
@emmakilburg9221 3 жыл бұрын
NetaBell I 100% agree that being healthy should always be a priority, but that’s different than valuing your ultra- restrictive disorderly DIET which has only 1 goal- being skinnier than she clearly is meant to be (if you need to only eat 900 calories a day to be a certain weight, that weight is definitely too low for you) over being able to ever enjoy herself. A healthy balance would be still going out and only getting 1 or 2 drinks, or eating with your friends and ordering a salad most of the time but also not being AFRAID to ever get a burger. There is always a balance. It is important to be healthy, but is it worth being healthy if you are miserable (I’m not saying she necessarily is, but I know I would be if I restricted this much) all the time?

Yeah, unfortunately for us small women (I'm 5'1) we need less calories than the average person and any weight gain looks noticeable on us. Even my TDEE requires that I eat just below 1200 calories to lose a considerable amount of weight but anyone else would be starving on that type of caloric input. Even with that being said, Adrienne is still more than likely not eating enough to even meet her daily calorie needs. She should probably start by replacing her juices/smoothies with an actual meal on days where she isn't as busy.

Yeah I’m 5’0 and 105 pounds, if I gain 5 pounds, it is very noticeable. However, I do not think she is eating enough. I run 4 miles a day and I’m a maid so I’m constantly on my feet walking and cleaning. I need to eat around 2,000 calories to maintain my weight. If I drop below that I feel horrible.

Im 5'2 and I eat estimated 2000 calories a day (because I haven't tracked in many years so give or take) and i weigh 130lbs but then again I don't ever do cardio and I work a desk job. I do lift about 3 time a week for my exercise. 5lbs also makes a big difference on me, especially if it's 5lbs of fat and not muscle. Also I'm 30 and I believe the older you get, the slower your metabolism might get and the harder it is to keep it burning at the same rate. So a 20 yr old eating the same thing and working out the same amount as a 40yr old might be completely different.🤷‍♀️

Leah Brigman I’m 31 and I have pcos so my metabolism has always been slow. But because I run a lot I think it has kinda fixed itself. 105 is the lowest weight I’ve been in forever and being at the lower weight has helped my pcos symptoms tremendously.

My idea on the scale/self-evaluation thing: This is only my experience, but as someone with a past of disordered eating, I find that seeing body fat percentage and muscle mass (even though the accuracy could be questionable and I totally get that) has been super helpful in understanding that I can still eat enough consistently and still see progress. In the past, when I focused on just the number with weight, it was all about caloric deficit. Now, I find that seeing my muscle go up and fat go down while still eating plenty and being active, is the best for my journey now. I understand everyone is different and the obsessiveness of checking this could also come into play, but I wanted to share some potential positive points with the idea.

Some people need complete abstinence from sugar in order to avoid binging. I know plenty of people who eat almost no added sugar and are perfectly fine. In fact, it’s much better for them since they tend to overdo it. Not everyone can do moderation. I actually found this really scary, so many of the things she says are thing I would tell myself when I was anorexic. It's genuinely scary to see this being promoted to people, especially people who may be vulnerable to eating disorder tendencies. This sort of mindset is something I was proud of having during my eating disorder and has took a long time to get out of and be healthy again.

A question from me: While of course Adrienne was dressed, I was a bit struck about her apparent lack of muscle. The woman is a dancer, but the area above her knee, where her quads should be, was totally sunken in. I have seen that on myself after knee injury/immobilization. Could it be she is actually eating too little to loose fat and build or keep muscle? Is there such a thing or is that bro science?

This is completely 100% a real thing. You cannot build or maintain muscle when you are in a major calorie deficit. Your body prioritizes where it puts its energy, and maintaining/building muscle is not a priority when you are starving yourself.

Love this analysis! I'm still in recovery from my eating disorder, so watching her initial video reminded me of when I was first starting to engage in EDB's. That's a lot of soup and veggies for one day. I was always taught that variety is key when it comes to healthy eating. Have soup one day for lunch but the next day have like a hearty salad, or sandwich, etc. That way you won't miss certain foods from your life too much and you can avoid binge eating on them later.

I honestly can't wait for her to come out and say: she starved herself alot and developed a unhealthy relationship with food, and what she did is WRONG. Her video is alarming, she may be content from the exterior, but the interior is for sure struggling, if she stays like that she might end up in the hospital and will finally receive her wakeup all. Also Abby, one of the main reasons on why she chose to eat "healthier" and change her "diet" is to conceive a baby as she has been struggling for few years now. I wish you knew that so that you can raise some important elements/advice in your video but oh well

In that case, someone needs to tell Adrienne that severe caloric restriction can actually accelerate infertility, rather than treat it. I empathise with her massively - my husband and I are struggling to conceive and, unfortunately, this journey has awakened my past trauma around food and body image. But seriously…whoever gave Adrienne that diet advice to help her conceive needs to be struck off.

Sometimes I do feel "hungry" when I am actually thirsty, though. I'll be craving something with high water content like fruit and then I'll drink a glass of water and realise that's all it was. If I still want to eat after that I'll eat, but a lot of times I don't crave anything anymore until I want my next meal. I don't use water as a meal replacement, I just make sure I'm well hydrated regardless.

I kinda questioned that as well. Most adults, I forget the percentage, are chronically dehydrated. Indeed most of the lab work I see on admissions to the hospital bears this out. I will accept that mistaking thirst for hunger may not be the cause, but something is causing this problem??? Why are so many people overweight and chronically dehydrated?

Also, the whole “self-discipline with food can improve every area of your life” mantra... is a crock. I managed to ‘discipline’ my eating for years (restricting) and food consumed my every thought, and there was zero discipline left for other areas of life: my work, classes, other goals, even cleaning the house-nothing else got done.

I can’t wait to eat ‘pure’ and then have to stop in the middle of my next activity for a cleansing diarrhea break. Joke’s aside: these videos are so helpful. Some repetition of information is a great reminder, and then there is always new information to learn. As someone recovering from ED, it’s so helpful to have these gentle reinforcements as well as introductions into new topics. Your videos have been so eye-opening for me, and I even have multiple journaling pages dedicated to checking in with myself and intuitive eating. It’s helped me slow down when I eat, feel my fullness (which I never thought was possible), and break some negative thinking cycles. You’ve helped me not fear food. Each of your video formats are helpful, but I take the most from these and the intuitive eating series. Thank you 😊❤️

That bit at 18:35, the “you’re not hungry, you’re probably just thirsty” really hit me. When I was younger, I remember reading posts online promoting this myth in particular and thinking “yeah, that totally makes sense!” It never occurred to me that this was wrong. Even today my sister said that she was hungry, and I absentmindedly told her that she’s probably just thirsty... !! Thank you Abbey. Thank you so much for calling this out 💕
