Hwasa wrote, and co-composed this song, after the passing of her uncle who was like a 2nd father to her (car crash).

The MV had like a $12 budget and that was probably for the bottle of wine. Her own clothes and apartment, borrowed camera, borrowed bike. The kid is the son of the cameraman who also helped Hwasa produce the song.

The MV was made with 20$ filmed basically just by hwasa and her producer friend. She wrote and composed the song about her uncle after he died. (He was like a dad to her). Styling were also done by Hwasa it’s a very personal project

Hwasa suffered and still suffers a lot of hate for not being the Korean standard, this woman is an icon, despite all the difficulties she managed to establish herself as one of the greatest singers of her generation, her vocals are unique, this woman is a true goddess. I love her so much. The way she uses her voice to convey emotion is wonderful. Across the content I've seen of her she seems alternately, elegantly confident , sassy, fun and self-deprecating then reserved. A layered human being. 🌸🌿

Roscoe, you would really enjoy watching Hwasa's appearances on the series Home Alone (aka I Live Alone). I will try to find a good compilation to recommend. Her first appearance is an absolute must see for anyone (including a surprise segment with all of Mamamoo), but there are so many other great ones too. (I personally love when she traveled back home to visit her family. Her with her dad and her Grandma is just ridiculously heartwarming in the most real way possible. (Info about how it shaped her career below, if that's a spoiler for you...) Back when Mamamoo was still a rookie group and Hwasa was getting so much hate for being different (which many people took offense to because they felt she was purposely going against Korean cultural standards) Hwasa made her first appearance on the show. At first people considered boycotting the show, but then they realized they could watch it and were sure it would give them tons of ammunition to keep hating and criticizing her. Much like the experience of the group performing on Immortal Songs, they were blindsided. Hwasa became even more famous and most of the general public went from being haters to fans because she is just such a genuine and lovable person. People who were appalled by her percieved image were endeared by her actual self. Basically, people went from saying, "she's not one of us" to saying "she could be my sister, or my neighbor, or my cousin, ...I would really like to be her friend." Then her popularity soared into the stratosphere, and people who were once joining in on hating her were instead now cheering for her to defy the haters and she became the champion for many who had been criticised in similar ways just for existing. The road she would travel to become the Queen of Queens had been paved.

Pretty sure the song remains in my top 5 of favorite kpop b-sides. Definitely top 10. Been a while since I watched the MV tho- The final quote has me recalling a prominent line from Buffy The Vampire Slayer: “The hardest thing in this world is to live in it.” As much as its context makes it all the more powerful, I don’t want to spoil it for anyone. 😁 Yes, I KNOW it’s been 20+ years(!!) but I have seen so many people -young and old- start watching Buffy in just the last 2 years and somehow managed to not get spoiled for 7 seasons worth of content. Sadly, my country has a high suicide rate. When I first read those words at the end of the video, it struck hard. I don't know how it relates to the song but a Moomoo may know? You may have seen on of the Mamamoo Guides on your Patreon Channel? Hwasa has an incredible story to tell. How she had the strength to carry on is a miracle. You have to remember, Mamamoo struggled to get recognition in their early days so as a group life was hard enough but the hatred Hwasa, received is a sad reflection on Korea. Even today, the country is extremely racist. Be Calm, is another example as to why for me, Hwasa, has the best solo material out of all the Mamamoo ladies.

Since you like Hwasa so much, I truly recommend that you watch her on the show I Live Alone. It's a show that shows how certain celebs live their daily lives. It's one of the reasons she's so popular in Korea now. Previously, Hwasa got a lot of hate (although it still exists now too) for her unusual beauty and behavior. The show opened the hearts of many and was a key contributer to her popularity now.
