I appreciate you doing the video at 4K despite the game only outputting at 1080P because it goes a long way towards getting around the compression issues of KZfaq and it really lets the visuals and art direction of the game shine.

Note: Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon is titled "Dark Moon" only in the US. The original name, and the european name, is Luigi's Mansion 2, that is also the title of the re-release worldwide.

For the price of $60 bucks? Yeah no. This game has no business being that expensive. It's not even 'Metroid Prime Remastered' (more of a complete remake in my opinion) level of quality graphical and performance conversion, and that game was only $40-50 bucks. However though, I am STILL glad that this game was even ported to the Switch with "some" noticeable improvements mostly to the number of polygons the characters got instead of a straight from the 3DS conversion job. Because I really so badly wanted to finish this game on my 3DS but never got around to finishing it. My Luigi's still stuck at the beginning of that old abandoned clocktower level on my red beat up N3DS XL to this day.

When I first played Prime Remastered I didn't realize how much better it looked until I watched the comparison videos. I'm glad they've made substantial improvements to this game as well. I really hope they do this with Link Between Worlds!

Holy shit. It's really impressive just how on-model every single little detail is. All new lighting, textures, models, rendering engine, and yet the color grading, shadow placement, and cameras all stay exaxt. Even the same raindrops fall in the same places.

I'm not interested at full price. If it included a remaster of the original it'd be worth it to me. Shame that the LM1 remake is stuck on 3DS, as this would have been a great opportunity to bring both games forward.

The clouds seem to be hard and angular on purpose for art-design reasons in the 3DS version, also see the toon-like skybox or things like fire effects, spider web or the bushes and gothic lanterns at 7:20

One issue I noticed is E. Gadd's call theme plays for a second before the results theme plays, and in cutscenes if the level has that, like after the spider boss when Luigi does a little dance and gets scared by a tiny spider from behind.

Meanwhile, someone else released three Spyro games or three Crash Bandicoot games for 40 euros.

Just out of a perspective of curiosity (not complaining), I really wonder why this is 30fps and not 60fps. When you look at other games on switch that are 60fps, I don't really understand how this couldn't run at a solid 60, with the overall play space on screen usually being limited to just a single room with limited visibility.

The first game is my favorite Nintendo game of all-time. Would really love to be able to play it on the Switch, even just as a port. Still, glad the second game is getting some love! The visual improvements are very noticeable and it looks good. Will be nice to play it on a bigger screen now that it's on a console. Looking forward to it!

It would be interesting to compare the models and stuff in this remaster with Capcom's Luigi's Mansion Arcade (which is an on-rails arcade adaptation of Dark Moon) since they probably go on different ways on HD-fying these stuff compared to the original 3DS game.

Admittedly the 3D doesn't work on my eyes half as well now that I am an older adult rather than a kid, even with getting a New 3DS xl. But I will really miss it on this game even if I am in the minority. I love this game and the 3D looked great on it I wonder if I can try emulating this game on a digital screen in VR for a higher resolution 3D screen, but I don't know if that emulator is Meta only or if it also works on PC headsets or if it supports upscaling. Would be interesting to mess around with although you obviously wouldn't get the higher resolution textures

I think the Luigi's Mansion games have descended in quality, at least in gameplay terms, compared to the original game. In the original, focus was on exploration and combat, and maybe a puzzle or two, but quite different compared to what they are doing now. The sequel introduced puzzles and toned down both the exploration and combat. However at least combat still felt decent, with the burst mechanic adding to the game feel instead of taking from it. And the levels, while divided into missions, still felt like you were exploring large houses, if not actual mansions. For LM3, combat is no longer a focus, and I would say exploration is lacking as well, since the levels are quite small and straight forward. Sure, it looks like a pixar movie in terms of animation and graphics quality, it's impressive to say the least, but gameplay? It got turned into a puzzle game. All the creepy atmosphere and theming of the original was completely removed, which while it wasn't a horror movie, it still managed to feel unsettling and slightly creepy at times. The combat of course, was dumbed down to "press A to win". It's no longer the intense fishing wrangle of the original, an aspect which I loved and dearly miss with the new games. There was a more, hands-off approach then, with you being pretty much alone to deal with the ghosts and explore the large mansion, instead of the more hand-held approach they using now, interrupting the gameplay with Egadd's messages and cutscenes all the time. They completely changed the gameplay, the artstyle, the atmosphere, and while I'm sure plenty of people love the new style, I miss the original gameplay, and there's nothing, no indie game, no other nintendo game or AAA similar to this. The closest is 2009's Ghostbusters the video game. They should have just created a new franchise if they wanted to change things so much. I guess it's similar to what they did to the Paper Mario series, so Nintendo has a precedent in changing things too much. I hope they realize this for the next game, if they ever make it, and go back to the creepier atmosphere and artstyle, the combat and exploration focus, and a singular, huge mansion for us to explore with, with ghosts that actually want to hunt the player down, instead of feeling like they just wanna tickle Luigi and put on a children's show.

I have a 3ds with luigis mansion 2 already and i havent played it. Do you think this game is worth buying? Or should i just play the 3ds version since I already have it? I will also say that i was planning on using this $20 eshop card to buy 2 game vouchers to get luigis mansion 2 and 3 so my price for both games would only be $40 does anyone think thats worth it? Or should i save my money and get another game with the 3xtra voucher im going to get instead?

I always find it a little odd when before is on the right and after is on the left. Maybe its because we read left to right, so I always scan across the screen from left to right, and chronologically the 3DS version was first. So seeing new before the old feels odd to me. Maybe its just me.

I remember seeing Luigi’s mansion in 2001 and I couldn’t believe the visuals, the animations and character. I instantly brought a GameCube and loved it. Well ahead of its time. This remake is worth the money. And I’d pay a lot for the first one again. Nothing but quality and care you won’t find anywhere else.

Any remaster of a game on portable device is worth. Let's admit it we love portable gaming but most everyone would take a big screen and looking forward than small screen and neck pain.

It’s worth it for me for the simple fact I just don’t like playing on the 3ds. Makes my hands hurt. So any of the great 3ds games I can use my pro controller is a plus.

Im ok with 30fps to be honest, uncapped fps in my opinion belongs on PC where you can upgrade your machine eventually. If you cannot make your game running on your console (whichever console) at a solid 144, 120, 60 fps, just leave it at a solid 30, specially on more powerful consoles than the switch
