It's challenging working under the dash with so little room. Great effort.

It gets harder and harder every year I get older and older! Thanks for watching!

Tom, one of your most relatable videos! Easier on a 308 but still those lever assemblies are classic Rube Goldberg style. Didn't know about the diamond shaped bend at the end. Cool.

I don't know if Ferrari was still putting the diamond shaped ends on 308s, but I know it was done on the cars in the 60s, and since this Dino is so original, they were still doing it in the early 70s. I'm sure there are 308 experts that can confirm this with original unrestored cars, but I'm as well versed on 308s. Good luck with your 308 and thanks for watching.

Yep had plenty of seized cables on old classics, they just never get oiled 🤪
@tomyangnet3 ай бұрын
I'm sure they weren't greased when they were new, so with a new cable and grease, these cables should be good to go! Thanks for watching.

@@tomyangnet I found 18 gauge solid bailing wire was the largest that would go in my OEM sheath. I did not notice the end triangle angle - Thank you for the keen eye Bicycle guys have some of the BEST lubricants ever made for their hobby , great in these cables

Reporting on a road trip he’d taken in a Dino Peter Egan once wrote the heater was as effective as a hamster blowing through a straw. 😂

What's crazy is of the three vents on the dash, the center one is the only vent for A/C! Thanks for watching.

@@tomyangnet They are so quirky how can anyone not love Italian cars? I think the satisfaction one derives from keeping them on the road comes largely from the fact that robust engines aside they were never built to last. Keeping one functional and pristine is quite challenging thus rewarding. That most are quite attractive helps too. Hope your back feels better.

Tom, beautiful work as always. Where did you order the replacement cable from? I need to do this job to my 308. Some people on F chat recommended welding wire but I think there has to be a better option.
@tomyangnet3 ай бұрын
I would wouldn't recommend welding wire as it was made for a completely different purpose and may not have the tensile strength of the correct wire for this application. I would get "piano wire" which is made to be under tension. Here's my order from Amazon: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002A4O4D8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 The 0.045" diameter fits the cable sheathing and the control lever anchors. Thanks for watching.

@@tomyangnet thanks! This really helps. I’ll order this for sure. The cables ares make next project this summer.

@@tomyangnet lol will do! Hopefully it won’t be as bad as when I replaced all the heater hoses up front. That was awful with the brake booster in place.

Great work - but that cable rust is ugly. Completely neglected and HALF the job is cleaning 50 year accumulation, pivots, and paths. Also, look at all the wear on the detente points from that dirt grit grinding on it. SMH. I use light oil to pack the new heater valve pivot end rods. The original valves are now pushing $500 but what else are you ginna use that fits. A light oil coating helps it last just a little longer . I hate to say this but..... changing that heater valve is such a rotten task that I find it is much easier to remove the whole heat exchanger box/ brake fluid reservoir assembly along with the valve still on it. No kidding.... otherwise you're working upside down, OVERr the edge of the car and almost torquing with no mechanical advantage. The 3 things I find that cause extra, unwanted heat in the Dino cabin 1) Stuck heater valve, 2) Vent flappers do not shut off properly , 3) Pedal Box panel seal is missing

Hi Scott, All Vintage Ferrari cable operated heater control valve don't do a good job at turning off the heat completely, and when I put this car back together and find heat coming from the heater core, I'm thinking of hiding a secret ball valve to cut off the heat permanently for summer driving. My only hesitation is not opening the valve every once in a while to circulate some fresh coolant through the heater core to limit corrosion from stagnant coolant. The original control cables didn't have any grease or oil in the sheathing, so any lubrication will make a world a difference!

@@tomyangnet Superb point on the Dino cooling system. There are so many different metals touching coolant in a Dino that flushing is THE MOST important maintenance task on my Dino. It has almost been 2 years and time to do a Heater circuit flush on 08492. Stay tuned! Great Idea of having a shut off valve. I have one that is a winter turn-off valve from a Ferrari 330 that I intended to install just before the heater valve at the tunnel hose "T" but have'nt gotten time to do it yet. Ball valves are far superior sealing and I 'll bet 1/2 " standard could be fitted right off the tunnel hose "T"
@tomyangnet3 ай бұрын
@@clubdinousa8700 I think the hose from the t valve is slightly wider than 1/2 inch and 5/8th may be closer. Probably 50 and 75mm respectively. Or maybe 60mm? Who knows?

@@tomyangnet Another task I have not gotten to yet! LOL On the drive to Las Vegas last Nov I was pretty impressed at how the cabin stayed fairly "heat-free" after sorting out the control levers,sealing the vent flappers and making a new pedal box cover.
