Great to see another vid from you - I really enjoy watching how you tackle things, including upsets!. You are full of plain common sense and make it look easy - the mark of a good woodworker. Can't wait for Part 2.

Since I am from the other side of the world and things here are upside down from you I watched part two first. Still looks good. Right side up or upside down, your table came out on top. Outstanding result. thank you for sharing.

Of course, I have never made a mistake like that! LOL! I won't share the words I have used when such "errors" are discovered. That wood reminds me of Ipe. Maybe from the same family. Really plays havoc on the tools. Great video! Thanks Vic!

Nice one Vic, that hardwood cut nicely and I didnt expect that. When I built houses in the early 70's the whole frame of the house was all hardwood from the region and was cut to size with a big old 9 1/4 Makita, nothing else would have the grunt. Brought back a few memories there for me mate, nice work so far. cheers.

Thanks mate. The 9 1/4 Makita brings back memories, it was the first circular saw i ever had

Great job mate. Good idea to set up a layout jig for glue up. It is so much easier than fussing around measuring corner to corner hoping to get both legs the same. 👍

Agree mate. There's nothing else you can say about old aussie hardwoods (other than they're hard AF and give the worst needle splinters, but its worth it)

Mate, how good is the colour of good old Aussie timber! 👌🏽 Nice save on the wrong angled mortice cuts. 👍🏽 Looking forward to part 2. I wish someone would give my legs an upgrade! 😂

Great use of jigs Vic. I confess I have cut mortices in the wrong side/ place and have done exactly as you have.. Fill and re cut. The old hardwood timber is a killer on the tools, although people are always asking me to use it, ok Customer gets what they want. I don't think I ever come away without half a dozen splinters from working with the stuff. Looking forward to the top build
@DownUnderWoodWorks

Oh mate, the splinters are the worst but its definitely beautiful timber

Awesome video love the creative use of the router to make the mortise joint will definitely use a similar technique for a table I’m making. Much more economical and creative than spending more than $1000 USD to get a festool domino which does the same thing

Nice Vic, looking good. I just started my mitre station today by cutting my legs 81mm short in a brain fart of a first step so good to see these silly errors are not exclusive 😂. Also great to use up some of the stockpile!
@DownUnderWoodWorks
@DownUnderWoodWorks 4 жыл бұрын
Haha, join the club mate. 81mm is a very specific measurement. How did that happen?
@FixitFingers
@FixitFingers 4 жыл бұрын
@@DownUnderWoodWorks it should have been 19mm to allow for the MDF top... Somehow 900 - 19 = 81 off 😅

Your Channel was recommended by Gary Podger over in Brisbane. Paul Carlson of the Small Workshop Guy Channel had Gary on for a tour of his shop this week. I live in the Northeast US. I've never seen a plunge router like the one you use. What make and model is that? I like the way it plunges into the wood. Glad I found your channel.

what blades do you have of your thicknesser? i got a dewalt with a factory head and it does not handle most hardwoods.
@DownUnderWoodWorks

Hi Mathew, the thicknesser has a segmented head www.machineryhouse.com.au/W815. Its like a helical head but with less cutters. Sherwood have a true helical head thicknesser now www.timbecon.com.au/sherwood-13in-deluxe-thicknesser-with-helical-spiral-head
