Why is Dimash so attractive? Voice? The manner of performance? Appearance? Technicality? Academicism? Tenderness? Humanity? Grace? Warmth? Divine spark? Cosmic mystery? Youth? Who can answer? Probably all together. He is a miracle.

Dimash came back to ‘Singer” in China in 2018 as a special guest and sang “Hello”, after having competed on the program in 2017. The “official story” is that the program did not get permission from Lionel Ritchie to use his song and Dimash was sent a cease and desist letter to never perform it again. Something similar happened with the Russian singer Vitas and the song Opera 2, although they supposedly asked for permission after the fact. I said that is the “official version.” But is not hard to see why neither singer would ever want him singing their signature songs again. He Dimashified them and made them far more spectacular than they ever were originally. Dimash’s performances both have millions of views, are loved by the Dears,and will live forever on KZfaq in spite of their mean spiritedness…

The original "Hello" by Lionel Ritchie was one of my favorite songs from the 80s. Dimash "Dimashified" it and gave it a Kazakh spin and flavoring. Very unique. But then again. Dimash is very unique. The program host commented that Dimash took the time and effort to learn how to say "I love you" in Chinese, so he can substitute the English I love you with the Chinese I love you to show and express his heartfelt appreciation and love to the Chinese fans and audience. This was a guest performance on Singer 2018 - the year after he competed on the show. Like many others who discovered Dimash on Singer 2017, and also watched the vocal coach and other reactions to him, I watched people reacting to Singer 2018 afterwards, and there were some performers from that year worth checking out. A couple of them shown in the backstage shots of this video were Hua Chenyu, who had several good performances that year (try "Nunchucks"), and Tengri with his song "Heaven". Also that year was Filipina singer KZ Tandingan, who's unique cover of "Rolling In The Deep" won Episode 5.
