My only suggestion would be I would have most likely used perf pipe to get that water out and I would have cut an angle at the outflow to match the ditch so water isn't getting trapped in the ditch. But that's just personal preference. Looks really good though.

It always amazes me how much soil dries out when the elements change and the area is opened up. Hopefully with all the work your putting in, the area should stay dry and will drain easier when that stream overflows, but it's going to be a close run thing. 🤗

From someone that does this for his business your doing it exactly how I would have done it we see this a lot here in Maine especially on in slopes. You can not go wrong stuffing a culvert in for nothing more then a french drain. I like to call it cheap insurance. I had a similar issue on a job when I first started 6 years ago and it was stressful but an old timer told me do it right and you will be good. Fast forward 6 years and its still mint

It’s a complicated drive with the creek, hillside, springs and lack decent fill for road bed. Your CLOSE to connecting the home to the road. Will be interesting to see how some parts hold up in years to come; but that will also depend on weather and load on the road. Not sure where your at but it’s probably mud season there so not the best time for road construction. But if you can keep it dry now it might be ok. Enjoy the videos!

Great video Todd! I do a lot of these road projects and driveways, seems I run into these issues a lot and I think your way of doing it is a lot better than what I do. It’s nice to see another perspective on handling these types of situations. Also I think you shouldn’t worry about the ney sayers it seems like no matter what you do in life there’s always going to be someone saying they would do it better or their way is the best way.

Its not a French drain at all. A culvert is not supposed to be covered with rock it is supposed to be buried in at least 12" of native soil (ideally clay) to distribute the weight. All that rock did is increase the chances of penetrating the culvert. Culverts do not release water into the surrounding area slowly - they act as channels for water to drain. The road fabric is still a good idea but the subbase should have been dirt then road fabric over it and then rip rap. There are free county road manuals online you can read that county engineers use when building and maintaining the government roadways.

I can't think of a better solution without digging down 2 to 4 feet and putting in a foot of railroad ballast along the whole road then compacting select fill types as you build back up and pave it. $$$$$$$$$
