This is NOT part of the 2nd Z/28 in Garnet Red being restored on this channel
This video is Part 4 of my Le Mans Blue 69 Camaro Z28 Full Frame Off Restoration Video Series. This video features the preparation and refinishing of the undercarriage firewall and fender wells. I will be showing each step of the restoration process of this restoration in real time. I hope it will be enjoyable and informative and I welcome all comments and input. I have posted more videos on the disassembly of this 69 Camaro Z28 showing the Dash Disassembly and both the front and rear suspension removal.

Corroseal prior to raptor. Rust should be converted before covering up fully. There is some inhibitors with raptor liner though.

Looks like a great shop to have work done at, good atmosphere and spot on workmanship.

Looks awesome, hopefully I can do this to my 67 Camaro in the near future. Thankfully, I only need one floor pan. Pass side. Keep it up with the video updates! 👍🏻

Yes, we definitely used seam sealer. I think I may have mentioned that in the video, but can’t remember.

Bottom of the car came out nice! wondering why you still have the brake booster and master cylinder hanging on the firewall?

Hi Pat, they were still on the firewall in this video, but you will see on the following videos that they have been removed when the firewall was prep'd and painted.

Why you didnt have used any primer at first?
@digitalpizza1
@digitalpizza1 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Cafe, this product is self etching and has natural rust inhibitors. So there was no need for primer. Thanks Cafe

Hi Ronnie, I have about $16,000.00 in the Paint & Bodywork. But that is because I did a lot of the work myself along with paying my guys and materials etc. This job would probably cost 20-25,000 (or less) given a car with the same scope of work. This car was relatively rust free, but a rusty car could be more depending on the condition. And remember, this really is a top quality, show quality paint job. As I mentioned in the video, it took us 4 days just to cut and polish the car. Regarding the sand blasting, I try not to sand blast if there is relatively little rust. Sand blasting burnishes the metal which I don't like the idea of that on 50 plus year old metal. The undercarraige of this car had just a light rust "film" on it and brushed off pretty easily. So we brushed off as much as we could, then shot it with a rust inhibitor then coated it as shown in the video, which in it self is an inhibitor. It turned out beautiful. All of this is just my opinion and I am sure everyone does what they think is best for them. There really are different schools of thought and are all good. Thanks Ronnie Pete

You really should have sandblasted the bottom of that car. with the remainder rust that is there you will seal it in and it will fester until you will have to do another restoration.

Hi Erik, The rust really was a very superficial surface rust that you could almost rub off with your finger which looked much worse in the video. Plus, the coating that we used is a rust neutralizer and inhibitor. So I am sure its going to be fine. I agree with you when it comes to more serious rust which is why we cut the bad areas out and patched them. That rust in the cut out areas was generated from the inside of the car from leaks and standing water under the carpet. Overall, the bottom of the car was in really good condition with most of the original blue over spray showing. Even the areas we cut out had blue over spray showing on the bottom side.

Why wasn't the pinion snubbed removed ? They're less than $20.

Hi Harald, I actually fully inspected it and it looked like brand new. No cracking, dryrott or dents. My guess is that it had been replaced recently.

what was the estimate for bodywork and paint?
@digitalpizza1

When it’s all said and done, I will have about 20K in in the bodywork and paint. I will be posting updated videos today and tomorrow on the final bodywork and paint. The car is going into the paint booth tomorrow, so watch for those videos 😎

Sad that you're not media blasting at least the underside.... I've done what you doing underneath it doesn't last ... Sorry for the bad news.
@digitalpizza1
@digitalpizza1 4 жыл бұрын
Personally, I do not like how media blasting leaves the surface of the metal. This was very minor surface rust that we got 95% of it off. Then we treated it with a rust inhibitor, and the material that was sprayed on is rust resistant. So I am sure its going to be fine especially since this car will never be driven in the rain and will be kept inside a controlled environment.

Your painter is wearing a dust mask designed to keep out dust, dirt etc, NOT organic vapor like the coating he is spraying.

That’s his choice, the body shop is not my business. I agree , I would have protected myself better, but that is why I don’t do bodywork.

Body work underneath the car could be done a lot better! Kind of messy 👎
@digitalpizza1

The car has original undercoating that was left in place. It is very difficult to clean all that off plus that fact that there are spliced in floor patches, all which add to the difficulty. The undercarriage of this car looks great for a 50 year old car
