She's done amazingly. Just started jumping into back of car again too. I am still surprised at how quick muscle wastage happens and how long it takes to put it back on.

For the algae in the water bottle, try covering them in foil or anything opaque (even paint). That should stop it.

It’s hard keeping animals some days - you just get those times where you want to give up because of those disasters but you’ll bounce back

Hi. Thanks for this informative vid. I'm sorry to know of your setbacks, as you know these things happen with livestock, let's hope that the vaccines work and things improve. Sending positive vibes. Best. Johnny. North West England.

yeah i was looking up the way rhd is spread and its airborne and with insects. i had a couple rabbits die a while ago and i have since decided that my rabbits can stay inside. Sorry for your loss Geoff. I have two new rabbits after having none for over a year as it takes a long time to go. i have a shed i was thinking of putting them in but still...if the infected insect gets in and bites my bunnies they will both be gone. I hope Lira and the rest of you adults will be fine.

Thank you. I knew we had myxi ... I was used to seeing the poor rabbits as a kid with it. And there's such a wild rabbit population I think it'll be impossible to totally safeguard them. Glad you've got your rabbits back - I think vaccinating adults is definitely the way forward.

I put a rabbit proof boundary fence around mine. This needs to be around 4 metres from the pens.

What a horrible livestock day! Tuned in to cheer myself up after having to have my Border Terrier’s eye enucleated today, but see your day’s been just as grim!😟 Hope the vaccines keep the bunnies protected - hopefully they will, as manufacturers err on side of caution when saying how long they’ll last for... On a silkie note , any tips for a baggage that’s now been brooding 6 weeks? Have tried cold bath, broody jail ...
@BrimwoodFarm
@BrimwoodFarm 2 жыл бұрын
It seems to come in waves. So about your terrier, too! :( Silkies are sooo tough to break. Often I end up just giving in ... I know that's not much help. As the weather now starts to cool, hopefully it might break the cycle a bit.

Black duck tape around the bottle leaving a strip down the length uncovered so you can check the water level. I havent tried it yet as ours are in the shade so doesnt get as bad as quick but I am reliably informed it works

Geoff contact the British Rabbit Council, they should be able to advise you how to vaccinate cost effectively. I don’t live anywhere near wild rabbits so I don’t bother with vaccinations + I only have a couple, but friends of mine with large rabbitries vaccinate all of their stock and do so relatively cheaply. I remember a friend telling me it costs about £3 per rabbit or so. I think what a few of my friends do is buy a bottle and split the cost up.

Don't give up with the buns , I got hit with it last year and lost a whole litter . I kept on going with my rabbits (all my parents are vaccinated) and this year had two big healthy litters.
@BrimwoodFarm

Thats good to hear! Do you booster all your parents? I need to get mine done again.

Like many boosters. I gave up giving my cat a booster after year 3 as it simply wasn't required ... he lived until 21. The only reason I continue with my dog boosters is that it's required for insurance. So far the adult buns are okay. :D

I get my adults done once a year , costs around £70. I sell my youngsters which covers the cost of the parent vaccines and covers my feed costs etc so that's how I balance that one

I feel your loss with the rabbits, that's why I did not go for the colony approach on our small farm, that way it limited contact, not sure what else you can do other than what your doing other than mabey raising hutches further of the ground to possibly limit contact with wild rabbits ??.
@BrimwoodFarm

I'd love to do a colony system but like you, I'm wary because of the disease exposure here in the UK.

Awful virus, my rabbitry contracted it in August and in 8 days 17 rabbits were dead, mainly babies 4weeks up to 10 and does who had over lapped on their vaccine as they were in kit. I’m in Suffolk too (Newmarket)
