I've been taking my Minelab Excalibur II metal detector to all sorts of beach locations lately, to see what I can find but also to test the capabilities of the Excal in various environments. This time I went metal detecting around some sandy and muddy rocks at a beach creek in search of treasure, and came across a couple of unusual finds.

I know you can't take every piece of trash, debris, and CLOTHING you find on the beach, but I admire the things you do to keep those areas clean, or at least a bit cleaner than when you got there. Nobody can or should expect anything more. If more people would simply take their trash with them, then you could concentrate on your hunts and not feel obligated to become the beach sanitation department. Believe me when I say those small things you do take with you is greatly appreciated even by people like me that will never even visit those beaches. You are setting an outstanding example for thousands of others to see in your videos and that in itself is a great service. Thanks, Mish for what you do.

Thanks mate, my plan was to at least put the clothing somewhere out of the waterway (eg on a post or solid ground) if I couldn't carry it, but I ended up having the room to take it with me. There's still lots of iron junk, glass etc there but I'd like to think I made a small difference. Cheers :)

Nice video Mish. Dirty? Never a consideration so long as I don't take my dirt to bed! Trash removal is cool and is really about just leaving the beach cleaner and safer than we found it. A bucket full of trash also gives a good impression, I think, to the committees in the carpark who have all the advice about what can be found where.😂 Your video grabs of nature are little treasures too! Thanks for the video interesting place to search Minelab use to make a 6” coil for the sovereign which is very useful and mine got a lot of use but eventually it stopped working and I couldn’t get a replacement.Yes like you said the nox with a 6” coil would be a good option .When I search areas like that I always wear enclosed foot wear (obviously with no socks!!!!) and they do get waterlogged but some really nasty bugs exist in that environment and the slightest scratch can let them in leading to a unpleasant infection..I read an article once that said the harmonics on those detectors have up to 40 variations which is a bit like the nox 50 tones and minelab have had a lot of experience with tones . Thanks Brian, on this day I had an urge to wear the flip-flops/thongs, it was the first nice weather we'd had in weeks and my usual dive boots or aqua shoes weren't going to suffice, I had to go with the traditional Australian attire. 😂 I did once try to mimic the Excal with the nox, using 50 tones, a threshold hum and a low recovery speed... it drove me nuts, it just doesn't sound as pleasant lol. Cheers mate!

@@DirtFishMish Thanks for replying yes from time to time I give 50 tones a go but I just can't get it to work for me and settle for 5 tones. It could be that some people are tone sensitive like good musicians and it works for them But not for me I will keep trying from time to time 🙉

Nice little hunt Mish. Places like that are usually never hunted, because of all rock and mud. You have to think of the spots that nobody would think to hunt. If you hunt at a park that you know has yielded good finds and gets hunted frequently, try hunting the perimeter of the park. Everyone likes to head toward the center, so your chances of finding some good targets are less. When I hunt an old permission, I usually start at the curb. I have found some nice silver coins and rings in the curbs. Cheers. _/😉👍

Hi Mish :) You was so close to the coffee, that you could here a kettle boiling :D the weather looked perfect and tranquil i reckon the water was nice and warm as well,, That watch face looked like it had been there quite a while have you been able to find out more into its provenance at all? I couldn’t find much on the watch, i thin it said ‘Donat’ and I did find a French (IIRC) watchmaker called Donat Fer, but I think this may have been produced afterwards. Cheers mate 😁

The black sand smells even worse than you’d think Phil, lots of concentrated sulphur going on in there! Did you see my recent dive with the Excal? I have taken it underwater again since then but didn’t have any luck, still learning my techniques so I’ll wait until I’ve got better content for a video there. Cheers mate.

I struggle to make the good tides most days, so I get resourceful and have backup locations that will work for any tide (places where I hunt rocks or high tide lines etc). 😁

Yep, that's a major reason in me wanting to keep using the nox on mostly dry hunts, the cables drive me insane lol. Handy in the water though, since it helps keep the detector by your side. Cheers!!

question how good is the minelab at general metal detecting. i like the idea of an underwater detector but i also want one i can use out of water for gold sniping.

Hi there Mike! The Excal has been wonderful in the water as the immersion negates their weight to a degree - I would find it a little too bulky and not featured enough (in terms of specific target discrimination) for land digs, and the coil is hard-wired so you can’t swap out to a larger or smaller coil. On the other hand, the Equinox is rated as waterproof to 10ft/3M in the water but is not as robust as the Excal - Minelab are very good with any warranty issues though. I’ve personally never had any water ingress issues on both my Equinoxes. Cheers!

Thanks mate, and in response to your question... it's not. This was filmed very early on after picking up the machine, I needed practice to learn the tones and this was my only opportunity for the day as the water wasn't suitable for wading or diving. Definitely too heavy for this scenario unless I considered a hip mount kit :) Cheers!

They’re known as ‘potentiometer knobs’ and I got those ones through Amazon, heaps of different places to find them though 😊 you need them with a 1/4” (6.4mm) inner diameter, these ones had brass set screws and inners as well instead of the stock plastic ones. Cheers!

G'day John, mmm definitely too early to tell on that one I'm afraid! I'm less picky with Excal targets (nox target information can make it tempting to skip some), so I'm probably digging more and thus will ultimately bring more home. The 'nox is great for when there's a specific goal in mind. Cheers!

'Ello there Mate. Those were quite the unusual finds. The bits of cloth were probably just evidence in someone's murder or someone who drowned. After all it is Halloween. Wait...do folks celebrate Halloween or All Hallows Eve Down Under? It would make my story more intriguing if you did. As for the "burner top" I could have sworn that it was actually a pressure-regulated fuel filtration pan found on a NASA Terrier-Orion rocket. Well either that or a piece you can put on the floor to stabilize a wobbly table. You be the judge. Regardless one thing is certain: that you are likely envied by some people who fish for the number of sinkers that you find. And don't worry. Coffee will find you. Cheers!

Hello from Tennessee USA. It wouldn’t be any fun if you didn’t get good and dirty. My wife takes one look at me and she knows exactly what I’ve been doing. You’ve been detecting again haven’t you. Make sure you wash your clothes separately from everything else. At least you have coffee money. Keep making the videos and I’ll keep watching. Be safe and have fun.

Mish , you go girl ! A girl that doesn't mind getting yuck on her is my kind of girl. It washes off. Some coins and sinkers , a nice day , what's not to like. Now for a nice nap and your good to go girl !

Hi there, it’s stagnant sand that has been there a long time and has organic material breaking down in that layer, so there’s also a sulfur smell (thank goodness you can’t tell that on camera!). Messy, but a good chance that targets haven’t moved away from the area if that layer is present. Cheers!
