First of all ... YUM on the cooking !!! Looks sooo good. Happy birthday Nate! 🎉🎉🎂🥧🍹🎈🎁, Jes, you should do more cooking movies and rock polishing movies when the garden has gone to sleep for winter. !! That would be so great. Absolutely gorgeous hostas planted BTW and that bench looks so great too 🇬🇧 ❤ 🇺🇲

Incase no one tells you; the only way you can get the same flower is to keep the roots or have only that plant to pollenate itself. The seeds from the flower that you love will be pollenated by another flower so the seeds will be a hybird. I do so much love your videos and learn your design thoughts!

Wow that opened up my garden so well. And now I can plant something else in there that we'll look so pretty, and it well rest your eye on something so much nicer 😊❤ so thank you, Jes, you are a special dear thank-you for sharing your many talents with us 😊 ❤ I seen on here many were wishing Nate a Happy birthday well I too want to say Happy birthday Nate 🎉🥳🎂🎈God's blessings to you both and Max 😊❤ have a beautiful blessed weekend 😊❤

Hi Jess. I planted a drift of Irish Eye Hostas on South side of my house which gets partial sun & they are glorious. They come up early Spring & last until Frost. They are variegated, Bluish green foliage with cream/white outer rims. If you can get your hands on these try them. You’ll be stunned. I got them from Home Depot a yr ago small quart size & they doubled in size this yr. I don’t blame you on getting rid of Hostas due to lack of performance. I feel the same way. Im noticing more of the longer lasting variety that I rather want & spread in my garden.

When you save seeds that bees and other pollinators have landed on, they cross pollinate and you will get new colors. You won't necessarily get the same colors as the year before. I saved some yellow petunia seeds from last year, and you would not believe the different colors that grew from them this year! Some of them were similar to the ones that I grew before, but most of them were totally different, which I didn't mind. But that is something to keep in mind.. I'm sure you won't mind what color they are, but it's just something to keep in mind. I just learned this a few years ago. And if you want to save seeds from any flower, you need to leave the flower on the stem until it goes to seeds and the seeds mature first before harvesting them.

Next time get yourself some mesh produce bags and place the bag over the coloured flower you want and tighten the pull string and when it turns to seed or drop seeds they will all be contained in the mesh bag 😉. I did that with my columbine, worked great 👍. I know what you mean about hanging onto plants that you don't love. There are a few plants in my gardens that I don't like very much and I'm also in the process of giving them all away. Dont feel guilty, why hold onto something if it doesn't spark joy, like Maria Kondo says 😅. Love your videos and gardens, thank you for all that you do ❤

Jes, I love that you removed the hostas that you didn't love because you're right, life is too short to live with plants you don't like in your garden. However, it took me longer than 3 or 4 years to get some of my (undesired) plants removed. Nate's birthday dinner looks great. Happy belated birthday, Nate. 🎉🎈🎂

Your neighbor was correct about waiting until the flower head is dried before you collect them. They haven’t matured yet when they are green on the stem. Also don’t store your seeds until they are completely dried because they will mold. Good luck. Love your videos.

I still have to catch up on your previous movie. Things to do in the garden will not wait for better weather, because better weather is not something that going to happen for awhile. I got some raspberry bushes planted, 2 I believe Joan, and 3 fall gold. I still have to plant my bushel and berry raspberry bush, maybe today. It’s funny but I’m still tearing out raspberry starts in my new garden area and planting raspberries where I really want them. I THINK the ones I’m tearing out are black raspberries, not sure if previous owners planted them or they’re wild. I don’t care for them because they have very small berries on them. MAYBE I’ll save a start replant it and fertilize it and see if I can get bigger berries.🤞🏻. I LOVE raspberry almond anything I bake so I would like to be able to freeze some.🎃🍁🍂💚🙃

He’s another thought is to tie a ribbon or string around the ones u want and wait till they are dry. U will still know which ones they are that way. If u are trying to save more than one color use different string or ribbon.
@lorri34798 ай бұрын
Great idea! I was going to suggest a tiny sticker folded together with the color written on it, but your idea is better.
@truthtalker40388 ай бұрын
Unfortunately, it won't matter. When you save seeds from flowers, they have been cross pollinated by the bees. The seeds that come from a red flower might not be a red flower if you grow the seeds. It creates new colors when pollinators fly from one to the next. If you have a lot of seeds, you might get some of the same color but you will have a lot that are different colors also. I just learned this a few years ago, and sure enough last year i saved some yellow petunia seeds, and you wouldnt believe the different colors of petunias that came from them this year when I grew them. I didn't mind because I didnt care if they were yellow, but if you are trying to keep them for the color, unfortunately you might not get it.
@lorri34798 ай бұрын
@@truthtalker4038 oh I forgot about the cross pollination, but knowing Jes, she will want to test it. Who knows it might work.

When the hosta leaves start to shred and turn yellow in your garden, do you cut them all back for the winter? The birthday dinner you made for Nate looks yummy 😋
@patbryan6028 ай бұрын
I cut my hosta back to 3" from the ground so the leaves don't harbor slugs over winter, but I can see where not to walk, or plant, in the spring before the new growth emerges.
@jesthesinginggardener8 ай бұрын
sometimes if i have time. otherwise i just leave them til i get to them which is usually in the early spring. i don't seem to have issues with slugs though so that works for me :)
