For cannas in cold climates, you have two choices when it comes to what to do with them when the growing season comes to an end.
1. Leave them in the ground where they will freeze and die. You can buy more cannas next year.
or
2. Dig your favorites and overwinter them.
I choose option number two and it's a labor of love. But it's totally worth the effort! Trial and error has helped me figure out what works best and within my budget.
I also learned something interesting about canna rhizome size and how well they'll store. In this case, size DOES matter!
