My DiResta GIANT Razors… Now LIVE HERE: imakeny.com/products/diresta-...
This is the full build of my first canoe from www.bearmountainboats.com The Model is a Ranger 15'.
Tools used in this Build: jimmydiresta.com/canoe-tools-...
This is my first canoe build ever, I learned lots on this build. I genuinely "went to school" on this one! I am looking forward to my second build on the same mold and rectifying any mistakes I may have made on this one.
I started May 2018 and finished in Nov 2018 . by the time i finished it was too cold out to test drive it. i'll have to wait till spring!
Thank you to www.totalboat.com for the Varnish and Epoxy!
and www.shopbottools.com for the CNC
and / nataliepage for the music!
Voice over of this will be at my patreon
next week

@@mmercier0921 Michael, in the years before the miracle of epoxy canoes were built with canvas set in a coat of wet paint, then the exterior was also painted. As you've stated some of these canoes are well over 100 years of age and still water tight.

After watching the video advert i was still skeptical. But when i finally downloaded the plans kzfaq.infoUgkxZF0EMnrujZvqHhGkxiz559uIABJWR9TG i was very impressed. The whole plan was just as you said in the video. Thank you very much. I now have a large and valuable collection for my woodworks. This is great!

What a fantastic build. Brought back some nice memories when I got the chance to build a yatch. Which took 2 yrs to build. I enjoyed every minute building the yacht and got into the local papers. That's what you call a beautiful work of art. Loved watching the build of that beautiful canoe. absolutely stunning. 👍👍👍👍

I have to say... I've been waiting for some sort of boat building from Jimmy for quite some time, without even realizing it.. It's a culmination and amalgamation of woodworking skills (and clamp collecting) I've built a small plywood sailboat.. some sort of strip built boat has been on my mind for a while... Also I was thoroughly amused by the use of the wallpaper removal steamer for steaming the stem pieces ( just bought one a few months ago for removing wallpaper from a bathroom, now I have another use for it ) Thanks Jimmy, it's a fabulous bit of inspiration

This is awesome. Made me a little emotional. I built two canvas canoes in 1975. Junior high school shop class. That was a 1 semester option class my teacher requested I take 4 semesters. I built a wooden canoe the following year for my teacher. His brought back so much of that joy. I can relate to your love of creation. Also enjoy "making fun" I think the name is. I found that on Netflix a few days ago. Diresta on the pickup stuck in my head as I scrolled youtube.

Back in 1999-2000 I worked for Newfound Woodworking building woodstrip canoes, kayaks, and rowing boats. Beautiful and practical boats. On boats that will get dragged up on shores one can make a mixture of epoxy and powdered graphite and paint the bottom, this will give a wear resistant coating. When laminating those bow pieces we always used epoxy glue, it is 100% waterproof.

Step 1: Build a giant CNC... In all seriousness though, yet another example of the incredible craftsmanship that has made "DiResta" a brand. Should be viewed by every kid in every shop class everywhere. One note though: The plans left out one detail. The portage yoke should have a circular cutout in it. When positioned properly, that cutout goes on the back of your neck for one-man portage. A minor issue, no doubt, but I post this in the interest of maintaining tradition.

I didn't know wooden canoes could go without rib structures reinforcing the hull! Interesting build.

@@Bobbysmitreshop He used West System 105 Resin with 207 Special Clear Hardener, which is great to get a natural wood finish without blush. Jamestown Distributors sells it along with their in house Total Boat brand, we have used them both and got great results. Mr Diresta also used TotalBoat Gleam varnish. The cloth appears to be fiberglass cloth, not sure which weight. Some folks use different cloths like kevlar for the bottom, all kinds of fun new materials out there, carbon fiber as well.
