Great lesson on the unseen work that it takes to maintain the great ones. Sounded fantastic!

These cars are labor intensive, but you guys benefit from seeing it happen! Thanks for watching.

Even when new and Bill Harrah’s C/4 was on the cover of Road & Track I’ve always liked them. Yes, the front bumper is unfortunate but when seen in person I think these cars have a presence cameras can’t capture. A gentleman’s Daytona with power steering! I wish I could’ve bought one when they were languishing at $65K. Still, it is remarkable that such an analog car is so tricky to work on. Your videos have been eye opening and appreciated. Thank you.

They only made about 500 of these cars, so there’s not a lot of information on how silly it is to work on one of them. I’ve had the pleasure of working on at least 4 or 5 of these cars through the years and know ahead of time what a PITA they’re going to be so I’m prepared. That doesn’t mean there still isn’t an inordinate amount of swearing while I work on a C/4! Thanks for watching!

The C4 does have the best sounding exhaust

It doesn't hurt to have 12 cylinders too! Thanks for watching.

Tom tks for the vid. BTW, which engine do those mounts go to, if not your 365GTC/4? A Daytona? Some other 365 series?

You're welcome. I think someone told me they were for a 400GT. Thanks for watching!

Hi Tom, I hope you don’t mind me asking you a question from the other side of the pond about my 365GT 2+2. She had a 12 month complete engine rebuild (under warranty thank God) after it blew six piston rings a few years ago. Only 2000 miles since and annual oil changes so everything should be in good shape. Anyway, the original driver’s manual says the electronic fuel pump (Autoflux) should be turned off as soon as the engine is running after starting, thus relying on the mechanical pump. But mine always runs really rough if I try to turn the Autoflux off, and runs fine when it’s switched back on. Is this your experience? It doesn’t seem to do any harm to the Autoflux as I’ve run it continuously for those 2000 miles.

It sounds like your mechanical pump is not keeping up with the fuel demand without the help from the electric fuel pump. This can be from a couple things from leaking seals inside the mechanical pump to fuel vaporizing in the fuel rail. In the States where they add alcohol to our fuel, I have found vapor locking issues which may be causing your mechanical pump issues. 365s should have a facet type fuel pump installed for the electric pump and can withstand constant running better than the earlier Fispa pumps, so you should be fine running it with the “A” switch on all the time. Good luck and enjoy the car!

@@tomyangnet Many thanks Tom. They add ethanol in the U.K. too. The standard mix is E10 (10% ethanol) which we are assured modern cars can handle. You can also buy E5 which is more expensive but recommended for classics so I use that. The triple Webbers were rebuilt during the engine rebuild and I’ve heard that the modern seals used during that process should remove some of the risks from E10 but of course the original fuel tank, fuel lines and seals will presumably still be in place and at risk? If it is leaking seals in the mechanical pump do you know if they are available and is the pump fairly accessible or is it buried away in the bowels of the engine bay? (Ive got an excellent young mechanic who looks after the car - he’s very little experience of older Ferraris but very resourceful and can work his way around most issues.) Thanks again for your help, much appreciated.

@@tomgill8267 The paper seals used to rebuild the carbs should not be affected by the ethanol, but it's the residue after the fuel evaporates that causes the problems inside the carbs. Either the alcohol or something else in modern fuels can also dissolve some older rubber, but it looks like modern Nitrile rubber seems to hold up OK. The rebuild kit for the mechanical pump should be using these seals. Maranello Parts in London should have the rebuild kit, but watch this video first: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q9qbas14qbylfGw.html

@@tomyangnet Very useful Tom, great demo of the whole process, thanks. I’ll also check the list of work done during the engine rebuild. I’d be surprised if they didn’t rebuild the fuel pump given the scale of the job, but worth checking.
